A picture has appeared under my bed. Neither me or DH think it's ours. Wtf?

We're moving house. DH said to me, what do you want to do with the pictures under the bed?
I had no idea what he was on about. I never put pictures under the bed.

Sure enough, 7am this morning he drags out two dusty old frames from under the bed. I've never seen them in my life. One of them had a charcoal drawing of a woman called Rachel.
I've never clapped eyes on it before.

DH says they aren't his. He thinks I've lost my marbles and have a shit memory.

But I swear I've never seen them before. The picture was made in '92. I was 10.

How the fuck did they get there?!

When I moved in 5 years ago there were no pictures here. No other adults have stayed here and I know he kids wouldn't come up with massive frames with glass and a picture of a naked woman.

How did this happen?!

Not that accurate in my experience.

You’ve posted a fair few threads from here over there yourself (two in the last 24 hours alone) - why, if your view is that it’s ‘not that accurate’? Confused

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 13:42

This is the conversation that I had with my mum this morning.

Unless I'm trolling my mum as well, then I think it shows that I'm not such a sad bastard that I would find a random persons drawing and claim it to be under my bed (which is so ridiculous it's funny).

Anyway, as much as I love trying to prove that my mundane life isn't bullshit, I've got a fuck load of packing to do because we're moving.
So I'm off, because this keeps stalling me.

Thanks for the LOL's I'm a bit gutted I won't find out.
I only messaged one John in the end. He hasn't read it.

Anyone else squirming, wondering how often OP cleans under the bed?

If you don't clean under your bed you may find a treasure under it one day ;)

@LoseLooseLucy Excuse my ignorance, but what is the reddit sub?

@WTFthatsweird happy packing - let us know if you find anything else, esp if its the missing picture from the other frame!

1forAll74 · 14/07/2019 14:43

Take the picture to Antiques road show, they might uncover some secrets about Rachael and the artist, and tell you that the picture is worth £3000.

HettySunshine · 14/07/2019 14:44

That pictures part of a series called Rachel at Rest. I've got a couple of the other prints from it.

you're an active member of a reddit thread you don't feel "is very accurate" ? come off it.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 14/07/2019 14:58

I had shit go missing and stuff mysteriously moved about in one house when I was much younger. We believe it was a previous tenant who hadn't handed their keys back and LL hadn't bothered changing the locks. That's why in every new property I move into I change the locks myself. LL and/or agents do not need a copy no matter what it says in the tenancy agreement. Tenants legal rights beat tenancy contracts every time.
If you're moving to another rental, get the locks changed ASAP. Just remember to replace them with the original ones when you leave.

Fluffybread · 14/07/2019 15:09

@callmeadoctor but aren't they by a Rachel rather than of a Rachel?

Maybe her male pictures are of John Lynton! Grin

Choice4567 · 14/07/2019 15:10

Please let us know if John replies!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/07/2019 15:11

This happened sort of to me once. I’m a bit scared to tell because it freaked me out at the time.

At work we had a puddle on the bathroom floor like a leak, although it was warm water. Nothing obvious as to where it came from. Wiped it up etc. (Not wee before anyone says). Then a weird religious picture appeared in the middle of the room, like a print, but not in a frame. It freaked me out.

Juells · 14/07/2019 15:12

callmeadoctor so why is it signed by someone else?

Soola · 14/07/2019 15:22

@callmeadoctor none of the drawings in your link look anything like the op’s one which was drawn by John Lynton in 1992.

SavoyCabbage · 14/07/2019 15:25

So your theory is that a New York based artist has drawn a rubbish picture that is not anything like she’s ever drawn before and signed it ‘John Lynton’ and then stashed it under a bed in Brighton?

yourestandingonmyneck · 14/07/2019 15:42

Thanks @Soola 👍

I don't use reddit though so I'm none the wiser really Grin

SkydivingKittyCat · 14/07/2019 16:02

Rachel looks very phallic

Soola · 14/07/2019 16:03

@yourestandingonmyneck it’s just bitching really, nothing constructive! Grin

Of course it's not accurate. My bloody thread is on there!

And yes I post on there - doesn't mean I'm correct either!

Thank you for all the drawings - they definitely helped! I thought I could see a face originally which confused me but it being a back view makes much more sense.

SummerHouse · 14/07/2019 17:09

@LillithsFamiliar oh god. I too see the face Confused

This is very resonant of the Reddit threads about homeowners discovering crawl spaces.
