I remember when Iceberg lettuce was exotic
When you had to load up a computer game using a tape recorder
When hitchhikers were common

Going to the video store and hiring a Beta Max video

I remember booking a holiday on Teletext. Then spotting the one I wanted but missing it and having to go through 25+ pages until it showed up again...

Also driving my old metro and having to pull out the choke and accelerating everytime it slowed down so the car wouldn't stall...

I remember driving my old Vauxhall with the window wound down and the heater on full blast to keep the temperature below the red in any traffic.
Buying cigarette sweets from the newsagents

Worra if your mum doesn't remember a farthing had a Robin on it

I remember my big sister sent me to the shops to buy her cigs.

The rag and bone man with his horse and cart. I am really old! And the lemonade man with all the bottles of juice like orangeade and fizzy lime coming round every Friday.

milk, cream and eggs delivered by horse and cart in the morning.

Topping up the car radiator with boiled then cooled water. Changing the spark plugs. Pulling out the choke to get it started.

Oh and you could get fags from a vending machine outside the shop.

I'm not old enough (quite) for farthings to have been legal tender in my lifetime, but DF used to organise the Christian aid collections in our area, I helped count the money - farthings showed up for years.

Making mixed tapes for someone you fancied and having to try and stop recording from the radio it just as the DJ cut in.
Smoking on aeroplanes!

When you went into the doctor’s waiting room and most of the folk were smoking. Then you went in to see the doctor and he was smoking too!

No seatbelts in cars, and riding in the boot!
Corona lemonade and taking the empties back for pennies.

2oz of sweeties from the corner shop. A quarter when I was a bit more flush!

And when sweet rationing stopped, and I had an old three penny bit to spend.

We had an 8 track tape player in the car, that my dad wired in, balanced on the centre console. We had four tapes - John Denver/Glen Campbell, Joan Baez, the BeeGees, and Elvis, and I can still remember every word of every song on them.
