Fuck!!! I’ve just woken up with conjunctivitis on the morning of a job interview.

I have red, gritty feeling eyes and I look ridiculous. No gunk....yet.

Is there anything that I can do or buy to sort this?! Interview is in a fairly remote place at 8.30, so I think I’m stuck for real pharmacies Sad .

I’m so gutted Sad. Try as I might, it’s really going to affect my confidence.

I like salted boiled then cooled water - but nice and soothing if it's still warm.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 15/06/2019 07:24

Ahem. Urine-scented, turmeric-yellow eyes ain't going to get you the job!

Cooled teabag might help and remember if you need to wipe your eyes, do so from the inside out to the corner, one wipe, one direction and then discard cotton wool. Prevents spreading the bacteria and making things worse.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 15/06/2019 07:25

Just realised that this was yesterday's thread... wonder if OP's interview went okay?

Treacletoots · 15/06/2019 07:27

Sorry, a day late but lavender oil clears up Conjunctivitis within 24 hours. Tried and tested. Dab around the outside of your eyes.

I have just giggled so much at some of the responses on here. Urine, turmeric and breast milk?! if OP wasn't breast feeding was she meant to find somebody who is and ask them for a squirt? 😂

EchoLimaYankee · 15/06/2019 10:29

Fear not, I didn’t put wee in my eye or go begging for someone to squirt their breast milk in my eye. Although imagining both of those did give me a good laugh when I was feeling rather grumpy!

I’m sure everyone is hanging on to the edge of their seat here Grin. I washed them out with cooled boiled water and then went to Tesco for eye drops. Found ones that promised to counteract redness, ignored the ‘for hay fever only’ warning and liberally poured them in to my eyes. It looked a lot better for the interview. I did tell them though. Whether having a baby (with said conjunctivitis) is better than partying as an excuse remains to be seen.

Dear god the number of potentially dangerous remedies on this thread is a bit scary. Ive seen a huge number of patients who’ve followed advice on the internet to treat things like conjunctivitis and ended up with either huge reactions or changes to their vision.

The only thing you usually need to do with conjunctivitis is bathe with cooled, boiled water with a teaspoon of salt added if you like. Nothing else from your kitchen cupboards will treat it any faster. Gritty tumeric could leave you with a corneal abrasion and lavender oil?! You might smell nice and at least the conjunctivitis means your eye’s already red and swollen so you won’t change too much.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 16/06/2019 00:42

When do you find out? Fingers crossed!

ShowOfHands · 16/06/2019 15:51

Everyone who was saying not to use drops, when school age kids have conjunctivitis they aren't allowed back until they have started the drops

This is not public health advice or good advice. Some schools do insist upon it I know but some don't. It's dangerous really. We are going to have real problems with eye infections.

Good luck op! And I hope your eye is feeling better.
