Consummate professional, handles all the pop master contestants smoothly, so gentle with Susan Boyle - but he really can't stand Jeremy Vine can he!

We used to listen to radio 2 at work but recently switched. I liked KB but not keen on JV - he always comes up with idiotic phone ins based on an unusual news story, that you know only apply to 0.0005% of the population, most of whom won't be listening to him "can your pet rabbit complete a sudoku or a cryptic crossword?", or similar. Or some gruesome medical discussion... at lunchtime! Not keen on SW either but the JV impressions did make me laugh!

annonymousse · 05/06/2019 15:56

🤦🏻‍♀️ completely missed that the trailers were impressions. I dip in and out during my working day when I'm doing visits.

iklboo · 05/06/2019 16:31

They are still bloody annoying though Grin

Ken Bruce hasn’t died then

BertsFriend · 05/06/2019 16:51

I'm another fan of Ken Bruce, I love his show and I also suspect that he doesn't like Jeremy Vine (might just be because I don't though).

Jeremy Kyle, Jeremy Hunt, Jeremy Clarkson, Jeremy Corbyn...

Just pondering that I don't much care for the name Jeremy now that I think of it.

IrmaFayLear · 05/06/2019 16:59

Ha ha, BertsFriend. Are there any nice Jeremies?! Because now I come to think of it, I can think of a couple I don't like in real life...

Ken is brilliant at Popmaster, being polite to shy and nervous contestants, and sniffing out those who "suddenly" remember the answer at the end of the 5-second timer (you can almost hear them googling) and praising truly knowledgeable people. Stand-ins are invariably crap. Trevor Nelson the worst. He clearly has no "Popmaster" knowledge himself and was stumbling over the names of old groups. You need to be a Popmaster to compere Popmaster. Gavel!!

weleasewoderick22 · 05/06/2019 17:07

I love him too and miss Lyn. I'll be gutted when he retires 😩

GatherlyGal · 05/06/2019 17:14

I agree. Shit jokes but still somehow very easy to listen to.

Steve "love the show" Wright however I cannot bear. How many years has he been churning out mediocre crap every afternoon? And as for the serious jockin or whatever it just gives me the rage. The sycophantic entourage are just as bad.

I'm far too old for it but prefer radio 1 to Steve Wright. Or classic FM or fingernails on a blackboard.

BringMeTea · 05/06/2019 17:20

❤️ Ken.

Jaspermcsween · 05/06/2019 17:23

Ken is amazing
I have to remember to turn over to him at 9:30 - can’t abide the presenter on before him. ( won’t name , don’t want to be unkind )

Must look out for the JV thing. Can’t say I’ve noticed it before

freshstartnewme · 05/06/2019 17:28

I love Ken Bruce. His is the only R2 show I listen to now. Gary Davies did a better stand in job last week than anyone has in a long time though, was very impressed.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 05/06/2019 17:32

Surprised at the Lyn love, she drove me potty.
I gave up listening, I may tune in if she's gone.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 05/06/2019 17:57

Fully paid up member of the KB fan club here! He's so pleasant, clever and witty.

Agree about SAW, though... time he was pensioned off.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 05/06/2019 17:57

*SW

iklboo · 05/06/2019 18:07

SW's cronies give me the rage. Especially the hysterical laughing at something not funny.

Uncle Ken, on the other hand, is wonderful.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/06/2019 18:18

Love Popmaster. Don’t mind Ken Bruce, he seems lovely but the majority of the music he plays seems to be about forty years old.

I realise I am in a minority but I love Steve Wright. The Jockin’ thing is annoying, the music is dreadful but I like his banter and chat.

cakesandphotos · 05/06/2019 18:36

I also love SW. and his cronies Smile

Mythreefavouritethings · 05/06/2019 18:36

I love Ken. I think it’s just his dry sense of humour, and Jeremy sounds a bit on the naive side sometimes so I take it as a bit of light ribbing.

BedraggledBlitz · 05/06/2019 18:41

Lovely reassuring Ken. I love his sense of humour, he seems like a good person.

Steve Wright is fuckin' awful. (No g).

DuggeesWoggle · 05/06/2019 18:45

Listening to Ken Bruce is like putting on a pair of battered old comfy slippers and curling up with a mug of hot chocolate. You know exactly what to expect but it's comforting and reassuring and you know you're in safe hands. A bit like Sir Terry - gentle humour, never making outright fun of anyone.

Steve Wright on the other hand is a massive bellend who just loves the sound of his own voice, thinks he's the funniest person who has ever lived and loves to surround himself with vacuous sycophants. And don't get me started on 'serious jocking'.... Yes I put the g on Steve Hmm

tomtom1999xx · 05/06/2019 18:45

Lyn has gone. ( must admit I wasn’t over keen on her ) but absolutely love Ken.

SmarmyMrMime · 05/06/2019 19:04

I love Ken. I'm struggling with recent appointments at R2, but Ken is a solid piece of easy comfort. Gary Davies did well last week as I usually find Ken's stand-ins painfully inadequate.

He does have a similar dry, self-depricating sense of humour to the dearly missed Sir Terry, and that's probably what posters are picking up on the 11:30 slot as Jeremy Vine's pace and tone are quite different. It's a well established handover for 15+ years.

I like Jeremy Vine too. I'm sure I have a different JV and Vanessa to the rest of MN. I think Jeremy handles his callers well. He was clearly deeply moved during the recent interview with the parents of the girl who died of the sesame allergy from the Pret sandwich. He tends to cut politicians down well when required and respond appropriately to public callers. Vanessa is an instant switch off with her ridiculous gushing over the guests, and struggles to remain impartial in serious discussion. At least I can usually sleep happily over her 5am slot Grin

Any more dodgy appointments and I'll be switching to Saga before I'm 40 Grin

Mac47 · 05/06/2019 19:22

Can't bear ken, he is deeply unamusing. I can't listen to r2 until 5 pm now, shocking daytime line up. Glad the vapid lyn has left, equally unamusing. Team Sally forever.

JockTamsonsBairns · 05/06/2019 20:05

I love Ken too, easy listening with a dry but gentle sense of humour. I've also noticed the friction between him and Jeremy Vine at handover, quite passive aggressive sometimes!

iklboo · 05/06/2019 20:06

Speaking of Sir Terry, I got DH a couple of the Janet & John CDs from slot he used to do. Howling laughing at them.
