I never thought I'd be the person who goes on holiday to the same place every year

But every year it comes to booking and look at loads of options and then think that it might not be as lovely as the place we usually go.

If you'd have asked me in my 20s I'd have been very disappointed in my 30-something-self.

Lemonlady22 · 30/06/2019 00:09

just returned from my 9th time in Ibiza....love it guiltypleasure....wheres your special place?

Howyoualldoworkme · 30/06/2019 00:15

14 years at the same hotel in Lake Garda. It just improves every year and this year we found the perfect time to go. Before that we'd had to fit in with work commitments but we're retired now and can go any time of year.
It's just like coming home. We've already booked for next year Smile

I do joke and call us The Glockenspielers (Ever Decreasing Circles)

Howyoualldoworkme · 30/06/2019 00:19

Chilver Our hotel is in Desenzano Smile
A fantastic place to visit is Il Vittoriale en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vittoriale_degli_italiani

Bunnylady53 · 30/06/2019 00:27

I haven’t done it up to now but we went to such a fab hotel in Majorca last year, I can see us going again ( AIl Inclusive instead of Self Catering though). Not sure I could restrict myself to the same holiday destination every year but can absolutely understand why people keep returning to somewhere they know will give them what they want 😎

Dowser · 30/06/2019 05:20

Went to Florida 3-4 times a year for 9 years.
Now it’s somewhere closer to home..Tenerife three times a year for the last 7 years
We are even more rooted to one place with a static caran in N Yorks
Go there every week for 4 nights.

Dowser · 30/06/2019 05:24

Went to Cyprus, paphos for first time a couple of years ago.
It was ok but I preferred Tenerife

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/06/2019 05:35

I have home for feeling at home.

I'd rather go somewhere amazing and other to me. Next on the list (hopefully) are Gabon and Cape Verde.

I have that weird travel gene though.

Nonameslob · 30/06/2019 05:51

Cornwall for us, just love everything about it. We discover something new each year. We drive down little lanes randomly and see what we find. Last year we found a tiny cove with golden sand and didn't see another person all day. Like our own private beach. A couple of years ago we were exploring and came across a BBQ fish night on the beach with a fisherman's choir and it was fantastic. We add in a holiday abroad if we can afford it alternate years but don't feel like we've had a holiday if we haven't been to Cornwall too!

Noroof · 30/06/2019 06:00

We are the same...5 years running. I know it's child proofed, spotless and clean, near lots of activities and a brilliant price. Every year I look at other holiday cottages and can't find anything to compare

I will forever return to Iceland. Magic.

Absolutely loved Iceland, would love to go back. Felt so relaxed and you are right, it's magical.

Milliways · 30/06/2019 07:05

We have a Motorhome, so always have the “known home” feeling, and we usually go to France. We have favourite areas but try to find different sites if going back to the same tow although we often say “must come back to this spot” when get the perfect beach or lakeside view.
Italy is now on my horizon, travelling to Lake Garda and Venice.
Can any of you Lake Garda experts recommend any sites or parts of the lake we should aim for? We tend to move after 4 days as only have electric bikes with us so range is limited, bu happy to move around an area.

Prestia · 30/06/2019 07:11

I really love the north end of Lake Garda- Riva, Limone and Torbole. Riva is becoming much bigger and more resort like but its location is stunning. The weather can be more variable at that end of the lake though.

Not as exotic as any of these places but we always go back to Haven in Caister every year Grin Ds has autism and loves it, we know we’re all going to have a fab time. Lovely beach, quiet and huge and plenty of access nearby to all the touristy bits.

If I had the funds I’d go to kefalonia every year - the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to.

Towerofjoyless · 30/06/2019 07:32

We are booking up soon for our fourth visit to Duinrell in Holland. DS is 8 and DD is 4, they love it there. It has an amazing waterpark and a theme park on site, so loads to keep us all busy. I'm looking forward to being able to travel to all sorts of different places with DH when the kids are grown up but for now, Duinrell fits the bill.

Adversecamber22 · 30/06/2019 07:36

We used to stay in DH family holiday home as it was in the middle of nowhere and had four acres of gardens. We went every year for almost 20 years, it was sold last year. We did still go abroad as well every year.

OublietteBravo · 30/06/2019 07:53

I started off thinking I didn’t do this. Then I realised that we’ve been to Efteling six times. We’ve also been to Denmark four times (staying at the same places in Billund/Copenhagen each time).

BigBeast · 30/06/2019 08:09

I am in Cyprus right now, come every year and am also having a week here in SeptemberGrin

Tried other places but was not that keen, keep comparing to Cyprus, love the weather, the beach, the atmosphere, wouldnt look anywhere else, whats not to like? Im off to the beach nowWine

Pre DD, DH and I had some great holidays and always went someone different and usually long haul. Post DD we stayed closer to home and did a number of Euro holidays. Then when DD was 7 we went to Egypt for the first time... we've been back every year since (she's now 14).

We've been to a couple of other places as well in the last 7 years, but nothing compares. We went to the same hotel in Egypt the first 3 times, but have tried different areas since. This year we are still humming and hawing between Egypt and Tunisia, but I'm pretty sure Egypt is going to win.

(Saying that though, DD is actually asking if we can go somewhere else this year. She fancies Spain, but we are finding it will cost us more to get less... so I doubt it)

rookiemere · 30/06/2019 08:21

We are going to the same aparthotel in Tenerife that we have stayed in 5 times before at the October break. We've tried staying in other apartments- it's not cheap - but this place has what we need , and other destinations have been disappointing.

We'll probably stop going once DS no longer comes on family holidays- a lot of the attraction is the huge heated infinity pool and on tap mini golf. Indeed we thought we'd kicked the habit a couple of years ago and were off to other places, but it's just so relaxing to go somewhere where you know where everything is.

littlebillie · 30/06/2019 08:21

I was just discussing this my DH I used to be a real traveller and then we had DCs no money or motivation as it was too much work to do something adventurous. Now they are teens I'm in the zone where I need a rest!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 30/06/2019 08:32

@Loveislandaddict Annecy is so beautiful, you won't regret it.

Hiring bikes to cycle around the lake is a lovely way to see the lake and cheap.

If you have a car, a day trip to Chamonix is well worth it. You can go up a mountain whose name I forget in a cable car and there is a train journey which my grumpy teen companion wouldn't queue for but it meant to be amazing.

Annecy itself is just spectacular. The kind of place you could just wander for hours, occasionally finding a little cafe to sit outside and drink wine or coffee.

The lake itself is beautifully blue and inviting.

Have attached a picture.

OrdinarySnowflake · 30/06/2019 08:41

I've always been against the going to the same place thing, but this year we are semi doing this - we booked a holiday with an amazing kids club where they do lots of activities with the kids (rather than it just being sort of childcare, ours never wanted to go into kids clubs for more than 1 hour the whole holiday on standard holiday clubs). Our dcs loved it, made lots of friends and we felt we got a proper break as even when they weren't in the clubs they were happy to play with the other kids rather than needing to be entertained.

We debated just rebooking the exact same holiday, but it's a lot more expensive this year, so we're going to another hotel with the same operator in a different part of Greece.

OrdinarySnowflake · 30/06/2019 08:45

Oh but I do now get the centre parcs love - we went when dc1 was 3 and while it was fun, didn't really see the fuss. Went again this year at one of the half terms and it was a great (albeit expensive!) holiday.

I think next year is going to be a disappointment for the dcs, building work weve just planned has taken all our holiday budget...

EssentialHummus · 30/06/2019 08:47

Six years running in the same hotel in Crete here. I love that we’re on holiday from the moment we land (no stress about getting to the place, quality, amenities), staff know us very well and I can navigate most of the island without sat nav. We’ve already booked for next year.
