What is your secret that you waste money on?

We must all have one thing that we secretly treat ourselves too... or waste money on.... for many women it seems to be shoes or a nice handbag etc.
Me? I waste my money on flight upgrades

What about you?

OP posts:

I don’t think any of these things are a waste of money if you get enjoyment out of them and they make you happy.

Whosorrynow · 12/06/2019 22:18

Dontdribble I used to be sooo into making clothes I wish I could get the enthusiasm back, I have an overlocker and a regular sewing machine but I just can't find the motivation anymore 😕

CakeNinja · 12/06/2019 22:20

Me too definitely!! What did you buy? Grin

Fooferella · 12/06/2019 22:57

stayathomer · 12/06/2019 23:18

Jesusinthecabbagevan I don't get it, you're saying that people themselves liking something that can be seen as a stereotype is stereotyping?

stayathomer · 12/06/2019 23:20

Jesus Im sorry, I rtft but misread the OP. I get you now, sorry

babyno5 · 13/06/2019 00:02

Regularly:

  • gel nails and microdermabrasion at local salon
  • Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing product range (lady at the department store counter knows me)
  • Waitrose sushi
  • Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate
  • bubble tea
  • Teapigs

Most recently:

  • Siberian goose down pillows and duvets from The White Company
  • £799 on John Lewis garden sofa
luckygreeneyes · 13/06/2019 06:04

Oh god, reading this makes me realise it’s way too many things and I need to cut down...

Gel nails once a fortnight
Shoes - sorry to be a stereotype, not quantity but I buy expensive
White company towels and sheets
Cosmetics that I mostly don’t use
Clothes for the kids - they have waaaaay too much
Taxis
Eating out- I reckon behind the mortgage this is our biggest household expense and the reason that clothes for me aren’t on the list

BoogleMcGroogle · 13/06/2019 06:27

Nothing is a waste of money if it gives pleasure and joy. Joy can be hard to come by sometimes so I reckon it's best to get it where you can.

My 'wastes':

Probably too many clothes, but for the first time I can remember, I feel grown up and even a little bit stylish.
So many books.
Family membership at the British Museum, even though it's free. It's such a special place, and the members room feels like a temple of calm.

Our whole family 'waste of money' is that we, kind of secretly, own a chalet in The Alps. We ski and walk there and it's our kids' favourite place. We tell people it is DFIL's ( which it was). But it's actually ours' now and we are currently renovating it into something gorgeous. It feels like a complete indulgence to have taken it on, but it was too special to let it go.

TakenForSlanted · 13/06/2019 06:36

Taxis.

Just can't be arsed to wait around for a late bus when it gets past 10pm these days. I could and it'd be cheaper. But I'm happily paying for the pleasure of not being freezing and soaked nor having to schlepp my heavy bag through town on foot.

Bezalelle · 13/06/2019 06:40

Japanese stationery - origami paper and washi tape. So much fucking washi tape.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 13/06/2019 06:46

Dr Martens
Acrylic Nails
Pens
Rayban sunglasses. Told DH I'd bought a pair, I'd actually bought 2. He wouldn't care anyway and I don't feel in the least guilty, I have worked lots of overtime recently but it still seemed extravagant so I lied.

luckygreeneyes · 13/06/2019 06:49

I forgot books, I travel a lot for work and have a habit of buying 2 ( always a get one half price offer)

WhoKnewBeefStew · 13/06/2019 06:55

Molton Brown handwash

I've now started to but expensive good quality clothes, rather than F&F, 2 Barbour jackets last year, and I'm now lusting over a designer handbag

dontwanttoadmit · 13/06/2019 07:14

Name changed as so ashamed.

Down clothing

EggWrap · 13/06/2019 07:43

Feeding the birds. Sunflower hearts, nijer (?) seeds, fancy fat treats etc!
My darlings never go without, and I love watching them.

Deathraystare · 13/06/2019 07:56

Texas the Psychic Horse. He contacts people’s dead guinea pigs in the afterlife!

Cool! I am glad someone does!!!!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 13/06/2019 08:01

PregnantOnPurpose when my anxiety and depression take hold, I waste a scary amount of money on the National Lottery website, talking hundreds of pounds.
You can block yourself from doing it, through the settings you can take a break for X amount of time from a week to permanently (I’m currently on a 6m break) and try as I might, I cannot work out how to get around it, so I can’t spend the money. Maybe give that a go x

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 13/06/2019 08:08

@CakeNinja Grin

I bought the iconic London ready set glow, Josh Rosebrook face mist, a Drunk Elephant serum duo, Nudestix blusher, Milk makeup bronzer and a few new samples of skincare.

What about you??

myusernamewastakenbyme · 13/06/2019 08:42
