I’ve been reported as a missing person!

Frequent poster and have name changed for this.
I was woken by my mobile ringing about 40 minutes ago, I answered it on the second call, it was the police, they were outside my property and wanted to come in. I duly went downstairs and let them in.
I was starting to feel panicky as I have elderly parents and an adult DD who doesn’t live at home anymore.
I was asked my full name which I told them, they then told me I have been reported as a missing person. Somebody had told them that my father and partner couldn’t make contact with me and they were very worried about me. I was with my father this afternoon and I said goodnight to my partner around 2 hours ago by text as he’s at an airport and was about to fly.
I am now in bed with a cup of tea and feeling very confused. They checked on my sleeping DC too.
I don’t know why I’m posting to be honest, has anybody else experienced this?
I’m a very normal woman with a very normal life, they insisted that the call to them wasn’t malicious. So very confused!

How strange!
They definitely had your correct name? So not mistaken identity?
I don’t get how they can confidently say it wasn’t malicious if you’ve actually had normal contact with the people the Police claim haven’t heard from you!

Jojowash · 21/06/2019 00:35

That's weird..

Maybe your name is exactly the same as someone else's?

That's worrying too, have the left someone else that could be in danger?

Weird, what your father say about it?

They were definitely police weren't they?

Shock
Jojowash · 21/06/2019 00:36

Did you see police car?

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 21/06/2019 00:36

Have you been ignoring or blocked any phone numbers recently?

WorraLiberty · 21/06/2019 00:36

How strange!

Do you have a well meaning relative with dementia or something?

Clutching at straws here.

Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:37

Thank you for replying at this time of night! Yes, correct name and my mobile phone number which they contacted me on. It’s unnerved me a little bit to be honest.
That’s very true but I can’t think for the life of me who would do anything malicious towards me.

OP posts:
calpop · 21/06/2019 00:38

Did they tell you the name of the father and partner that supposedly reported being unable to contact you? Were they correct? If they are, than someone has maliciously reported. If they're wrong, then its mistaken identity on the part of the police with someone with the same name as you, surely?

FlamedToACrisp · 21/06/2019 00:38

Have you contacted your father to ask if he reported you missing?

ThelmaDinkley · 21/06/2019 00:41

How strange. Could it have been your daughter? Has she been unable to get hold of you?

katewhinesalot · 21/06/2019 00:45

Did they have a police car? I'd be worried they were up to no good in fake uniforms.

Butterymuffin · 21/06/2019 00:45

Were they in uniform? Did you get their names? I would call the station tomorrow and ask about the names they have for your father and partner who supposedly reported this. But enjoy your tea and get some sleep now.

Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:45

They took my fathers name and phone number on the off chance I were to be reported as missing again, I said I’d rather they just contacted me as my parents are elderly and would panic.
I will tell my parents about it in the morning.
Yes, they were definitely police, the car was parked outside.
I haven’t blocked any numbers or anything like that.
No senile relatives either Grin
It’s incredibly unnerving to have a couple of officers at your door in the middle of the night, that unnerved me more than being reported as missing. A hundred thoughts flash through your mind.

OP posts:
MrMeSeeks · 21/06/2019 00:47

I’d be thinking mistaken identity, or malicious

Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:47

Oh no, sorry, I probably didn’t explain myself properly. Somebody (they wouldn’t tell me who) reported me as missing and told the police that my father and partner hadn’t seen me either which is totally bizarre.

OP posts:
RosaWaiting · 21/06/2019 00:48

So are they not allowed to tell you who reported it?

I also thought an adult would have to be missing for a while before the police would do anything.

Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:48

Exchanged a few texts with DD today so no not her, she would come banging on the front door if she had any concerns.

Apileofballyhoo · 21/06/2019 00:49

That's making me feel anxious and I'm just reading your post, OP. I hope you settle down ok and get some sleep. It's very strange. How long is your partner's flight?

Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:50

They said that the mysterious somebody hadn’t seen me for over a week. Wracking my brains trying to comprehend the whole thing.

OP posts:
Frownette · 21/06/2019 00:50

Ex? Drunken friend? Relative? I hope you're start to relax now, might be worth texting dd or your father if that wouldn't disturb him

NoSquirrels · 21/06/2019 00:50

Elderly mother? Who is confused?

calpop · 21/06/2019 00:50

could it have been your DD drunk, messing about?

Frownette · 21/06/2019 00:51

Neighbour?

Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:51

Unfortunately my DP won’t be home until early next week, I’m not going to tell him because he will worry.

OP posts:
Lizzielocket · 21/06/2019 00:58

My parents literally live round the corner and I saw them both today, both are elderly but still very sharp, no senility in either of them.
It’s not DD style, she’s in her early 20’s and hasn’t drunk since a nasty experience with a bottle of vodka a couple of years ago.
I’ve text my friend who lives a couple of roads away, he’s still awake and chatting to me.
Feel wide awake but am going to try and get some sleep, it’s a 5.30 start today for me.
Thank you so much, I will report back in the morning or earlier if anything else strange happens.

OP, Im being a bit a lot paranoid, but I'd worry about whether it really was the police and not some people trying to figure out whether you are/were on your own... it's not impossible to fake a police car and uniforms. Could you call your local station just to check that it was the 'actual' police?
