Worst Parenting I Have Seen!

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2019 18:42

I was just driving home and whilst stationary at a set of traffic lights I noticed in my rear view mirror a child in the front seat of the car behind. I noticed her because there was smoke coming from her window which was down. My first thought was that her mum was smoking in the car which would have been pretty shitty but no, the child who I swear was no older than 11 was vaping! Then another child appeared from the back who sort of lent forward between the two front seats and she was also vaping. The second child looked to be around the same age as the first. As I pulled away the mother and both girls were all vaping!

Dear God, what sort of parent would allow this? If this isn’t shit parenting I don’t know what is! .

Not that this is an excuse but I’m guessing they are nicotine free vapes and just being fashionable

Ravingstarfish · 31/05/2019 18:46

My aunty used to buy lambrini and cigarettes for her 10 year old daughter, I find it pretty disgusting to be honest Sad

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2019 19:37

They may well have been nicotine free but what parent would seriously allow a child to do this? I had no idea this could be seen as fashionable. I’ve never seen it before and hope I never see it again!

My mums friend used to look after her 2yo niece and give her draws on her cigarette Sad
3yo getting out the car for nursery in the morning swigging a can of Red Bull (it was ok it was sugar free).
Irn-Bru and Coke in bottles frequently

Soubriquet · 31/05/2019 19:45

Yes. There was a huge trend for them that actually saw a rise in youths “smoking”.

There are all sorts of flavours like bubblegum, so I can see why they are tempted

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2019 20:00

I guess I can understand teens doing it but I can’t get my head around children doing it and, more shockingly, their parents allowing them to do it 😡

That is horrible and I’d be judging away like crazy. I wonder, did they have those ‘baby on board’ type stickers..?

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2019 20:57

@MissClareRemembers I’m not sure about the stickers, I could only see the front of the car 😀

There's a massive scene. A friend's 14yo son recently asked her if he could 'start vaping' for his birthday. He's a non smoker. She made her feelings known....It's a thing.

A disgusting, disturbing 'thing'.

EvaHarknessRose · 31/05/2019 21:16

Big tobacco companies behind a lot of vaping brands looking for new lifelong customers Sad

scarecrowhead · 31/05/2019 21:19

Parents letting their child touch an electric fence around a zoo enclosure and then laughing when they got a (luckily mild) shock. Warning signs everywhere

Glitterkitten24 · 31/05/2019 21:22

One of my neighbours daughters had a baby about 2 months ago.
I’ve seen her be a passenger in a car twice with the baby in her arms, not in any form of car seat.
A 2 month old baby.
I try hard to not let other people’s decisions annoy me but I am judging, hard!

IndianaMoleWoman · 31/05/2019 21:23

I saw a man in the driver’s seat of a car with a pre-school aged boy on his knee. The boy was steering the car. This wasn’t for a few seconds in the corner of a car park , it was on a dual carriageway at 40 mph. I guess the man could grab the wheel at any moment but neither of them had a seat belt on so even a minor accident could’ve been fatal.

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2019 21:52

My God, I thought I was pretty unshockable but some of these stories are unbelievable.

No these are very shabby parenting but far, far from the worst.

PodgeBod · 31/05/2019 22:36

I was in traffic a few months ago and behind me was a woman with 3 boys under (at a guess) 10, all bouncing about with no car seats or seat belts, and she was smoking. I was shocked.

CanYouHelpFindThis · 01/06/2019 02:31

I will never ever forget when i saw a woman on a bicycle in the road, wearing a helmet.

Child about 2 in childs seat behind her ( No helmet)

Then a newborn baby STRAPPED TO HER CHEST in a carrier.....

I couldnt believe it.... Why, just why!!!

I often see parents on bikes with a helmet and the child in the child seat without one. Gives me the rage!!!

justilou1 · 01/06/2019 03:24

This just makes me want to cry...

KioreWahine · 01/06/2019 03:41

I once saw a kid of about 10 lying in the open boot of an MPV being driven along the beachfront road near us. The boot was open because there was a paddle board or similar sticking out and the kid was holding the rope. He was on the flat bit so no lip of the boot to keep him in. An emergency stop would have sent the kid onto the road.

We couldn't get the rego cos it was on the boot which was in the air.

DD is almost the only kid in her class who still uses a car seat and we are considered weird. She is 10 but the height of an 8 year old. Most parents stopped at 7.

Sewrainbow · 01/06/2019 08:54

I saw a child throwing stones at a fish in the the shallow stream running through bourton on the water, they're camouflaged in the gravel. His dad took the stone off him, I thought to tell him off - no it was to show him a better aim and threw it himself! Angry

Babyduck3 · 01/06/2019 09:12

Some of these are so sad :-(
When my daughter was at nursery they had a Easter bonnet parade, all the children turned up with decorated hats, all so proud of them, overheard one little boy asking his mum why he didn't have one and she replied 'because your not a little fucking puff ok' My heart sank for him!

IvanaPee · 01/06/2019 09:21

A one year old baby drinking a bottle of coke around tesco.

I had to tell the parent of a four year old in my dance class that she wasn’t allowed to have energy drinks!

About 7 kids crammed into a small car. Standing/sitting everywhere.

A small child on a motorbike. No helmet.

The worst thing, and it still sticks in my head; we were in the zoo and this family appeared, woman dressed smartly dropped kids with parents outside. About an hour later, we saw them again. Mam and dad absolutely strung out this time.

It was winter (there was an event on.) All their coats had disappeared. The children weren’t too bad, they were running around. But he had a baby on his shoulders whilst he was stumbling around. Bad enough but the child was in a flimsy babygro. It was freezing.

I couldn’t leave it. I went over and offered something to wrap around the baby. Not a coherent sentence between the pair of them.

I actually ended up calling the local police station (and I’m not one of those ring 101 for no reason types).

Thankfully they sent two gardaí and they left with them. One of them took the baby and wrapped him/her in his coat.

It was desperately sad and I still think about them.

mindproject · 01/06/2019 09:25

Terrible. I feel very sad for them. I once met a boy of 10 who had a real tattoo; we were very shocked.

BambooB · 01/06/2019 09:28

Bloody people. Some just shouldn't be parents x

ScreamingValenta · 01/06/2019 09:33

Not bad parenting in its time, but this thread has reminded me of the 70s/80s practice of children travelling in the back of an estate car - i.e. the boot part, not the back seat - sprawling on the shelf and looking out through the rear window.

How shocking that seems now, but it was totally normal 40 years ago.
