A picture has appeared under my bed. Neither me or DH think it's ours. Wtf?

We're moving house. DH said to me, what do you want to do with the pictures under the bed?
I had no idea what he was on about. I never put pictures under the bed.

Sure enough, 7am this morning he drags out two dusty old frames from under the bed. I've never seen them in my life. One of them had a charcoal drawing of a woman called Rachel.
I've never clapped eyes on it before.

DH says they aren't his. He thinks I've lost my marbles and have a shit memory.

But I swear I've never seen them before. The picture was made in '92. I was 10.

How the fuck did they get there?!

When I moved in 5 years ago there were no pictures here. No other adults have stayed here and I know he kids wouldn't come up with massive frames with glass and a picture of a naked woman.

How did this happen?!

Have you any work people in, Maybe work
Done in the loft and the workman moved them. Often past tenants leave and forget things in the loft x

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 18:50

You've taken the frames and picture to the tip?

I'd go and check under your bed again if I were you and then set up a camera to record from now on Grin

MusterMark · 14/07/2019 18:54

I actually knew a Rachel who was a life model in Sussex back in the early 90s, I wonder if it's the same person.

Soola · 14/07/2019 18:59

@MusterMark can’t you tell from the amazing likeness in the picture?Grin

Soola · 14/07/2019 19:00

@ohapples she’s already said she doesn’t have a loft.

Yabbers · 14/07/2019 19:16

If you don't clean under your bed you may find a treasure under it one day ;)
Yes but apparently you go mad and don’t know what you put under there.

ineedanotherholiday · 14/07/2019 19:28

This is hilarious! I need to know where Rachel has come from.

llangennith · 14/07/2019 19:37

Rachel's gone to the tip this morning. If I find her under my bed again later I'm gonna scream.

Let us know @LoafofSellotape 👽

colourlessgreenidea · 14/07/2019 19:40

This is very resonant of the Reddit threads about homeowners discovering crawl spaces.

Ooooh, they sound good!

bobstersmum · 14/07/2019 19:41

Did you really take it to the tip?

Strugglingonagain · 14/07/2019 19:53

Ohhh I really wanted this to be solved.

PS what happened to the ironing board thread? I remember that one, was it ever solved?

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 20:14

Did you really take it to the tip?
Yeah DH did, you're the second person to question this and I honestly don't understand why anyone would think I made that bit up?
We're moving house and been to the dump
several times in the last week. And I sure as hell wasnt keeping hold of a dusty Rachel.

I actually thought between us, DH and I would have solved this by now and come up with an answer.
But then again, we haven't discussed it since this morning because we have been whipping up a storm trying to get this place in order.

Would you/DP have ordered something online and got sent those by accident and stashed them with the intent to return at some stage?

popehilarious · 14/07/2019 20:26

Many moons ago under a different name I also posted on here about something bizarre I'd found in my property! Never got to the bottom of it although someone else knew something about it but I don't think ever followed up.
Stuff like this drives me mad wondering what happened!

It does look like GSCE /art class 'study' rather than a professional. In fact my friend did some similar of me and my friend Rachel, it was way after 1992 though (and she isn't called John).

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 20:33

It definitely does look like GCSE art but the writing definitely doesn't look like that of a 15 year old.
And weirdly enough the writing does look kind of familiar to me. But then, my first thought when I saw the writing was that it looked like an older persons hand writing.
I know, that will deserve flaming, it's MN, but I just don't think it's a teens way of writing - in my experience. Yes I could be wring.

It’s an apport, isn’t it?

BusterGonad · 14/07/2019 20:44

I'm not sure why you'd take it to the tip with a 'live' mumsnet thread tbh!

Notopel · 14/07/2019 20:46

I think they’ve been there since the last time you changed/had a new bed. They’ll have been put there when you were stashing other stuff under the bed and as you’ve not disturbed it since, never noticed them.

How they got there? Possibly picked up with something else - anything stored elsewhere I.e a garage, someone else’s attic. Anything bought from a car boot sale etc and stashed under the bed?

OpenYourEyes · 14/07/2019 20:48

I could only see two people at first, the back one in stockings, so I am grateful to the people who re drew it more clearly.

M0reGinPlease · 14/07/2019 20:55

Kind of missing the point but you really need to clean under your bed more often.

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 20:58

Should I not have posted it on here then?

I posted it because it's a fricking mystery (which did initially freak me out but now I'm mildly tipsy and don't care 🍷)

I literally took a pic of it on its way out, there's no way I could keep hold of it for the sake of MN.

And the fact is, it has been a funny thread even if fuck all comes from it and I don't find out (I doubt I will) so why not post?

I've 'LOL'd a good few times. So worth it IMO.

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 20:59

Moreginplease I know. I'm very much an "out of sight out of mind" person.

You don't even want to think about the state of the floor under my washing machine. 🤢
I know it's hard to believe but the rest of our home is very clean an tidy!

SignOnTheWindow · 14/07/2019 21:36

Could they have been in the attic/a cupboard, moved at some point when a tradesperson was doing repairs/inspecting the property and shoved under the bed by said tradesperson who couldn't be bothered to put them back?

P.S. We had two shit portraits of 'tastefully' posed naked women, both done by men (now there's a surprise) and found both behind vintage posters in charity shop frames.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 15/07/2019 00:38

Very strange!

Lofari · 15/07/2019 00:59

Poor DH. Clearly tried his hand at art and is now denying all knowledge because we've all taken the piss out of poor old Rachel Grin
