A picture has appeared under my bed. Neither me or DH think it's ours. Wtf?

We're moving house. DH said to me, what do you want to do with the pictures under the bed?
I had no idea what he was on about. I never put pictures under the bed.

Sure enough, 7am this morning he drags out two dusty old frames from under the bed. I've never seen them in my life. One of them had a charcoal drawing of a woman called Rachel.
I've never clapped eyes on it before.

DH says they aren't his. He thinks I've lost my marbles and have a shit memory.

But I swear I've never seen them before. The picture was made in '92. I was 10.

How the fuck did they get there?!

When I moved in 5 years ago there were no pictures here. No other adults have stayed here and I know he kids wouldn't come up with massive frames with glass and a picture of a naked woman.

How did this happen?!

She’s up in the loft, Rachel that is.

supersop60 · 14/07/2019 09:31

Keep us updated, OP.

WantLifeToBeBetter · 14/07/2019 09:32

Can you take the paper out if the frame and see if there's anything written in the back or hidden between paper and frame?

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 09:32

No we live really far from family.

And if they turned up holding shitty photo frames asking to stash them under my bed I'd tell them to feck off.

You’ve made me smile. On a Sunday morning. Tinged with depression. Anxiety biting at my heels.

My guess is you thought the frame would come in useful for somewhere else. Stored it safely until you move. I think the Rachel picture is the red herring in all of this.

SummerHouse · 14/07/2019 09:34

I love your improved version. You are the next Banksy OP.

Soola · 14/07/2019 09:36

This is what he was aiming for.

And failed.

nolongersurprised · 14/07/2019 09:37

Is the woman in the picture getting older everyday?

That’s funny. I love that book.

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 09:39

I'm glad I made you smile.
Sorry to hear you're feeling shit. I've had depression, it's bollocks isn't it?

See the whole "bought them from a charity shop, stashed them and forgot about them."
Is exactly the sort of thing I would do. Which is why DH doesn't believe me that I didn't do it.
But on this occasion - it wasn't me. I wouldn't have wanted those frames or that glass in my home. I wouldn't have chosen them. And glass here is a massive no-no and I'm a weakling and wouldn't have been able to carry them (there was two) up to the flat.
On this occasion, as much as DH protests otherwise - it just wasn't me.

Even though it does sound like it.

And Rachel from the front...

JollyAndBright · 14/07/2019 09:39

@LillithsFamiliar

It’s a woman’s back with her arm bent up behind her head.

A picture has appeared under my bed. Neither me or DH think it's ours. Wtf?
BiscuitDrama · 14/07/2019 09:40

I’d Facebook/text all your friends and ask if any of them remember anything about it.

MoverOfPaper · 14/07/2019 09:41

You’ve been there for five years and have had three beds? That’s energetic! Good for you!

NannaNoodleman · 14/07/2019 09:41

Aaaahhhhhhh... I see her now! I've wasted too much time trying to work that picture out.

NannaNoodleman · 14/07/2019 09:42

5 years... 3 beds... and cleans under the bed each time she gets a new one. I'm embarrassed to confess that's far more than I clean under my bed!

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 09:43

Ha!!! The first one was a double. Seriously what was I thinking?!
The second was a second hand ikea one which used to loudly collapse under skinny DH in the middle of the night so we got rid.
The third is the current metal frame bed with no drawers or anywhere that could have stored frames.

I would love to know where these came from! How fascinating!

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 09:50

I've messaged my Mum and MIL. If they don't recognise it then I've no idea.

Orangeballon · 14/07/2019 09:52

Women don’t tend to buy drawings of nude women, it’s mainly a man thing, you are looking for a male owner.

AppropriateAdult · 14/07/2019 09:52

This is fascinating. But I can't believe you've chucked them out before you've solved the mystery! I was picturing a long drawn-out saga which ends with you returning the pictures to an ageing John Lynton while he tells you the story of his lost love Rachel and the terrible tragedy that befell her. Kind of Nicholas Sparks-esque; who would you like to play you in the movie?

llangennith · 14/07/2019 09:59

@JollyAndBright thank you. I really couldn't make out what it was! Not that much clearer now but it helped.

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2019 10:00

We had two cuddly toys appear under DS1's bed once (found them when we moved house, too). We still have them but I never bought them and no one has any idea at all where they came from or how they got there.

Not quite as spooky as naked Rachels.

TSSDNCOP · 14/07/2019 10:00

OP your version much improves the original Rachel.

I think you may have inadvertently found your calling. You could tour the galleries of the world highlighting the missing bits that've had viewers going “eh” for years.

Back to now though? Do you have a loft where Rachel could be being held? Do you smell woodsmoke in your dreams as she burns your rafters for more charcoal?

alittlebitdemented · 14/07/2019 10:01

@WTFthatsweird What part of the country are you in? Nothing too specific, obviously.

kateandme · 14/07/2019 10:02

have you googled the artist?
