My Nan had a dog called Toby, then he died and she got another dog called Toby 2 Kinobi.

IfItIsntYerManRobert · 11/07/2019 09:26

Maude that is Grin

Greyhound22 · 11/07/2019 09:27

Rory or Rufus.

We need photos. Immediately. If not sooner.

Floralnomad · 11/07/2019 09:30

I’d go for Leo or Arthur ( artie) , most small black fluffy dogs near me are called Teddy so don’t call him that . I don’t like Treacle . I know a standard poodle called Dave who is lovely . If I was getting a poodle today I’d call him Claude or Pierre .

Booboostwo · 11/07/2019 09:31

Treacle is very cute but doesn’t quite work as well with recall. A two syllable name gives you a slight edge with recall. Rory would work best shouted across a field.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 11/07/2019 09:31

Treacle for me love it!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 11/07/2019 09:55

Anything but Treacle!

Just imagine yourself shouting the name across the park - if you slightly cringe, it's not the right name (on a side note, a man in the park told me his rescue dog came with the name Pikey, which was swiftly changed for understandable reasons!

WifOfBif · 11/07/2019 10:01

Rufus!

Dowser · 11/07/2019 10:03

Arthur...my huge red self Persian cat was called Arthur.
He was like a small dog.
He was legend.

sallievp · 11/07/2019 10:16

Treacle definitely

Treacle does have two syllables. As do the rest of the names.

x2boys · 11/07/2019 10:19

I like Human names for Dogs , so all of them but Treacle imo.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/07/2019 10:25

Treacle doesn’t seem right to me for a male dog, I can’t explain why though. Possibly the Eastenders reference a PP mentioned.

How about Molasses instead 😄

JuneFromBethesda · 11/07/2019 10:29

I was reading a book last night in which one of the characters had a small dog called Bingo. That’s quite cute.

IncrediblySadToo · 11/07/2019 10:32

Treacle -I wouldn’t. I know some treacle is black but it’s not the colour I think of when I hear Treacle plus I’d feel like a complete tear shouting treacle treacle across the park

Rufus - it’s a too old fashioned typical dogs name overdone & dated

Not keen on Leo, but especially for a dog that’s nothing lookswise, like a lion

Rory is ok

So out of your list I guess I’d settle on Arthur, but

There are so many other options...

I like human names for dogs...

Claude
Colin
Dave
Bobby

Or

Sooty
But he’s going to be sooo cute you could get away with calling him Dustbin and everyone would still think iit was perfect

Can we please gave photos when you get him home!

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 11/07/2019 10:36

Growing up a lady near us had a black standard poodle called Ringo, he was so good and friendly.

emerencealwayshopeful · 11/07/2019 10:37

I have a black mini poodle.

In poodle groups there are lots of Teddy's, Bobby's and French-sounding first names. Like Claude or Pierre.

I like Treacle. Could live with Arthur. Don't really like your other choices.

flissfloss65 · 11/07/2019 10:37

You could do the classic mn of formal name and nickname! 😀 I’d go for Arthur but call him Arty.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 11/07/2019 10:42

Sorry, meant to say, from your list would choose Arthur.

tinkering · 11/07/2019 10:52

If DS chose treacle and he’s young enough to be upset if his name isn’t chosen, I’d go treacle — yes it is a bit embarrassing to yell across a park but when it’s your dog and you need him to recall the embarrassment will go swiftly out of the window I’m sure!

If not and you will feel a bit silly shouting treacle, then Rufus. It sounds like it fits him beautifully.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/07/2019 10:59

Rufus means red-haired, so slightly odd for a black coated dog!

Treacle just makes me think of Danny Dyer on EastEnders, I'm afraid; it's meant to be rhyming slang for a woman (treacle tart = sweetheart). I have no idea if that's genuine Cockney or one of Danny's own inventions...🤔

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/07/2019 11:00

Oh, and Rory means red-haired too.

Perhaps you need to get a Red Setter!

BananaBeforeBed · 11/07/2019 11:04

Rufus

BananaBeforeBed · 11/07/2019 11:05

Where I live there is a phrase Thick as Treacle.
