Best Fictional President?

With Trump visiting I was thinking how much greater it would be if Tom Kirkland from Designated Survivor was actually the president. Who would get your vote?

Bartlet for America!

Propertywoes · 03/06/2019 21:22

Bartlett!!

ShittensAndKittens · 03/06/2019 21:24

Jed Bartlet. Absolutely without doubt. I too am seriously jealous of anyone who has yet to watch The West Wing. It's the best television show I have ever seen.

His first appearance on screen in the pilot episode? Perfection. His rant at Jenna Jacobs in S2E3? Amazing.

TheWaiting, the episode 'Two Cathedrals' at the end of season two, oh my god. It was stunning. I've seen it several times and have seriously had a proper goosebumps, tears in eyes reaction every time.

DPotter · 03/06/2019 21:26

I agree Bartlett for America!
I decided upon the election of the latest POTUS that I would watch The West Wing all the way through every year as an antidote to the news.
It doesn't get old..............

Recently got into Madam Secretary with Tea Leoni and she's shaping up OK, not as good as Jed, but definitely has potential.

MrsKCastle · 03/06/2019 21:29

Jed Bartlett, absolutely. Thought of him as soon as I saw the title. Nice to see I'm in good company!

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 03/06/2019 21:30

Yes DPotter !! We love Madam Secretary.

HerculesMulligan · 03/06/2019 21:31

Bartlett for America!

MrsKCastle · 03/06/2019 21:33

My 2nd choice would be Thomas Whitmore- Bill Pullman in Independence Day.

Warmhandscoldheart · 03/06/2019 21:34

Another vote for Bartlett, how could he fail with Rizzo as his First Lady Smile

CharminglyGawky · 03/06/2019 21:38

The one I'm Stargate SG1 who tells Anubis (stupidly powerful and dangerous alien) to fuck off Grin

Or the one in Independence Day who gets that awesome speech, again before attacking aliens Hmm

TheFallenMadonna · 03/06/2019 21:39

Now, I love Jed Bartlet, and him being a smug know it all is perhaps what I love the most, but the Jenna Jacobs rant and comments after were both smug and self righteous (when I stand, nobody sits) which was just too much.

I also loved Arnie Vinick (Santos also a tad prone to self righteousness).

But yes, Dave! Sorting out the buget with his accountant.

drspouse · 03/06/2019 21:40

Adding to the massive support for Jed Bartlett.
In fact, whoever was the political advisor to that show.... WE NEED YOU.

Whatsetshortfor · 03/06/2019 21:43

Hands down Jed Bartlett

RosaWaiting · 03/06/2019 21:45

I'm another one who didn't realise there was anyone to choose from apart from Jed Bartlett!

SinglePringle · 03/06/2019 21:55

I try and pretend Jed Barlett IS POTUS.

amusedbush · 03/06/2019 21:59

I’ve also never seen the West Wing. Is it on any streaming service?

I second President Palmer in 24 though Grin

IndianaMoleWoman · 03/06/2019 22:00

President Selina Meyer, of course! Terrible but hilarious.

TheWaiting · 03/06/2019 22:35

I saw a guy in a pub about 2mths ago wearing a black T-shirt that said

Bartlet For America 2020

I actually achingly sighed and thought, if only... Sad

Hadenoughofitall441 · 03/06/2019 22:39

Kiefer in designated survivor hands down 👌🏼

TheWaiting · 03/06/2019 22:41

@TheFallenMadonna, you see, I think he says, ‘In this building, when The President stands, nobody sits.’ So I always take it as him pointing out that not only is she a stupid bigot but also that she lacks respect for The Office as it were.

Piffpaffpoff · 03/06/2019 22:41

Bartlet obvs. Although Selina Myer would be hilarious.

InTheEndgameNow · 03/06/2019 22:42

President Palmer would get my vote.

cheercaptain · 03/06/2019 22:43

President Palmer in 24

TheFallenMadonna · 03/06/2019 22:46

Oh yes, it's all about respect for The Office of course. Like Debbie Fiderer keeping her job because she had called him President Bartlet while talking about poisoning him or whatever it was.

Still don't like that bit.

TheFallenMadonna · 03/06/2019 22:48

I don't like him in the pilot either. Same reason. But he grows into his smugness as it goes on.
