What is your secret that you waste money on?

We must all have one thing that we secretly treat ourselves too... or waste money on.... for many women it seems to be shoes or a nice handbag etc.
Me? I waste my money on flight upgrades

What about you?

Make up and beauty products and chocolate

ihatethecold · 13/06/2019 20:34

I want to see the Japanese stationary mentioned earlier.

Mine are plants, especially flowering cottage garden ones. Not really a secret because my dh is just as bad.

Truzza · 13/06/2019 20:34

Camper van! I bought a camper van!
And dresses....

EdWinchester · 13/06/2019 20:41

I don't think it's waste per se.

But my mum would baulk if I told her how much I spend on fancy candles, or restaurants or facials.

Money well spent, imo

LoveBeingAMum555 · 13/06/2019 20:54

A while ago DH and I agreed we would take packed lunches to save money. Once a week I buy a sandwich from the expensive deli near work. Only once a week mind. It tastes sooo good.

Norfolkenchancemate · 13/06/2019 21:08

@itisalladream handbags, coach handbags to be specific, I've just purchased another one, and shoes, specifically Havianas flip flops, ok when they're in Costco at £13 inc the vat, not ideal when they're £25 a pop and I have at least 30 pairs...
Also, I seem to waste an inordinate amount of money on shite off eBay that I'll never use nor did I ever need. Wink

Despacitoburrito · 13/06/2019 21:13

@Shoxfordian it’s called Spotlight on style. We have Just gone public again today and are accepting new members. But there are rules to be followed...I am sometimes surprised at how many...like two kids and two jobs isn’t enough crap in my life Grin

AllTheGlitter · 13/06/2019 21:19

@bertiebotts I have the same secret obsession! I love any foster Carer books!

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 13/06/2019 21:23

Petrol. Most days I take a detour down a dual carriageway that I don't need to be on, just to drive fast and lift my spirits a little. I suffer with depression and anxiety and for some reason it makes me feel better after work. If I don't go for a drive most days I have a considerably shorter fuse. It does double my petrol usage though and I wonder about the wear and tear on my little car.

Bi polar mania spending sprees Sad

Tupperwarelid · 13/06/2019 21:31

Running gear, I have more leggings and t-shirts than I will ever wear and skincare products. I’m a sucker for buying stuff I see being used and recommended on instagram.

SpanGransNo1Fan · 13/06/2019 21:41

Posh tea and coffee at home - I feel cheated when out for a coffee if it’s not as nice as my coffee machine at home. It’s not a secret though and my friends often come to mine instead of meeting at a coffee shop because of my lovely coffee machine!

TwoEEs · 13/06/2019 21:51

Yes @toastfiend
I'm Lottie and Lysh obsessed amoungst others 😍

Ilovelblue · 13/06/2019 21:57

Elsie1966 · 13/06/2019 22:18

Township gets too much money from me Hmm
Shoes and nice clothes ( can't resist Joe browns )

Jencottage · 13/06/2019 22:26

@toastfiend may I possibly purchase your DS' outgrown scandi / homemade garments pretty please ? I'd love to clothe my 4 week old baby DS in a similar fashion, knowing that I'm getting them secondhand - good for the planet & my wallet Grin !

Cherrysoup · 13/06/2019 22:28

Shoes. I have a lot but regularly give them to charity. I have size 9 or 10 feet and I think it might be easier just to put them in a glass cabinet or something in the lounge. The ones I like rarely fit.

nyu82 · 13/06/2019 22:32

Travelling first class...treating friends anonymously...
Very expensive HANDBAGS!!!
Michelin dining and investing in pre-Michelin establishments
I am very fortunate..
and thankful

MentalButGentle · 13/06/2019 22:32

It just dawned on me yesterday, as I realised I was subconsciously trying to sneak in yet another throw without DH noticing, that I keep buying throws. In different patterns, colours, textures and thicknesses.

Sofa throws
Chair throws
Bed throws
And each sofa/chair/bed has a rotation of different throws according to the season/my mood. And when one is in the wash, because neither a sofa, chair nor bed can ever be without a throw at any time!

I don't know why I keep wasting my money on them. I'm normally Miss Sensible with money.

Jencottage · 13/06/2019 22:33

We've just spent nearly 60k on our garden, it's not huge but it was a mess and we chose an amazing landscape company. I love it but it's excessive. My other vice is good ingredients for home meals.

PoppadomPeach · 13/06/2019 22:45

Oh I've thought of some more.

Hotel suites.
Massages
American Sweets/Drinks/Groceries
Scarves

nyu82 · 13/06/2019 22:47

carriecakes80
when we had very young children we used to do the same...grabbing 15 minutes together with a tub of Hagen-daaz was how we stayed sane..Belgian Chocolate saved the day...
Don't dismay...it does get so much easier...Good Luck..

spellingtest · 13/06/2019 22:55

Skinade - a daily vitamin drink costing £3 a day

Botox

Fillers

Mulberry handbags

spellingtest · 13/06/2019 23:01

@Lauzy86 I wish I only had 20. I've got over 120 plus teapots, dogs, cats, plates, serving dishes. It's a hideous amount of money but I use them so sort of justified. You have great taste!

dellacucina · 13/06/2019 23:08

I hate having more stuff to manage, so all of my luxuries are consumables.

  • I will buy any new gluten free product that I see
  • Fancy chocolate
  • Lunch at work every day (but it's a subsidised canteen!)
  • milk delivery in glass bottles
  • takeaway coffees a couple times a week, though I have been trying to bring my own
  • fancy nut butters that I tell myself are for DD, to ward off potential allergies

I have been spending loads on therapy lately, and am telling myself it's worth it though the cost is possibly causing me as much stress as the therapy relieves

I occasionally drop a lot of money on a theatre event or a weekend away
