Do you have a doorbell?

Inspired by the doorbell update thread.

I’ve lived in 5 houses (that I’ve owned myself) and for some reason none of them have ever had a doorbell. Is this unusual? It’s never crossed my mind that I don’t have a doorbell.

Thinking about it, only one of those houses actually had a door knocker, people just have to properly knock on our door with their hand!

Yes. I've never lived in a house that didn't have a doorbell.

footphobic · 28/06/2019 23:32

We have an old-fashioned butlers bell on the wall inside, connected to a bell pull outside. Has a lovely ring and makes me smile. Simple things please me 😊

Laniakea · 28/06/2019 23:34

No, I have a (completely irrational) hatred of doorbells. As a result we’ve never had one!

starfishmummy · 28/06/2019 23:38

Yes. Changing it when we moved here was one of the first things we did. The previous owners had put one of those awful musical bells in, each time it was pressed we got a different time Confused We just got a regular ringer,!!

Starlight456 · 28/06/2019 23:41

I have a door bell I can unplug . Perfect so people don’t disturb me when I don’t want to .

Postman already annoys me banging on the door when I have a ball sure I would be worse without one

Winenotttea · 28/06/2019 23:44

If I were to install a doorbell it would definitely be one of the super annoying ones like the 70s car horns 😂

No I don't. I don't like them.

AriadneesWeb · 28/06/2019 23:51

I’ve never lived anywhere without a doorbell. My current house is quite long and thin so the back is a long way from the front, I definitely wouldn’t hear a knock. My doorbell is really loud and has a proper tubular bell, when the button is pressed a little hammer rings the bell.

PolkadotLollipop · 28/06/2019 23:53

Yes, tall house so need a loud bell.

SpoonBlender · 28/06/2019 23:58

We had one when we bought the place, I removed it shortly after. Much prefer a knock to a BING BONG.

happymummy12345 · 29/06/2019 00:01

We have one. It's plugged in in the kitchen, no one uses it though

Winenotttea · 29/06/2019 00:02

We have dogs, 3 of the buggers, so perhaps that’s why I’m not so bothered about having a door bell.

I have a knocker. It sounds like the bailiffs are here when someone uses it. I live in a terrace. Everyone knows when we get a visitor.

RezCowgirl · 29/06/2019 00:36

No, don't even have a door knocker. The postman knocks and you can track the takeaway delivery guy on the app so no need for one really.

BummyKnocker · 29/06/2019 00:41

Yes, it plays lots of different sounds, everybody who rings it loves it.

Winegumaddict · 29/06/2019 07:04

No we don't. There was one here when we moved in but it broke. We have dogs so they alert us way before anyone could ring a bell.

nicecuppaforme · 29/06/2019 07:09

Yes, we have a Ring bell.

If I was at the back or top of the house I'd never hear someone chapping the door.

boxlikeamarchhare · 29/06/2019 07:13

Door bell and knocker here Grin.

You should get a lovely knocker OP.

nespressowoo · 29/06/2019 07:20

We rented 3 houses before buying and none had a bell. First house we bought didn't, second did and I HATED it. Third and final one we are now in and doesn't - and I won't be getting one either. I hate them. I am also one of these that doesn't like answering the door.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 29/06/2019 07:26

Where we live the police are advising the residents to install RingGo (?) bell. There have been so many breakins they are inundated. Burglars are ringing or knocking, people not answering fast enough or ignoring & they are breaking in. So many have been confronted by the burglars. Sad

We’ve put in a cctv doorbell as our teens are often home so they can let people know someone is home without having to answer the door. Not quite what you asked I know!

missmouse101 · 29/06/2019 07:26

I always put a knocker up if there isn't one. I hate not hearing when anyone's at my door. In my job, I have to knock/ring on front doors sometimes and it's the most annoying and painful thing to be knocking with my knuckles repeatedly. I often use the hard plastic of the car key instead and if it dents the door, tough. Put up a knocker or bell FGS.

Ascreed · 29/06/2019 07:30

Yes I have one of the ring doorbells that connect with your phone so you can see/Talk to who's at the door.

Kidssendingmenuts · 29/06/2019 07:32

Yes I do, it's in the form of two border collies aged 8&9 who bark as soon as someone comes down the drive 🤣🤣 x

ProfYaffle · 29/06/2019 07:36

Yes, one of the plug in kind. If we're in the garden we can't hear anyone knocking at the door. When we started missing parcel deliveries we got the doorbell!

EleanorReally · 29/06/2019 07:41

No, i lived in a first floor flat when I last had one, the two houses since then havent had a door bell,
