I’m in Ireland I always though it was Nor-Rich

JassyRadlett · 15/06/2019 22:54

I am not from there and say Norrich. DH is from there and says Norridge. I cannot, though.

I'd say Nor-ridge (born and lived there for many years but don't have much of the accent) I've heard it said Nar-ridge as well!

Orchidoptic · 15/06/2019 22:57

Nor rich here. Is it anything like shroows bury (normal) / shrows bury (putting on airs)?

RubberTreePlant · 15/06/2019 22:57

Naaaridge if you're local. West of Loostarft and East of Humbase.

Lowestoft, and erm, Homebase? Confused

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 15/06/2019 22:59

I live in Narrrrrich. Pronounced Nor-rich

Padget · 15/06/2019 22:59

Definitely starts with Naaaaah. Probably say Naaaaah-ch if I was imitating (West Norfolk, we have a different accent!)

RubberTreePlant · 15/06/2019 23:01

Excellent. I'm claiming a win Smile

It looks like we are moving there, and DH keeps laughing at me for saying 'Norridge'. It's obviously my E Anglian heritage coming out.

Naw-itch according to the in laws. I say Nor ridge

MrsJacksonAvery · 15/06/2019 23:09

DottieLottie1 · 15/06/2019 23:24

Not so far away in Essex (said Es-ix 😉) we would also say
Nor- idge.

BringOnTheScience · 15/06/2019 23:29

Nor-itch or Naaar-itch

Now try Wymondham, Hautbois & Happisburgh Grin

Fairylea · 15/06/2019 23:31

Nor ridge

I’m fairly local. Everyone says it differently!

Orchidoptic · 16/06/2019 00:49

Windum. My favourite place name in the country Grin

DoraleeRhodes · 16/06/2019 01:34

As well as Wymondhsm and Happisburgh in the pronunciation games try Cotessey, Cley and Roughton.
