Would you judge this parent?

If a parent turned up at a school event, such as sports day, nativity etc, dressed in untidy/dirty work clothes. Pre school or early primary age children. Parent is self employed, tradesperson. Not filthy but obviously less clean and tidy than an office worker.

No.

Shitsandgigglez · 17/06/2019 16:46

And as many PPs have said lots do this at my DCs school

managedmis · 17/06/2019 16:47

Hell no

HouseOfGoldandBones · 17/06/2019 16:47

I can't imagine anyone would judge another parent in this situation. And I say that as a parent who's DC's are at private school, where you might expect that, if anywhere, judgements would be made.
It was DC's sports day last week, and, as it was the afternoon, a lot of parents had skived off early to come. Some were in suits, some were in overalls, some were in Hi-Viz.

babysharkah · 17/06/2019 16:49

Nope. What do you want them to do - go home and get changed to be presentable to you?

KevinKlineSwoon · 17/06/2019 16:50

I doubt I would notice let alone care

BlueMerchant · 17/06/2019 16:52

I'd think there's someone who's taken time out of working to come to their DC's school event. I wouldn't start analysing their job/salary/lifestyle etc if that's what you are thinking.

PortiaCastis · 17/06/2019 16:53

Nope but I'd sure as hell judge anyone who thought it was their right to judge someone who'd been working, everyone has a skeleton in their cupboard

Cannyhandleit · 17/06/2019 16:53

I love to silently judge people but for this I would not! I would actually judge the person doing the judging!

lovemeorleaveme · 17/06/2019 16:54

Eh...no!!

Fucktuates · 17/06/2019 16:54

Definitely not

yesteaandawineplease · 17/06/2019 16:56

no! I live in an area where there's a lot of people in a particular manual industry. people often turn up to school events straight from work a bit dirty and sometimes a bit smelly Grin. it's great they've managed to get away from work to attend. it's not always easy especially at this time of year when there's loads on. if they had to go home and shower and change first it would be even more difficult.

are you being judged op?

BogglesGoggles · 17/06/2019 16:57

Well not unless they are a bio hazard.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 17/06/2019 16:58

Nope but I'm biased, that's how OH shows up to most school events.

InsertFunnyUsername · 17/06/2019 16:59

No.

itsgoodtobehome · 17/06/2019 17:03

I live in a small village and DS attends the local primary school. Loads of the parents are farmers, or labourers or gardeners and they are always at school on their 'dirty' work gear. No-one bats an eyelid. They are just doing their jobs.

HolesinTheSoles · 17/06/2019 17:04

Errr no definitely not. I know plenty of non tradespeople who show up in dirty clothes after gardening or painting their house. Why on earth would I care?

pictish · 17/06/2019 17:04

No. They are there and that’s the important part.
Why, who judged you/your dh?

FizzyGreenWater · 17/06/2019 17:05

Good lord no, plenty of people in all manner of work clothes a couple of weeks ago at our sports day thing!

FizzyGreenWater · 17/06/2019 17:05

And yes ranging from office sparkly to pig in shit Grin

ZenNudist · 17/06/2019 17:06

No, why would anyone judge? Are you one of those schools where everyone dresses up for sports day? Only heard of this on mumsnet.

CrackersDontMatter · 17/06/2019 17:06

Definitely not! I'd assume they'd taken time out of their work day to be there.

OKBobble · 17/06/2019 17:07

Yes I would judge that they are caring person to have taken time out of their obviously busy work day to get to an event to support their child.

Poetryinaction · 17/06/2019 17:10

My dh always looks like that. He's a painter and all his clothes are splattered.

Geminijes · 17/06/2019 17:10

If they were a trades person and they turned up in their work clothes then why would you judge them? It's no different to an office worker turning up in their work clothes.

Just because their clothes may be covered in 'the dirt of their trade', they do not deserved to be judged.

Anyone who do judge them are judging them for being a trades person rather than an office worker etc.
