Are cashews considered the junk food of the nut world?

I just overheard a woman & her boyfriend talking who were watching another woman feed some squirrels cashew nuts. She lent forwards & said 'What nuts are they?' & when she heard cashews, she said 'Oh, junk food' & she was perfectly serious! Is this something I don't know about? I guess it's one up from bread.. not sure squirrels would eat bread anyway.

Nuts contain double the calories of chocolate (or thereabouts), yet, eating nuts regularly has been associated with weight loss. As they are very satisfying/filling?

Love all nuts. Apart from chocolate brazils, as the texture of the chocolate is always wrong

Another nut fact I must share: pine nuts from China can cause "pine mouth", so make sure you get the Italian ones!

Now I want some very specific chocolate covered macadamias that I had once 15 years ago.

I love all nuts, well except the hairy ones. Unfortunately I’m trying to lose weight so can no longer eat a giant bag handful, without checking their syns. Bastard tasty fatty nuts!

Also why the hell would you waste cashews on a squirrel?

I think a pistachio is my favourite nut. I think macadamias taste like some magic mushrooms I tried years ago (when they were legal to buy in Camden ) and I can’t get past that.

I’m also partial to a pecan.

Cashews are the best nuts. I would not waste them on squirrels either

I'd never share my cashews with a squirrel.
However, completely off on a tangent, I can confirm squirrels do eat bread. Every morning I chuck the left over toast from breakfast on to our lawn and a squirrel comes and eats it.
I rate pistachios as quite posh in the nut world.

Pine nuts are not in fact nuts. I can't remember what they are - seeds maybe - but they are perfectly safe for people with nut allergies.

I love that someone has written a blog post of the hierarchy of nuts. Obviously I agree with it and also am slightly disturbed that we actually have all those different kinds of nuts in the house. Clearly I bake too much.

Diverting further off course, I can confirm that ducks don't eat Cheerios.

Does everyone suck the pistachio shells?

Going further off topic, a while back a cheeky squirrel at one of our local parks nicked a Costa coffee someone had put down on a bench beside them, ran up a tree with it and drank the coffee.

To this day, whenever we go to that park, DD asks if we can buy a cup of coffee for the squirrel.

I bought pre shelled pistachio once. Such a bad move, they are not the sane without the de-shelling ritual.

I can see they wouldn't be nearly as good.

I heard that pecan nuts are bad for people with allergies? I don't mean nut allergies but they are suppose to trigger or exasperated other ones. Think I need to Google it.

They're highly unethical so maybe she meant that?

I love raw cashews.

Also someone once made a soup from cashews in their Thermomix style machine for me and it was divine.

Unfortunately that someone was my ex mother-in-law so no more of that soup for me.

Shiv I firmly believe the deshelling ritual is what makes them taste so good. You have to really work for it.

I believe there has been some research that shows that, although nuts are highly calorific, they are difficult to digest so many of the calories are passed out of the body unabsorbed. I may try and find the research tomorrow and come back to this thread. Oh and buttered Brazils are the dog's.
