I have realised from another thread that I have lots of old fashioned items in my house. These include -

net curtains
curtains
a nest of tables
a landline
a magazine/newspaper rack
a dining table and chairs

What about you?

Are net curtains old fashioned? I have them.

I have a guard on my fireplace. Have to have it or the cats like to explore the chimney.

Bakelite door knobs.

singymummy · 11/06/2019 17:12

A nest of tables and dinning table and chairs are old fashioned??? How exactly?
I have both and I'm mid twenties with a fairly modern house by most standards.
How strange Hmm

CremeEggThief · 11/06/2019 17:13

A calendar on the wall.
A clock on the wall.
A landline phone (almost always unplugged. Only my mum rings it, after texting me about it first).
A TV set with in-built DVD player, but no Sky box, firestick, streaming services, etc.
A gas cooker (hob and oven).
Bars of soap.
A few DVDs.
A Walkman.
A few cassette tapes.
A digital camera, that's about 10 years old.
A few non-digital wrist watches.

Ivegotthree · 11/06/2019 17:13

Books
A landline
Sloe Gin
Laptops

CremeEggThief · 11/06/2019 17:14

What is a fireside companion set and a cornice brush? I'm 41 and I've never heard of these.

EggysMom · 11/06/2019 17:15

When did gas cookers become old-fashioned?

pinkcardi · 11/06/2019 17:16

TroysMammy · 11/06/2019 17:17

A peacock chair
A radio/cassette/cd player
Wooden comode. That's my DP's find and it's in the living room Confused

LuckyLuckyWoman · 11/06/2019 17:19

husband! :)

I have quite a lot of old fashioned things because the house is old and modern just wouldn't look right

CherryPavlova · 11/06/2019 17:20

Too many - most of our things probably but not sure it’s old fashioned or just not bowing to trends.

Fish kettle - no other way with a whole fish.
Cloth napkins
Landlines. We would anyway but no mobile reception here.
Curtains definitely- how do you make rooms cosy otherwise?
Grandfather clocks
Aga but it’s programmable so quite modern really.
Canteen of cutlery for entertaining.
Decanters
Sloe gin isn’t old fashioned.
A pantry.
A wine fridge
Bars of soap definitely
A preserving pan.
Storm lanterns outside.
My husband
Trifle bowls

Bluerussian · 11/06/2019 17:20

Apart from me and husband :-), I have:

a bureau that belonged to husband's grandmother
a landline
my dining table and wall unit are from late 1970s, beautifully made of rosewood but looks old fashioned now, not that I care
two cats, mother and daughter, aged 19 and 18.

Peachsummer · 11/06/2019 17:21

A dining table and chairs are old fashioned?Where do people eat if they don’t have a table?

Sorry but loads of these things are essentials. Curtains and books! Who doesn’t have those?! And surely fireside companion sets are soaring in popularity as more people install log burners.

AlunWynsKnee · 11/06/2019 17:22

Proper ticky clocks plus dining table, land-line, vinyl, books and clock radio.
I also have a little analogue radio in the kitchen tuned to Radio 4.

Bluerussian · 11/06/2019 17:22

No! I forgot, the mother cat died a couple of months ago. Shows she is still with us in many ways.

Her daughter is very much alive (and I do have another cat, a male, who is about eleven and not fashioned).

AlunWynsKnee · 11/06/2019 17:23

Oh and a small TV.

REDCARBLUE · 11/06/2019 17:24

I have a companion set as i have a real fire to clean out. Not a modern, silly looking fake fire you switch on and get nothing out of it.

Dining table as we like to sit as a family.

jennymanara · 11/06/2019 17:24

Also alarm clock
clocks on walls
bone china for guests
wooden canteen of silver cutlery for guests
decanters
2 lava lamps

OP posts:
DontTouchMyCurls · 11/06/2019 17:26

Video player and videos
Stag bedside cabinets
Turn dial telephone
Bookcases filled with books
Writing paper and matching envelopes
Glass perfume atomisers

pinkcardi · 11/06/2019 17:28

Forgot:

  • decanters, silver and silver (sadly inherited)
  • linen napkins and tablecloths
  • shoe trees
  • starch spray
  • beeswax furniture polish
  • shower caps
  • video player
  • pocket watch
  • tinned fruit

On reflection we're definitely old before our time Smile
