Just been burgled 😡😡

Woke about three hours ago to the sound of someone getting in my car- they fled but locked car as they left. Went downstairs to discover the bastards had drilled the back door lock, had a good look round downstairs and taken every spare key available from the pot we kept them in As well as taking my purse. I can’t get to work as I have no car keys and my work keys are in the car, have had police, emergency door lock people and breakdown truck (couldn’t move car to secure compound without making too much noise and maybe damaging the car ) and am now sitting in bed doing sudoku, every light in the house is on, just in case the bastards come back to finish the theft of my car !! I am beyond angry with myself for not using the house alarm I got fixed last week and for keeping so many keys in the same place and so easy to find 😡😡never thought it would happen to me . I’m such an idiot

No you’re not! The burglar is the idiot! So sorry this has happened to you, it must be very frightening. Is there anyone you can call to keep you company until morning? 💙

Turquoisetamborine · 10/07/2019 04:32

So sorry this is happening. Are you alone or with someone?

Kez200 · 10/07/2019 04:33

:(

HomeHell · 10/07/2019 04:36

God that's awful.
You are not stupid. You are in your own home.
So sorry this has happened.

Thump · 10/07/2019 04:36

Thank God you're safe - that's all that matters at the end of the day. Everything else can be salvaged in time.

Oh no. Hope you're ok, OP. Flowers

Blobby10 · 10/07/2019 06:20

Just knackered now and waiting for a civilised hour so I can get car keys sorted and house locks changed Sad

Frownette · 10/07/2019 07:10

That's horrible, sorry - have you got a hot drink and is there someone you know and trust you can phone just to hear a friendly voice?

Frownette · 10/07/2019 07:39

What time can you start cracking on with contacting everyone, 8am? Sounds silly but I've never understood burglars, it's the sheer brazenness and audacity of getting into someone else's home

RandomWok · 10/07/2019 07:41

Sending you a virtual hug. Some people are fucking cockwombles x

SimplySteveRedux · 10/07/2019 07:42

Didn't want to read and run. No advice, just wanted to say so very sorry and I hope you and your family are ok ThanksThanksThanks

SnowsInWater · 10/07/2019 07:44

How horrible, and such a pain getting everything sorted!

Grapeyes · 10/07/2019 07:45

We’ve been burgled, it’s a horrible feeling. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Your insurance company MAY cover the cost of replacement locks - definitely worth checking. Take Care.

Soola · 10/07/2019 07:51

Hope you’re ok and can get all the keys sorted out easily.

It’s going to play on your mind for a bit, that’s only natural, but don’t allow the burglar to dominate your thoughts permanently.

Unfortunately he got your purse, don’t let him take your mind.

Blobby10 · 10/07/2019 07:53

Thanks everyone. Locksmith on his way so the house will be secure. Just got to wait for car insurance claims line to open so I can sort that out. Running on caffeine at the moment - I'm sure the shock and exhaustion will kick in at some point. Right now I'm still really angry!! And also particularly annoyed that I've run out of milk Sad

OP posts:
Frownette · 10/07/2019 08:00

Oh, you haven't got your purse - can you get some milk from a neighbour?

You're going to be adrenalin fuelled today, it's not your average occurance. If it's any consolation they must have a very miserable little life

notaflyingmonkey · 10/07/2019 08:02

Bastards. I was once burgled while at home in bed. It was horrible.

None of this is down to you, you have nothing to feel stupid about.

Can you do a list of all the things to check are still there or have been taken, and a second list of all the things you need to replace/cancel eg bank cards, loyalty cards etc.

IncrediblySadToo · 10/07/2019 08:04

Ask the locksmith to pick up some milk in his way 🤣

Don’t blame yourself- its 1oo% down to the scrote that broke in!! Villainous little cretin. I hope they catch the wanker

Do use the alarm as it’s common for them to come back

At least he found the keys and went out to your car, he didn’t need to come upstairs to get what he was looking for so you were safe! (& that’s the main thing!)

Hopefully you’ve cN Elle’s all your bank cards etc already - their lines are usually 24/7

Be KIND to yourself! You’ve had a shock ☕️🍰🍫🌷

Papergirl1968 · 10/07/2019 08:36

Ex police staff here and we used to advise people to take their car keys upstairs with them at night. Then that changed to leave your car keys downstairs, so the thief doesn’t need to confront you and possibly hurt you.
My sister was burgled twice and it really shook her up.
I’m sorry you had to go through this. They’re the lowest of the low. Hope police catch the bastards.
Look after yourself. Flowers

Hollycatberry · 10/07/2019 08:58

Yep always leave keys downstairs on or at the top of the stairs so you don't end up in any confrontation. That's what the Police told me.
Ask your locksmith to fit anti snap locks to prevent the lock being drilled open again. Alot of doors have cheap locks in which can be easily broken so most need upgrading.

Consider some cctv. Mine has has motion detection and will trigger an alarm if somone steps on my drive at night. Early warning for me and hopefully a deterrent for any scumbag trying to steal. You can also buy little alarm devices to stick on your doors or window so if there is movement (i.e someone breaking the window) they will sound.

Blobby10 · 10/07/2019 12:34

Thanks for the good wishes everyone - I'm buzzing on no sleep and too much coffee! Forensics have been - thieves were wearing gloves but there were 4 other burglaries in town last night and 2 cars taken from a nearby village, all the same MO so obviously a gang. Cards cancelled, my car has gone to have its locks changed and new keys programmed/issued, new anti-snap locks on front and back doors, coats all hung back up from where they (quite neatly) checked the pockets for keys and now just waiting for police to take statement. Its shocking quite how many people this has happened to - what makes these people think they deserve to take what someone else has worked so hard for? I hope there is a special place in hell reserved for them !!

Birdrib · 10/07/2019 12:41

Where are you (roughly) based OP?

Same thing happened to my dsis last night.

Frownette · 10/07/2019 12:47

Actually thank God you were safe in bed - Sorry it's going to be a long day for you

Blobby10 · 10/07/2019 17:33

@Birdrib East Midlands - they were targeting several areas according to police who have been fab.

Couple of neighbours heard a trail bike earlier - apparently its usual for thieves to use them to scout the area for the cars they want, then another neighbour heard them running away after I banged on the window and they got into a car. Probably nothing will come of it - I suspect they are from an illegal travellers site which set up a couple of days ago and got raided by police yesterday
