I never thought I'd be the person who goes on holiday to the same place every year

But every year it comes to booking and look at loads of options and then think that it might not be as lovely as the place we usually go.

If you'd have asked me in my 20s I'd have been very disappointed in my 30-something-self.

I used to scoff at my parents returning to the same place in Devon every year....but we just did 3 years at the same lovely holiday park with them and the kids. We aren't going this year as decided we wanted a change and now we are all really disappointed!!! Lol.

Celeriacacaca · 30/06/2019 08:53

When DC were younger we went to Brittany each year although would go on a big adventure (NZ, US etc) every three years or so. Now eldest DC is early 18 he's asking if we can go back to Brittany! It's so beautiful and unspoilt and, as a bonus, we made friends with some lovely ex-pats there who we all really enjoy spending time with.

Pre kids we would go to a Greek Island each year- hand luggage only for a fortnight! Those were the days. Found it by accident when we booked a mystery cheapie holiday and ended up in a grim Kavos in Corfu from which we escaped rapidly.

trilbydoll · 30/06/2019 08:57

We're going to the same campsite in France as last year, hopefully on the same pitch Grin I don't think it will be perfect forever, but while the kids are the right age we thought there was no need to risk a worse site!

Crankybitch · 30/06/2019 09:00

I love going to the same place - contemplating buying a holiday home there too.

You get to the place and don’t have that few days of trying to work out where everything is. You know the best restaurants to visit, what to avoid - bliss

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 30/06/2019 09:03

@ticking That will be the one, can't believe I forgot the name😳

boxlikeamarchhare · 30/06/2019 09:04

I don't go to the same place every year but I have reverted to a UK beach holiday once a year, a cottage within walking distance of the beach.

Preferably heading north to Northumberland or Scotland because the drive is more pleasant.

I do try to get something a bit different in at October or February half term but I absolutely love a UK beach holiday these days and I never thought I would say that ten years ago.

CormoranStrike · 30/06/2019 09:09

I’ve been to the one place in France about six times -we really love it.

JuniperBeer · 30/06/2019 09:12

6th trip to riva this year, we love it! We get an air bnb. Some paddle boarding. Electric bikes up over the mountain to lake ledro.
I love that there’s practically no English! Lots of Swiss and German. The water is like swimming in a warm bath of Evian!

Avbsm · 30/06/2019 09:19

We have been to the same place about 12 times since 1999. It is a camping resort in Europe. Found it by chance after our friends had recommended the area. Even the children (2 teenagers and a preteen) agree that it is the best place. We swim in the lake and go for walks. We find new sights to see every time too. It is relaxing to know the whereabouts of the place. We go to other countries too but the years we don't go I still miss it.

thethethethethe · 30/06/2019 09:27

There is 1 place in the UK that is incredibly beautiful and with good weather. The people who discover it go back year after year. Not telling though.

AnyFucker · 30/06/2019 09:34

Abersoch ?

Allington · 30/06/2019 09:34

It's also about getting to know one place in depth, rather than skim the surface of lots of places.

I was once sitting in the Piazza in Venice when a huge cruise ship turned up and long crocodile of Japanese visitors walked off. The stream of people walked into the Doge's palace and half an hour later (as the back of the crocodile were just going in) the leaders of the stream were walking out and heading back to the boat. That took 'skimming the surface' to a new level Grin

ginghamtablecloths · 30/06/2019 09:43

If you enjoy this lovely place then there's no problem. You will, of course, notice small changes each year, that's inevitable.

It's comforting to know where things are.

burnoutbabe · 30/06/2019 09:54

I've been to Orlando 6 or 7 times and New York 5 or 6 times. But tons to do there so not too samey.

TheRLodger · 30/06/2019 13:12

I’m in my 20s and have two holidays a year which are always the same place

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/06/2019 13:15

I love Lindos in rhodes

And as a family we love florida

I would like to be rich enough to be able to go to both of them every year and have another holiday somewhere different

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/06/2019 13:16

And i was trying to visit a different country for every year of may age...I’m only in the 20’s and i wont make any ground if i keep going to the same places

LegionOfDoom · 01/07/2019 17:09

kateandme

Thanks that would be awesome if you could pm me some places in Norway. Definitely not set on France, I’ve just never been skiing before and there’s sooooo many different places on google I don’t know where to start!

puppy23 · 01/07/2019 17:15

I never thought I'd be someone going back to the same place again but I had a gorgeous week in Antalya that I've been dying to repeat ever since. I went out to Tenerife recently and its just made me realise even more how much I love Antalya - I really think its slightly ruined other places for me now!

Camomila · 01/07/2019 17:15

We do because we go to visit relatives.

Its fairly common for Italians (and I think Americans) to have a little mountain house/beach house/lake house that they visit year after year and gets passed down.

I like it that the people my parents hanged out with in the summer/christmas as teenagers, their DC played with as kids, and now or babies/toddlers do.

S0CKS · 01/07/2019 17:21

Definitely understand i went somewhere last year and it felt like home unfortunately its quite an expensive place to visit so DH would rather go other places and back there in a few years but i feel I could keep going back and back again

probstimeforanewname · 01/07/2019 17:45

I used to scoff at the in-laws as they used to go to Falmouth every May half term (couldn't understand going back to the same hotel year after year but also the same week, especially as they didn't have school age kids anymore).

But we go to the same place every year although we usually go elsewhere too. Not always the same week, we've been May half term, last week in August and are going this Friday!

There are a few places we've been back to - eg Lake Garda (we are under 60 :) ) and Vienna as well as Northumberland and the Loch Lomond area.
