Alabama to castrate pedophilles

A law has been passed for mandatory chemical of castration of sec offenders who abuse children under 13 before they can be released on parole. On the one hand I’m pleased for obvious reasons but on the other I’m not sure I can approve of governmentally forced medical procedures on principle. Thoughts?

If they locked the perverts up and threw away the key, then they wouldn't have to resort to this sort of thing, would they?

RuffleCrow · 11/06/2019 19:57

It's fair enough. The day paedophiles give a shit about the harm they cause children is the day I'll give a shit about them being castrated.

[[https://codes.findlaw.com/al/title-13a-criminal-code/al-code-sect-13a-6-65.htmlBiological females can commit rape under Alabama statute]]. It's not a crime requiring a penis (in Alabama).

Best thing for them is 🔫.

Just finished watching Top Gear the episode filmed in Alabama, Clarkson said of Alabama folk "

Jeremy:
They really do have an irony deficiency here. I can honestly believe that in certain parts of America now, people have started to mate with vegetables.

bobstersmum · 11/06/2019 20:26

Nah, anyone doing anything sexual with a child should be stoned to death imo.

Stompythedinosaur · 11/06/2019 20:29

I'm opposed to any sort of state enforced medical procedures, so I oppose this too.

It is also not at all clear it works, and means that those with the ability to pay get a lesser punishment.

Moominfan · 11/06/2019 20:32

I'm really struggling to muster up and sympathy for sex offenders. I think it's fantastic

MitziK · 11/06/2019 20:33

Won't work.

Abusers are perfectly capable of abusing when they have erectile dysfunction or low testosterone.

Rapists are perfectly capable of raping when they have erectile dysfunction of low testosterone.

They still have the equipment to abuse. As not only do they still have their genitals, they still have their hands and their heads.

I wrote about this before on here. I watched a documentary about a pedophile priest who got elective chemical castration to cure himself. He said it didn’t help as the urge/attraction to children didn’t go away.

MattMagnolia · 11/06/2019 20:40

Sexual appetites, like those for food or alcohol, are controlled by the brain. A castrated dog will hump or mate and I have heard that castration does not stop a man’s interest.

pessimisticstateofperception · 11/06/2019 20:47

Absolutely should not happen.

On an emotional level I would like them all shot, but the law should never work on emotion.

It won't solve anything and is another step Alabama are putting in place to have rights over people's bodies. I don't know where it will end over there, but it won't be any place that's good.

AnnaMagnani · 11/06/2019 20:48

Does it work though?

Sexual abuse isn't just about erections. It is about viewing material on screens, planning and grooming, manipulation of people over time and many other things. For some it is about violence and control not sex.

None of those require the ability to have a sexual urge or an erection.

Queenofmyownheart · 11/06/2019 20:52

A step forwards in the right direction I'd say.
