Are cashews considered the junk food of the nut world?

I just overheard a woman & her boyfriend talking who were watching another woman feed some squirrels cashew nuts. She lent forwards & said 'What nuts are they?' & when she heard cashews, she said 'Oh, junk food' & she was perfectly serious! Is this something I don't know about? I guess it's one up from bread.. not sure squirrels would eat bread anyway. Hmm

Pine nuts are the most expensive, surely? Everyone I have them on my shopping list I see the price and think "I'm not paying that!" and cross them off it. Cashews are lovely, not junk food at all. Peanuts are cheap but raw unsalted peanuts are perfectly healthy, too. So, in conclusion, people are strange!

Pine nuts are insanely expensive because they're so labour intensive to harvest. It can only be done by hand, and they have to pick each individual nut from the cone. I watched a whole programme on it once....
