Does anyone have a washable/easy dry bedspread they use instead of a duvet and duvet cover in summer?

We have a super king and wash the duvet cover every third night

It’s a total PITA remaking it at the best of times but now we have a really thin duvet for summer it’s worse- getting the duvet in the cover is like the Krypton factor!

Was just thinking if there was such a thing as a nice lightweight bedspread that didn’t need a cover and I could wash and dry in a day it would be ideal.

Anyone got one?

We just have a flat sheet for really warm nights, it's perfect.

Stiffasaboard · 02/06/2019 23:23

Hmm yes I have one of them we could try but not sure it’s quite that warm yet

I’d just use the duvet without a cover but it won’t fit in the my washer unfortunately

Use the duvet cover without the duvet inside?

Yes, just use the duvet cover, that's what we do too.

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2019 23:34

Every third night?!

Soola · 02/06/2019 23:37

We have two of these but it’s out of stock at the moment. One on and one off/in the wash.

No cover needed and they wash easily and dry quickly.

FakeTanandProsecco · 02/06/2019 23:38

I bought one as a student from Primark 10+ years ago and it's still going strong! It's the size of a double duvet so fits inside a duvet cover nicely, at the moment we use it like that and then when it gets a bit warmer use it without the cover.
Dunelm often have nice ones in which aren't too unreasonable, i do keep meaning to buy another as it's been so handy for us!

milkysmum · 02/06/2019 23:38

Why on earth are you having to wash every 3rd night? What a faff.

whatisheupto · 02/06/2019 23:38

Don't wash it so much?! Jeez, does it really need washing every 3 days?

LizB62A · 02/06/2019 23:46

I just use a duvet cover

floraloctopus · 02/06/2019 23:49

I just put a duvet cover inside a duvet cover.

Stiffasaboard · 03/06/2019 00:05

Good ideas here thank you!

I wash it every third or fourth night as I get night sweats (thank you menopause)

floraloctopus · 03/06/2019 00:29

I bought an ethical feather duvet and the night swears stopped. So did the sweats.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 03/06/2019 00:31

Flat 'top' sheet underneath duvet, wash that every 3 days?

Know what you mean though, just one thing that's light enough to give some warmth and thin enough to fit in a washing machine. Gap in the market!

QuestionableMouse · 03/06/2019 00:35

I use a flat sheet between the duvet and me. I also have some really nice woollen blankets to use if it's really cold (on top of the duvet) or warm (on top of just the sheet.)

CaurnieBred · 03/06/2019 00:39

Google quilted bedspread. I have one that is over 20 years old (either Debenhams or John Lewis, can't remember which) that comes out every summer. Don't even have to iron it

DontCallMeShitley · 03/06/2019 00:46

I use a flat sheet and a fleece or cotton throw on top. A cellular blanket is also good underneath the throw in case of a cooler night.

Stiffasaboard · 03/06/2019 06:54

I find a flat sheet really fiddly underneath a duvet- always gets all tangled up and the duvet would still need washing when I get a
Night sweat.

I’m really after a sort of thin washable duvet I think that looks ok without a cover on it.

The super king size is a problem tho.

Maybe two singles would be better?

OP posts:
LoafofSellotape · 03/06/2019 07:31

We have 2 singles on a super king as I like a thin duvet and dh likes a thicker one.

I like the look of the M and S ones up thread but not the colours.

Alfr · 03/06/2019 07:39

I've got one of the Night Owl ones, but my God is it hot! I've got the 4.5 tog one, and I sweat buckets under it!

orangeshoebox · 03/06/2019 07:42

yes to 2 singles.
that way you can just change the sweaty side if needed more often.
when it's really hot we use just the duvet covers.

LoafofSellotape · 03/06/2019 07:44

The UK is a bit behind the US with this sort of bedding!

Loopytiles · 03/06/2019 07:47

We have a couple of washable quilted cotton spreads from somewhere like John Lewis or Muji, reckon around 3 tog?

Love Dunlem Mill!
