I think mine should get ready to go to bed at 8.30 and be asleep by 9, ready to get up a 7am. DD thinks it's too early and wants to go to bed at 9.30. If she sprung out of bed at 7 am after going to bed at 9.30 I wouldn't mind, but I often have to go in and wake her up. I want her to get into good habits before starting secondary school.

Can you provide me with some ammo so I can show her in the morning?

What time does your DD go to bed. (thanks!)

I think 9pm is reasonable! But no idea as have got a 7yr old- he goes to bed 6.45pm; story and cuddle in bed and I leave his room by 7pm, and he'll shortly be asleep!

He wakes up around 6.30am

GinoPlaysTheTango · 18/06/2019 21:04

9pm.

At 10 years old they need 10 hours sleep, and that decreases by 15 minutes per year till they're 18. You can google it (sorry, forgotten the link).

Obviously this is just an average and individuals will vary. But if she's sleepy at 7am after going to bed at 9.30pm, then there's your individual answer!

ineedtogotobedanyway · 18/06/2019 21:05

My 9 year old goes at 8.30pm. When she is 10 it will be 9pm and then 9.30pm when she turns 11.

My 11 year old goes to bed at 9.30 - sorry Grin. I give her a shout at 7.15am in the morning. She starts secondary school in September. I don't have a problem with 9.30 as long as she gets up when woken, gets her breakfast, gets herself ready and is out the door for the bus.

MrsOaf · 18/06/2019 21:12

DSS is 11 & settles down about 9 on a school night & is still a pain to wake at 7:45am!

Weekends about 10pm

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 18/06/2019 21:15

In bed for 8.30 and reads til 9.

ElectricLions · 18/06/2019 21:19

To me it depends how they are in the morning, some 11 year olds are at secondary and have a long journey so catch a bus at 7.15am, some roll out of bed, into clothes and eat breakfast whilst walking the 5 minutes to secondary.

I have older children but Ds1 still goes to bed way earlier than is suggested on here. Gets up without any issue and straight into the shower at 6.30am.

Ds2 gets up slightly earlier but watches news programs with me and get in the shower as his brother gets out.

Sleep is individual, as she can't get out of bed easily then she is going to bed too late.

alwaysadouble · 18/06/2019 21:19

I have a 12 year old who goes to bed at 8.30, but that's only because they take about an hour to get out of bed in the morning if they don't have enough sleep.

SarfE4sticated · 18/06/2019 21:21

@implantsandaDyson I'm going to have to report your post - if DD sees it, I'm toast!

12 year old goes to bed at 9:30 on a school night, gets up at 6am. He could get up at 7am but it takes him an hour to come around enough to start getting ready.

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/06/2019 21:23

Sorry, mine was going up at about 9.30 at 11, usually 10ish now at age 13. Gets up at 7.30.

TheHobbitMum · 18/06/2019 21:24

My 11yr old goes to bed at 9.30 too, sorry Grin

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 18/06/2019 21:25

Mine is in bed by 8, but has to get up at 6 so needs to get to sleep

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/06/2019 21:26

Lights out at 8:30 which normally translates to asleep at 9.

implantsandaDyson · 18/06/2019 21:26

Sorry Sarf...... I cannot tell a lie - 9.30pm works for her Blush. I have 3 kids and they all have very differing sleep needs/patterns. My youngest, (she's 8) is up at 5.45am no matter how much cajoling and fiddling with bedtimes goes on. She wakes up and is ready to go all day! My 14 year old is happy enough to go to sleep at 10pm and self wakes at 7am on the button.

atomicnotsoblonde · 18/06/2019 21:28

My DS goes to bed at 9:30. He's up every day without issue at 6:30. If he wasn't then we would review without question.

atomicnotsoblonde · 18/06/2019 21:28

He's also 12

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 18/06/2019 21:29

9.30-10 (but she’s y7). She gets herself up at 6.30 and leaves at 7 no problem (likes to get to school early for breakfast with her friends) so I think she gets the right amount of sleep for her.

niceberg · 18/06/2019 21:29

My 11 year old is in bed for 8:30, lights out at 9:00. Awake most days by 7:00.

LemonGingerCakes · 18/06/2019 21:30

Upstairs at 8ish to shower etc. Into bed by 8:30. Lights off at 9.

CIT80 · 18/06/2019 21:31

My dd is 13 and is almost always asleep by 9 but by choice - my nearly ten year old goes to bed at 9 and never asleep before half past but I think that’s half an hour too late in reality but you can’t make them sleep

DropZoneOne · 18/06/2019 21:31

Mine is 9:30 - sorry OP. The screaming ab dabs when i try to get her to bed any earlier just aren't worth it. She's up at 7am no bother, so don't think she got the memo about needing 10 hours sleep.

JennaOfEluria · 18/06/2019 21:32

My newly 12 year old goes to her room at 7pm. She's allowed non-screen pottering around until 8pm...normally that means reading but it's her choice as long as there's no devices being used. Lights out at 8pm although I know she doesn't drift off properly until 9pm or later.

Whilst I can't bank on how much sleep she gets, I can bank on how much restful downtime she gets in the evenings.

When we've deviated from this...so for example a 9pm bedtime because we've been somewhere she's noticeably more tired and grumpy the next day even though she might have actually fallen asleep at the same time as normal.

Her wake up time is 7am unless I have to work away...then it's much earlier!

mejon · 18/06/2019 21:33

My almost 13 year old goes to bed at 9 (voluntarily), sometimes earlier if she's tired. She's up - again by choice - at 6ish come schoolday, weekend or holiday (she's clearly not mine!). My 8 year old also goes at 9 - we've tried earlier but she just faffs and does anything but sleep. She wakes usually at 7ish. She's still awake as I type whilst the older one is already asleep Hmm.

CIT80 - I think we must be twins Grin
