What's your go to 'easy to make but bloody delicious' pudding or cake type thing?

I feel this is something I'm missing from my repertoire. Shop bought desserts can be disappointing yet I often don't want the faff of making something that takes more than 15 mins to prepare.

I feel this is probably where Nigella's books excel.

Any suggestions will be gladly tested! Smile

Dame Blanche, good vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, crispy biscuits.

Bananas Foster, sliced banana gently softened in a small frying pan with butter and soft brown sugar, keep the heat low. Serve out portions of vanilla ice cream. Pour a good slug of rum into the hot bananas, stir briefly and quickly spoon over the ice cream.
Eat immediately, hot toffee sauce, cold ice cream....wonderful!

Champagne float, a scoop of lemon or strawberry sorbet in a wide wine glass, top the glass up with Champagne (or Prosecco).

Olive oil chocolate mousse. Could not be easier.

Thank you for all these great suggestions! So many delicious ideas. I think I'm going to trial one a week.

First I think I'll try the ginger lemon snap thingy that @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius and a pp mentioned (I do love anything with condensed milk. oh yeah) or maybe the brioche pudding that @ProfessorofPerspective linked to.

And I love the idea of making a huge vat of crumble mixture and freezing it. Why did I never think of that!

Oi! Some of us out here are trying to lose weight! Condensed milk? Cream? Sugar? Ice cream? Shock

Jamhandprints · 01/06/2019 21:47

Chocolate cheesecake is so easy to make and way nicer than shop cheesecake:
Crush up digestives, mix with butter, put in cake tin, chill.
Whisk 3 tubs of Philadelphia with a big bar of melted chocolate. Put cheesy mix on base.
Decorate with a pile of chopped chunks of your favourite chocolate bar in the middle. Crunchie, mars or Maltesers could look good.

Nigella’s chocolate brownies from Domestic Goddess (this is different from flourless ones mentioned above).

This blogger wangs on about expensive chocolate but I find anything works.

Good old fashioned sherry trifle - no jelly though!
Sponge base soaked (preferably overnight) in sherry.
Fresh or defrosted frozen mixed berries.
Ambrosia custard.
Whipped double cream.
Fresh raspberries / blueberries/ flaked almonds to top.

Raspberry and chocolate blondies. So easy to make, but so delicious!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/06/2019 21:56

Takes ages in the oven but pavlova is really easy and delicious!

Ooh the Self Saucing Lemon Pudding is lovely .

Baked cheesecake - I add pecans and chopped pieces of toffees.

Chocolate Brownies - have to ponce them up with ice-cream/cream and chocolate sauce .

The Challenge :
( got this from Debbie Greenwoods page on QVC when she was a presenter)
Chocolate digestive and melted butter base
Condensed milk (not the ready carmelised one , you have to boil it yourself) toffee layered on
Malteasers pushed into the toffee
Melted Mars Bars on top.

Let it set . The Challenge is to eat more than a slice . You can not .

takemetomars · 01/06/2019 22:21

going to try some of these!

BestIsWest · 01/06/2019 22:37

Does anyone remember ‘biscakes’ where you dipped gingernuts very quickly into sherry then covered them with whipped cream?

freshasthebrightbluesky · 01/06/2019 22:51

Cba to type it all out so took a picture of the page in our recipe book (we write all the recipes we've tried, like and adapted so we can make them again).

It's called parkin in the original recipe but it's more like a very moist ginger cake and is delicious, especially if you make 2 and sandwich them together with ginger buttercream.

Chocolate bread and butter pudding. It’s a Delia recipe and I get requests for it every time I invite people to dinner. The best thing is it’s better if you assemble it and refrigerate the day before then just put it in the oven for 40 mins when you serve your main course. Easy peasy.

MsMustDoBetter · 01/06/2019 23:19

Eton Mess.

CherryPavlova · 01/06/2019 23:20

Pavlova is really, really easy.
Ice cream sundaes are fun and popular- peach Melba etc.
Baileys bread and butter pudding in winter.
Banoffee couldn’t be easier.
Brownies with good ice cream
So many.

Nigella easy sticky toffee pudding

RagingWhoreBag · 01/06/2019 23:26

Haven’t read the whole thread but I see a lot of Nigella already! My go-to is her Holiday Hot Cake, a sticky self-saucing sponge with cinnamon/ginger syrup. It’s amazing!!

Gottoloveabagel · 02/06/2019 07:31

BBC good food self saucing jaffa pudding.

I use a cheap bar of 30p dark chocolate instead of chocolate orange and if I've no oranges in the house I'll just use 4 tbs orange juice!

0DimSumMum0 · 02/06/2019 07:48

Tarte Tatin. I made a plum one and it was an absolute show stopper, super delicious yet so easy.

Butter melted in a frying pan, plums halved and placed cut side down, sprinkle with sugar and heat until caramelised, then a shop bought puff pastry sheet over the top and placed in the oven.

IHeartArya · 02/06/2019 07:56

Sponge pudding

Plastic 2 litre microwaveable container

Place syrup, jam or marmalade at bottom of container

Mix together 4oz each of self raising flour, sugar & butter add 2 eggs & pour into container.

Cover with pierced cling film & microwave for 4 minutes

Take out & turn into dish & eat.

Dead easy

Bubblysqueak · 02/06/2019 08:03

Eton mess, the food of god's. You can even cheat and buy meringue.

HoppityChicken · 02/06/2019 08:04

Growing up it was take one Mars Bar and chop it up, melt in saucepan with a bit of milk to make a sauce. Take one tinned pear half, lie on it's back in a bowl, make vanilla ice cream ball with ice cream baller and place in the dip in the pear, pour over Mars Bar sauce. A light sprinkling of chopped nuts to garnish. Envy of our street.
