What is your secret that you waste money on?

We must all have one thing that we secretly treat ourselves too... or waste money on.... for many women it seems to be shoes or a nice handbag etc.
Me? I waste my money on flight upgrades

What about you?

I suppose whether £400 is a lot depends on the length of the flight and what you get extra for the money. Long haul, definitely worth it.

A friend was offered an upgrade at the desk on a flight to Asia for £250 and she dithered in a 'it's such a luxury and unjustifiable indulgence I'd feel too guilty' sort of way before thinking 'sod it, I can easily afford it and almost never spend money like this on myself' and she said it was the best £250 she'd ever spent.

I was offered upgrades when checking in online on two connecting 1 and 1.5 hour flights within Europe for about £35-40 each and I was strongly tempted so I could try out business class, but I'm glad I didn't bother as when I got on the plane, there was just a curtain separating what looked like normal seats with slightly more legroom than standard, which were fine anyway and I think you might have got slightly more food and drink, but it was only a one hour flight and you got a drink and a sandwich in standard class anyway. So really not worth the extra, except maybe for the novelty of being able to say you'd flown business class.

@SilentKarateMums oh god, me too! 🙈

Rainbowknickers · 14/06/2019 11:15

Charity shops-I spend soooo much money on clothes from them-then give them back when I’m bored of them it saves/costs me a fortune

WeCameToDance · 14/06/2019 11:40

Jewellery. Particularly rings. Dh tells me that I will become Mr T before long, I think he's joking he tells me he's serious. I just bought a jewellers style case to display them in. I just like looking at them so much!

Coffee but not take out, instant. The amount of jars I get through a week is probably becoming a concern to my health. I should probably think about cutting down.

Also beauty products that I seldom use. I will feel less guilty about that now though as looking at this thread shows me I'm not the only one.

Eating out in Cafes.

@mycatismeowican

* 😮 you paid £400 for a flight upgrade!! £400 would allow me to renew all our passports or buy two months groceries and school uniforms for September.*

Yes it would also probably build a water well in Somalia to provide water for thousands of suffering children, but not really the point of the thread!!

Plus £400 is a bargain for a decent flight upgrade!!

Amibeingdaft81 · 14/06/2019 11:58

Thought of yet another one...

Art. Budget goes out the window when I see something I love

Amibeingdaft81 · 14/06/2019 12:17

@nyu82

goodness you have had a reversal of fortune if you can afford those treats! I randomly you remember you from previous threads as I wondered what your user name stood for and if you were someone I knew

mycatismeowican · 14/06/2019 12:24

ambi I wouldn't know If it's a bargain . I'm not rich-posh.

Hardly the point of the thread though

Amibeingdaft81 · 14/06/2019 12:26

No, not at all
My point exactly!

jillybeanclevertips · 14/06/2019 13:56

Looking at the lists of others, I don't think I'm too bad. I do tend to accumulate a lot of household cleaning products, as the area under my kitchen sink shows. Other than that, mine would be wine, (But thats what A.A. is for) craft products, and potential craft projects, I try to keep myself to 3 pending projects only. Which is things like furniture to strip down and refinish, so space is always at a premium. Nothin unhealthy or of concern.

nyu82 · 14/06/2019 14:32

Time. I really love taking 10 minutes to do absolutely nothing. With us both working and a small DC it feels incredibly indulgent.

I am too lazy to have any big purchasing habits-I don't want more stuff I have to look after /readjusts hairshirt

Lozz22 · 14/06/2019 19:00

@smokyburgandy me too!! I even collect the receipts and use the £1.99 voucher code off them so I can get them without feeling too guilty!!

Tammyxxx · 14/06/2019 21:16

Squirrel26 · 14/06/2019 22:12

Real books, kindle books, audiobooks. If I read or listened to books non-stop for the rest of my life I probably would not run out. Blush

Horses. I’ve not yet quite spent more in a month on riding than I have on the mortgage, but it’s been close.

IhaveALooBrush · 14/06/2019 22:17

ASOS.
The day they stopped the rewards vouchers was a dark day indeed.

Secondhand books. I love the charity 50p book stalls in supermarkets.

SimplySteveRedux · 14/06/2019 22:17

OOAK teddy bears!

Teacher22 · 14/06/2019 22:24

Due to being pretty poor in my childhood I am almost unable to splurge on anything ( I have panic attacks when I spend a lot) but I often buy books for a penny on Amazon.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 14/06/2019 22:27

Not really a secret, but been collecting the Harry Potter Lego mini figures and just started the Disney ones.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 14/06/2019 22:28
