I never thought I'd be the person who goes on holiday to the same place every year

But every year it comes to booking and look at loads of options and then think that it might not be as lovely as the place we usually go.

If you'd have asked me in my 20s I'd have been very disappointed in my 30-something-self.

We go to the same place for our Summer holidays, have been going to the same area for the past seventeen years.

We tend to go to other different places for short breaks throughout the year though.

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/07/2019 18:22

La Rochelle in an apartment is our easy holiday option.

Emmapeeler · 01/07/2019 18:35

I have turned into that person. We go to the same place in Wales each summer.

I also try and go somewhere new each year too. Problem is, everywhere I go somewhere new, I add it to my list of places to go back to every year so the list is getting quite long!

We’ve been to St Ives for May half term the last 4 years. Exams mean we won’t be able to do that week again for a while, but we’ll def be back at some point. It’s just lovely to me, my shoulders drop inches as soon as I arrive.

Burlea · 01/07/2019 19:23

For the last 10 years we have holidayed in Tenerife in November at the same place. But we always have a week somewhere in the UK, which is a Different place each time.

TwoPickle · 01/07/2019 19:29

Could I ask if this is Three Cliffs? We were looking there for next year

Offred2 · 01/07/2019 20:01

After spending my twenties exploring as many far flung places as possible we’ve definitely settled into a holiday rut since having kids (two weeks in same Mediterranean destination in summer, plus one centreparcs break per year).

Twenty something me world be horrified but as the children are a year older each year that is what makes each holiday new and different to me, if that makes sense. So although it’s the same Med destination experiencing it with a 8 & 5 year old is different to what it was like experiencing it with a 4 & 1 year old for example

pastaparadise · 01/07/2019 20:18

yep - we've also settled into a pattern. 4th trip to same lovely place in Cornwall this year. But as pp have said, also nice to try new places. This year wentvto mallorca in May and LOVED it.

Think our habits will sadly have to change though as ds1 starts school in sept and the costs of trips in the school hols may rule those places out 😔

Its partly wanting something guarenteed that you know works for your family, and partly as its such a faff finding somewhere new, with hours trawling through websites. I wonder if it was the era of travel agents doing everything still it wouldn't feel so daunting?

We go to Beitostølen (Norway) ever year for about a week in the summer. It is a big ski resort in winter and out of season it is much quieter, there are lots of great walks, and it is out relax and unwind place. In fact, I'm there at the moment. Beitostølen is only three hours drive from my home as well.

If anyone is interested in coming to Beitostølen, they have started running lots of activities here for children and families in the summer, so it might be worth a look if you want an outdoorsy holiday in a beautiful part of Norway.

@doyouthinktheysaurus thank you

When we were kids we went to the same Welsh beach every single year. It was nice, but very samey and usually rained.

I don't want to do that.

Our main holidays for last 12years have been to different places. I've realised I love Greece and actually going back to the same Island went to a couple years ago - but different resort and different type of holiday! A big part of the holiday is exploring. We chill but don't really lie in the beach or by the pool much and always self catering - so like new things to see, new restaurants or are making our own food anyway.

I also love the holiday research! I'll spend a ridiculous number of days on forums, websites, Google Street View checking places out.

However, we also like camping in the UK and will happily go back to the same campsites again if they have what we want. But then that's our time for slobbing out reading a book, having BBQs, letting DS run off and not us leaving the campsite type trip so doesn't really matter where we are!

I spent every summer vacation on Martha's Vineyard when I was a child. We go back every summer with our children even though I now live in the U.K.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 02/07/2019 17:39

I love Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket - very jealous that you go there every year!

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 02/07/2019 17:57

We have booked the same hotel in Crete that we went to last month for next year,in fact i booked it while we were still there! The food was the best we'd ever had on holiday and the people were lovely as was the ambience.

GenderApostate19 · 02/07/2019 19:13

We are just back from Rhodes and will definitely be going back. We stayed in Rhodes town and loved it, unfortunately it was way too hot to do the exploring we usually do, save for the harbour and the fabulous Medieval walled Old town at night when it was a bearable 28 degrees!

Titsywoo · 02/07/2019 19:18

We went camping to the same place for many years because it was the best campsite I had found for kids and they loved it. Now centre Parcs is becoming our new thing. We do try to do an extra holiday each year going somewhere new to keep me happy but we can't always afford it. I just tend to go where the kids will definitely enjoy themselves now and currently it's centre Parcs with their friends!

kazza446 · 02/07/2019 19:30

Yep! Me too! I was seriously depressed after having my first child and having to do a short haul. We ended up in Puerto pollenca as it was where my dh spent all his family holidays. It’s now become our family holiday place too. I absolutely love it, mainly because of the relaxed atmosphere, great beaches and all the memories we have previously made there. Kids love it too. My little happy place!

zafferana · 02/07/2019 19:46

We've done the same ski resort/hotel/week twice now, but the second time I was bored and it wasn't as good as I remembered. I think I just have a short attention span (DH calls me the goldfish Grin), but I do dream one day of finding the perfect place. I even have a list of what it will have. In the meantime, we're having a great time exploring and never going back anywhere we've been before!

User67836 · 02/07/2019 19:54

Does anyone have a AI that they love? I'm desperate for an amazing recommendation... Happy to be pm'ed with details to keep it secret!

DarklyDreamingDexter · 02/07/2019 20:41

Ooh, I'm going to Lake Garda in September. First time. Staying in Desenzano. Any tips/recommendations?

Waterfallgirl · 02/07/2019 21:18

@User67836 me too ! Never tried AI but think we might try it next year . But you hear good and bad things...recommendations would be good !

Waterfallgirl · 02/07/2019 21:19

Loving this thread OP made a long list of places to look at already. Thanks

Nanamilly · 02/07/2019 21:34

I have a few holidays a year but the one constant place to visit time and time again is the Bosen/Bolzano region of the South Tyrol.

Titsywoo · 02/07/2019 22:19

This is a really good AI. Best for young kids though (10 and under really). My two were 12 and 10 when we went and weren't really into the kids clubs but they looked good for younger kids. We stayed in the quieter area (deluxe) and liked the relax area too but the activity area would have been too loud for us to stay in (two people with ASD in the family!). Anyway food was pretty good (especially in the 3 a la carte restaurants which you can visit once for each in your stay) and the water park was good fun. Pools were lovely but best in hot summer months as they are lagoon style and not heated.
