Kate Spade bags

I’m considering purchasing a KS bag in the sale. The one I am eying is down from £350 to £165 less 20% in their flash sale - so makes it around £130. This is more than I have ever spent on a bag but I wanted to buy something really nice and good quality that says “grown up nice bag”. This is the one I’m considering.

Can anyone recommend, I was considering ted baker but looked at some reviews which rather put me off

Sorry I've never had a Kate Spade bag so I can't comment on the brand. I can say that it is a most fabulous bag- classic colour scheme and design, perfect mid size. Will go with lots of things and you won't tire of it. Quite fancy one myself at that price!
My only concern would be whether I could get those shorter handles over my shoulder- and with a coat on. I think they are handles rather than shoulder straps. Not so keen on using with the long strap.

Soola · 22/06/2019 18:04

They’re ok, well made but not particularly stand out. Nice work bags but for me personally a bit on the boring side.

Plain, smart and practical though.

El0die, I mainly carry my bag either in my hand or over my forearm, I find shoulder straps just slide so I don’t really wear shoulder bags at all. I know it’s a bit of a safe design but I’ve apparently turned into my Mum when I hit 40 with the main consideration of any high-price item being “will I still like this in 5 years”. God I’m so middle aged haha

I have a few Kate spade bags for a few years and they are great quality etc

Do you live near an outlet? I got mine from Bicester for a fraction of the price

Violetroselily · 22/06/2019 18:24

I have a purse that is excellent quality and in great nick. I also bought a bag last week in the sale and I love it already.

A lot of friends have various bags and all say they're excellent quality.

GloGirl · 22/06/2019 18:29

I've just bought my first one this week!! Star Excited to see this thread.

There is a cheap outlet in Cheshire Oaks it's worth a drive.

BelulahBlanca · 22/06/2019 18:32

I love Kate Spade but I paid £500+ for my one and it broke after 18 months. Not used every day either as I have a baby bag and a work bag.

S0CKS · 22/06/2019 18:34

Been in the shop - the expensive ones seem nice but i don't think the core ones are too nice a bit too much style than substance have you looked at the coach sale?

trufflehunterthebadger · 22/06/2019 18:40

GloGirl, possibly not from the wilds of East Sussex 😆

I have a very similar one and have had it about 5 years now. Love it still and it is still in perfect condition.

trufflehunterthebadger · 22/06/2019 18:42

socks, I did have a look at the coach site further to some research on the style and beauty board but everything seemed quite “sack” shaped which I don’t really like. Do they do stuff in a similar style which I just didn’t find ?

I bought a couple of bags and a purse in an outlet in Florida last year. I've used one bag and the purse almost every day since then and they're still looking fabulous.
The other bag isn't in a classic colour but is a classic style. So I hope that it will be my 'go to' bag for special occasions for years to come.
All are great quality, hard wearing and have all the practical features you'd expect (space, pockets, fastenings etc).

Chottie · 22/06/2019 18:44

I'm a Kate Spade fan and I have been really pleased with the bags and purses I have bought.

MondeoFan · 22/06/2019 18:45

I bought an across the body KS bag in Florida 2 years ago and use it daily, still looks brand new

JoJoSM2 · 22/06/2019 18:54

At £130 that's a good buy. Full price definitely not worth the money as the quality isn't up there. If it's going to be your nice, grown up bag, I'd probably go for a block colour rather than a two tone.

Squiff70 · 22/06/2019 18:58

Nice bag. If you love it and can afford it, buy it.

The question you need to ask yourself really for any 'investment' bag is "will I still like it 1/2/however many years from now?". If you think your tastes might change, you might want to hang fire. If it's something you're likely to get your money's worth out of then go for it.

If you do buy it, enjoy it. It looks like a nice bag!

trufflehunterthebadger · 22/06/2019 19:04

Squiff70, I’ve been buying this shape of bag now for about 15 years so I’m finally confident that it’s something I genuinely like rather than fashion telling me that’s what I like

I've got a KS bag and wallet, also purchased from a US outlet a few years ago. I tend to use it for holidays (it's small, not bought for work), and it's brilliant, still looks as good as new, and I certainly don't treat it with kid gloves. Outlet prices are amazing.

Last time I visited US, I bought a Coach bag and wallet from the outlet for an incredible price, it's doing well, and I love using it every day.

Previous to my Coach bag, I've been using a Mulberry for about 7 years almost daily, and still looks amazing. But their pricing has priced me out of their market forever, even at outlet prices.

weebarra · 22/06/2019 21:36

That is really lovely. I have a Coach bag too (also sale!) and it's very nice.

IloveJudgeJudy · 22/06/2019 23:26

I have a Kate Spade bag bought by DH from the States for me last year. I love it. Unfortunately I can't use it for work as my belongings have to go in a quite small locker. I use an Oyster bag for work of that kind of shape.

I get a lot of pleasure and compliments when I use my Kate Spade bag. I'd say, buy it. I, too, love that shape.

Squiff70 · 22/06/2019 23:30

Fucking hell @trufflehunterthebadger I ws only trying to help and be supportive of your choice! I also wasn't JUST referring to the shape but the colour and style too. I know not to bother in future. Fucking Nora.

i have this exact handbag in black! its gorgeous. had it around 6 months, use it daily and it hasnt scratched or marked. get lots of compliments on it.

PaddingtonMare · 23/06/2019 00:59

I had one a couple of years ago and the straps broke within 6 months. I bought it at a well known department store and when I took it back the assistant just took it and suggested I tried a different brand as the KS concession was getting lots of returns. I tend to have Coach bags now and buy secondhand.
