Fuck!!! I’ve just woken up with conjunctivitis on the morning of a job interview.

I have red, gritty feeling eyes and I look ridiculous. No gunk....yet.

Is there anything that I can do or buy to sort this?! Interview is in a fairly remote place at 8.30, so I think I’m stuck for real pharmacies Sad .

I’m so gutted Sad. Try as I might, it’s really going to affect my confidence.

6 years down the line I’m in the job + a couple of promotions where I went to the interview with conjunctivitis. Still have no idea who the third person in the room was though as I couldn’t see them properly.
You will be fine - it’s you they want to interview- they won’t mind about a poorly eye.
On a practical note - the sooner you can get eye drops the better!

AnthonyCrowley · 14/06/2019 06:51

Bathe it with some salt water until you can get proper drops? So boil some water, put in a saucer, add salt and let it cool. Cotton wool, different bit of cotton wool for every wipe. Wipe from inside to out.

Good luck.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 14/06/2019 06:53

And I'd also mention it to them - otherwise they'll be wondering or it might look like you've stayed up all night!

Randomnumbers7483 · 14/06/2019 06:54

Have you got any anti-histamine eye drops? That may buy you a bit of time and lessen the redness a bit ? You obviously will need the proper antibiotic ones as soon as you can get to a pharmacist though!

WarmthAndDepth · 14/06/2019 07:09

Best ever remedy for conjunctivitis when no medication is available: treat it with fresh wee (your own, obviously). Wash vulva, collect small amount of wee in clean container, use small clean utensil to drip wee liberally into the eye.
I used this method a few times when living in India, and it would clear it up really well. The relief was instant, and the redness would subside quickly.

Bubblysqueak · 14/06/2019 07:19

Use a cooled teabag to bathe it with. It will stop the itching and reduce the redness.

Livingthedream12345 · 14/06/2019 07:22

Second vote for tea bag.
The pharmacist told me to use this for my daughter...the drops didn't work.

confusedandemployed · 14/06/2019 07:25

You can get chloramphenicol OTC so get to a pharmacy.

Good luck today.

@WarmthAndDepth that is really interesting! I'm a martyr to conjunctivitis. I wonder if I'd ever have the guts to try this.

Caffeto · 14/06/2019 07:28

Some pharmacies are open quite early - worth googling your area to check.

Failing that, cooled teadbag and a decent antihistamine should help in the meantime, and take care not to touch your eyes.

Caffeto · 14/06/2019 07:29

Oh, and best of luck with your interview Flowers

ShowOfHands · 14/06/2019 07:33

Conjunctivitis usually needs no treatment. It's going to become antibiotic resistant if people treat it at the first sign of it. Most cases will self clear.

Be honest at the interview. DH vomited halfway through an interview and still got the job!

Hoggytat · 14/06/2019 07:34

Brazen it out. Ring them to warn them you have conjunctivitis and make a joke that they're not going to forget you. Then go give a fan interview, them knowing you're not up to par but are handling it well will impress.

Hoggytat · 14/06/2019 07:35

Windygate · 14/06/2019 07:44

My DSF who was an optician used to treat conjunctivitis when we got it it with cooled black tea on cotton wool or even a cool damp teabag. Very soothing .

Notmyideamovingon · 14/06/2019 07:50

It's usually viral please don't start off with the antibiotic drops. It will run it's course naturally. Very unpleasant admittedly. Good luck with your interview!

WipeYourFeetOnTheRhythmRug · 14/06/2019 07:53

A quick google will show putting urine into your eye is NOT a good idea!!

Good luck with your interview!

costacoffeecup · 14/06/2019 08:22

Oh God don't put wee in your eyes. Just tell them and do the interview. Best of luck!

KnittingForMittens · 14/06/2019 09:11

Turmeric. Make a paste with a tiny bit of water and wipe around your eye. It will most likely stain it yellow though and will sting a bit due to the grain but it really helps with inflammation as t was turmeric that cured my conjunctivitis, not chloramphenicol.

chamenanged · 14/06/2019 09:16

You really can't be going about telling people to put piss in their eyes at 7am Grin

Please OP, don't put piss in your eyes Shock

emwithme · 14/06/2019 09:27

Do you know anyone who's breastfeeding? A quick squirt may help.

(Or cooled boiled water would probably be easier)

ShowOfHands · 14/06/2019 10:39

Don't put anything yellow or brown or secreted from your genitals or lying about in the pantry in your sore eyes fgs. Keep them clean, don't share towels and feel better soon.

WarmthAndDepth · 15/06/2019 01:19

Hm, feel like I have tainted my username now checking in hopefully to see if OP has taken sage advice. But it really has helped me in the past Grin

Crunchymum · 15/06/2019 06:21

How did the interview go? I'm hoping you didn't turn up with a pissy eye? Grin

Breast milk has always been the go to cure for me my breastmilk on my kids

Everyone who was saying not to use drops, when school age kids have conjunctivitis they aren't allowed back until they have started the drops Confused

QOD · 15/06/2019 06:35

Wee. In your eye?
I just KNOW I’d be that cack handed twat who’d somehow end up with a pube under my eyelid
