Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

My Kenwood MultiOne.

Cleared lots of space by all my cheap gadgets being in one machine now. It is so brilliant. I use it many times a week. It makes me feel like an adult.

MIne are all probably a bit vain/selfish, but:

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair - I never think it does much, but if I stop using it, my skin looks instantly shit. When DP was made redundant a couple of years ago we switched out loads of stuff to cheaper alternatives, but I sold things rather than do without.

Good boots/coats/knitwear - I live in Scotland and need decent winter stuff. I also have small, wide feet which are difficult to clad.

Perfume/makeup.

Fresh flowers in the house always.

Dental work. I had root canal work with an obscenely expensive specialist - also when DP wasn’t working - instead of extracting a back tooth.

My cat. She also needed a load of cripplingly expensive dental work earlier this year, which was OBVIOUSLY not covered by our insurance, but worth every penny because she gives me so much joy.

Attic spa Hot tub (instead of expensive wedding - still going strong 10 years on)
Kenwood chef -titanium
Ninja foodie - pressure/slow cooker/steamer and air fryer all in one!
Nice make up
Bibo - cold & hot filtered water at the touch a button
Mulberry & Coach handbags
Sonos setup & with NAS to stream
Apple products...cut me and I bleed apple juice.
Botox & microbladed eyebrows

WalkofShame · 30/06/2019 21:40

My camper van - just don’t know why we put it off for so long.

SansG · 30/06/2019 21:42

BTW...the make up & perfume collection maybe a bit OCD Grin

LauraRo · 30/06/2019 21:42

Thanks @Asgoodasarest! Your comment combined with the reading of an article about Mulberry today has got me yearning for a high end bag-for-life. Might need to wait until I've paid off the iPad first 😂

Fishfingerface1 · 30/06/2019 21:52

A professional oven clean . It never looks good when I do it myself

lboogy · 30/06/2019 22:04

My iPhone. Bought it cash in 2014. Still going strong and is pretty much my life

A coat from Hobbs which I liked but didn't especially think it was that fancy. I'm always shocked at how many people ask me where it's from and compliment me on it. Shame I'm now too fat post baby to wear it 😭

I've bought a few other things over the years but nothing gives me pleasure the way my phone does

Jellicoe · 30/06/2019 22:08

My 1800s antique French violin.

Epanoui · 30/06/2019 22:12

Philips Lumea. Completely life-changingly wonderful for those of us who are a bit hairier than we'd like.

Miele dishwasher and washing machine. Amazing. Soooo much better than any of our previous brands.

Really thick oak flooring to replace laminate. So lovely to walk on. Looks nice even when filthy. Not slippery and really warm underfoot in winter. Also no draughts between floorboards. Was ££££ and worth every penny.

Nuxe face cream. £26 a pop but my skin looks great and I have had like two spots in the last year (previously a daily occurrence).

Asgoodasarest · 30/06/2019 22:18

@LauraRo it’s a slippery slope!

Artura · 30/06/2019 22:19

Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch. Bought 20 yrs ago with my first decent paycheck. No batteries and only one service in all that time. Still love the simple silver design...

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 30/06/2019 22:19

My Chihuahua. The first dog I've had since a puppy, hes lush.

pinkstripeycat · 30/06/2019 22:23

My Range double oven/cooker. I have either bought cheap or have been given everything, clothes, cars, furniture, TV but this time I thought I am going to have what I want. I had to borrow money from my kids banks but they are young teens and didn’t mind. I love it so much and 2 ovens is so handy when cooking at different temps

Scorpiostar · 30/06/2019 22:24

After years of making do with cheaper alternatives, I’m a recent convert to the joys of buying what I really want instead of what’s cheap.
My Kitchenaid freestanding mixer. It gets used everyday for so many things. When we moved to a different country, it came in my hand luggage!
Duallit toaster - it was a we’d present 18 years ago and is still going strong.
Super king Four Seasons hotel bed. It’s the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in.
White Company bedding. I don’t buy anything else anymore. It looks great and lasts forever.
Dyson hairdryer - it halved the time it takes to dry my hair.
Daffni hair brush - scarily hot but makes my hair look fabulous.
Philip Kingsley Elasticize hair treatment. I always get so many complements on my shiny hair when I use it.

Jaxhog · 30/06/2019 22:25

Flying business class back from Japan on hols last year. I don't travel well, and it was worth every single penny to be able to sleep.

TigerTooth · 30/06/2019 22:27

This...
Makes me happy

What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?
Jaxhog · 30/06/2019 22:30

Our super king sized waterbed. We've had it for 35 years and it still gives me the best night's sleep ever. Spoilt me for any hotel bed!

bananamonkey · 30/06/2019 22:31

Sealy Posturepedic mattress, DH insisted our new bed was a super king so it was £££ but it’s like sleeping on a cloud, was brilliant for pregnancy and subsequent co-sleeping. Lovely JL sheets to go on it too (anniversary present).

A seasalt raincoat, I feel like a total Mum in it as I’m not one for practical clothes usually but it’s been a lifesaver for the nursery run.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night cream and eye gel make my skin sing with happiness when I put it on.

Bose headphones, I use them nearly every day for podcasts or exercising so the cost per use is low, I always broke or lost cheap in ear ones.

I was sceptical but the Brabantia bin was totally worth it.

A lot of these things I’ve bought with vouchers saved up as there’s never anything I specifically want for Christmas/my birthday.

I really want microblading and Botox, although cutting my fringe back in may be cheaper!

browneyes77 · 30/06/2019 22:37

I do wildlife photography as a hobby and splurged on an expensive telephoto lens which almost emptied my savings.

Game changer. Worth every single penny!!

bananamonkey · 30/06/2019 22:37

Oh and my Uppababy Vista, felt like a crazy amount to spend on a pram but the amount of use it’s got over nearly 3 years is worth it, sounds really sad to say it but the handling is so good, you can fold it with the seat still attached and you can fit a week’s worth of shopping underneath. Love going back to it after using the Maclaren on holiday.

Paddingtonthebear · 30/06/2019 22:39

Agree re Uppababy Vista. It’s in a league of its own.

BillywigSting · 30/06/2019 22:40

Engineered oak flooring.

Much nicer than laminate, looks beautiful, is tough as nails, easier to care for than solid wood. Cool in summer and warm in winter.

A decent pair of boots. Mine were £70 in a sale, should have been £140 and it has been so lovely to go a whole winter without getting wet feet.

Led ceiling lights. I am vv short and it's great not having to worry about climbing a ladder to change a bulb.

Ottoman coffee table. Living room looks like a living room now after ds goes to bed as the toys in that room all get hidden away in there.

I would love a meile vacuum but can't afford one atm

CauliflowerBalti · 30/06/2019 22:41

@NameWithChange - I don't have a 'recommend a friend' code. I have a 10% off your next order, which you're welcome to use if it will accept it, but at the moment they have 20% off orders over £500. It ends in a couple of days so you'd have to swoop NOW but I doubt you'd get better code than that. Honestly is a lifechanging mattress....

Ivegotthree · 30/06/2019 22:49

Dyson desk fans for every bedroom. They are excellent. I bought one a year for the last few years so now we all have one.
