A picture has appeared under my bed. Neither me or DH think it's ours. Wtf?

We're moving house. DH said to me, what do you want to do with the pictures under the bed?
I had no idea what he was on about. I never put pictures under the bed.

Sure enough, 7am this morning he drags out two dusty old frames from under the bed. I've never seen them in my life. One of them had a charcoal drawing of a woman called Rachel.
I've never clapped eyes on it before.

DH says they aren't his. He thinks I've lost my marbles and have a shit memory.

But I swear I've never seen them before. The picture was made in '92. I was 10.

How the fuck did they get there?!

When I moved in 5 years ago there were no pictures here. No other adults have stayed here and I know he kids wouldn't come up with massive frames with glass and a picture of a naked woman.

How did this happen?!

I second the suggestion that it's an apport. I'd be smudging the crap out of the whole place and salting the windowsills if I'm honest.

My DH and I found a half-used contraceptive pill packet under our bed once!! It was still in date but not mine - I wasn't on the pill and hadn't been for many years! My DH was as shocked as me and seemed deadly serious when he said he knew nothing about it but I did quiz him a few times afterwards about whether he'd been having an affair!
Never got to the bottom of it and that was 9 years ago! Still wonder about it sometimes...

I’m calling spam

Celticrose · 16/07/2019 00:09

@WTFthatsweird

Nothing to do with the thread but when I moved house I paid to have my oven cleaned. Brilliant idea and they also cleaned my washing machine as well as a freebie.

VenusTiger · 16/07/2019 00:12

@KiwiFuzz did you have grown up kids then? Using parents bed when you’re away?
They could’ve fallen out of a handbag.

KiwiFuzz · 16/07/2019 00:22

@VenusTiger No, no kids. We hadn't been married long. And the only female friend who'd ever come to stay in that house wasn't on the pill either. It was all very odd.

Vivianebrookskoviak · 16/07/2019 00:52

It's got to be the DHs, no other rational explanation. Drunken online purchase? Something to do with a friend of his? Something he's embarrassed about? I googled John Lynton artist and nothing came up, nothing on Ebay.

Could it be a hairy minge?

Op, I didn’t mean you! There was someone on here who made a frankly quite ridiculous statement that it’s only men who buy nude artwork!
This is going to be outting but I have a naked Klimt picture in my wall right next to me 😁

celticrose I did look! But it was £70 and we have absolutely no money at the moment.
That seemed quite expensive as well. I'd have considered it at £50....

The person who mentioned the inventory, I was asking the agency about that yesterday (trying to find out what the state of the oven was when I moved in because I really didn't want to put that much effort into it) so I shall get them to email me across the inventory.

However, we have switched rooms and moved bedroom furniture around countless times and I never saw them before.

They definitely appear to have turned up quite recently...

Are you staying the same age yet the picture is ageing?

jillybeanclevertips · 16/07/2019 06:46

ask your landlady. If the mystery remains and it very well could, I'd get them looked at by an art expert- could be a long lost Reubens, definately not a Laurie !!!
Keep us posted.

LittleKitty1985 · 16/07/2019 07:12

Am I the only one who can see the picture properly?
Rachel is wearing a hospital gown and sitting down and some weird naked man is strangling her from behind

This is what I see too

notaflyingmonkey · 16/07/2019 07:18

I'm a woman, went to art school where I did my fair share of life drawing. There's usually a load of you in a room with the model doing different poses for varying amounts of time. Some pretentious students would note the model's name on their drawing. I think that is far more likely to be a student than someone deciding to do a charcoal sketch of their paramour.

Why all this swearing?

@spencer007- the drawing has been taken to the dump.

You sound a little intense.

I would email the landlord & agent a photo saying ‘found this in the house. I assume it’s yours. Do you want it left here when we move?’ Hopefully their reply might help solve the mystery. Otherwise I’ve no idea what to suggest.

LoafofSellotape · 16/07/2019 09:22

spencer007 nice advert HmmConfused

Soola · 16/07/2019 09:24

@spencer007 Line the whole family up and tell them over the dinner table. Then look at their faces. The liar will be revealed. Its the only way. If you detect nothing then look your partner in the eye and confirm that you are burning them. In the park, in your garden, wherever you can. He is coming with you too. Plus say the Lords Prayer over them.

You forgot the bit about shining a torch in their eyes!

letsleepingbabieslie · 16/07/2019 09:32

Oh sorry OP, it’s mine. Didn’t think you’d mind me storing it there but I should have asked. Won’t happen again.
