Have a dentist appointment soon so getting ready took 2 paracetamol ahead of it as helps the discomfort. Then put my glasses on and realised I'd taken 2 sleeping tablets (Boots Sleepeze 1 a night ones) I can't safely drive to dentist when these kick in- do I cancel or get a cab? Ah fuck, should I call the NHS thingy re the accidental double dose?

This is the patient information leaflet here which says to seek medical attention if you overdose.

I'd call 111 about the overdose, and depending on whether or not they want to see you, cancel the dentist or take a taxi. You may well get charged if you cancel, though.

wowfudge · 04/06/2019 09:58

Ring the dentist's for advice. The tablets are antihistamines a side effect of which is drowsiness.

Take it from there but don't drive.

Wherearemyminions · 04/06/2019 10:04

Called dentists to explain and they were lovely, they have waived cancellation charge . Did the 111 thing online and waiting on a call from them now. Had so much planned today feel such a muppet :(

@Wherearemyminions just call 111 - you'll get a response much quicker than waiting for a call back

gamerchick · 04/06/2019 10:12

I very much doubt you've got anything to worry about from a double dose OP. Try not to panic about it.

Bummer for your day though, are you in a position to have a snooze?

Kahlua4me · 04/06/2019 10:19

Can you ring your gp surgery for advice? Ours has an acute clinic every day which you could use in this case.

Senseofself1 · 04/06/2019 10:30

I don't think that amount of anti-histimine will cause you any harm - just tiredness.

Fresta · 04/06/2019 10:41

Seeing as you took them in the day, I doubt they will make you very sleepy- some people take this medicine for allergies and other stuff, not just sleeping. Mind over matter.

Babyduck3 · 04/06/2019 10:53

I wouldn't worry too much, You have to take a lot of something to overdose!

userxx · 04/06/2019 10:56

I wouldn't worry too much, you wont be overdosing.

3luckystars · 04/06/2019 10:57

Are they just herbal things?

Bunnyhop1502 · 04/06/2019 10:57

Clear your schedule OP and have a snooze. I did this once. GP prescribed me antidepressants to help with IBS cramps. I took two thinking they were paracetamol and fell asleep at work. Boss had to give me a lift home 🙈

TheFaerieQueene · 04/06/2019 10:59

They are just old school antihistamines. A double dose, as long as the OP doesn’t have any other underlying conditions, should be fine.
I expect the OP is having a little 💤

HomeMadeMadness · 04/06/2019 10:59

Oh don't worry OP, easy mistake. I once very almost took a double dose of sleeping pills instead of paracetamol at a motorway service station while alone with DCs.

RosaWaiting · 04/06/2019 10:59

Bunnyhop, you mean tranquilisers.

OP, I can't get to sleep on those pills so really it depends how you respond to them, but 2 antihistamine isn't an overdose, don't worry.

Divgirl2 · 04/06/2019 11:01

As others have said, you'll be fine. People take up to 400mg of the stuff as prescribed dosages for various ailments. You'll be tired and you're going to feel like crap for a few hours once you wake up but you'll be okay.

This will be a funny story in a few weeks.

Kummerspeck · 04/06/2019 11:04

You will be fine, it is really hard to overdose on antihistamines. You may be drowsy but anything else is unlikely

myDHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling · 04/06/2019 11:07

On another note, what a strange idea to take paracetamol before going to the dentist.

OneHanded · 04/06/2019 11:14

Glad they were so kind! Rest easy and sleep well Grin

Hecateh · 04/06/2019 11:14

It's a shame you cancelled.
The antihistamines would probably not make you sleep - just a bit drowsy during the day. You would have been very relaxed in the dentist chair and then could go home and have a snooze until the numbness wears off.

S1naidSucks · 04/06/2019 11:30

We’ll probably not hear from the OP for the next 20hrs. zzzzzz

Bunnyhop1502 · 04/06/2019 12:09

@RosaWaiting no I don’t mean tranquillisers. I mean I was prescribed Sertraline, an antidepressant, to assist me in coping with IBS-related symptoms, mainly pain.

Gardai · 04/06/2019 12:18

I take nurofen before I go to the dentist as I find it eases the pain and the dentist is fine with it.

thefuriousfuggler · 04/06/2019 12:29

That's lovely for you Gardai but this isn't what the OP has done.

RosaWaiting · 04/06/2019 12:32

Bunny so that helps people sleep? I have raging insomnia.

sorry for the derail OP.

fuggler Gardai was answering the person who was puzzled about the paracetamol. I'm off to the dentist today and I'm going to take nurofen as well!
