Now I know the Grand National and Big Dipper have been there since Gods Dog, my own DF who is 85 was recollecting stories of riding them In the 50's and how 'bone shaker' they were then....

But NOTHING can have prepared me for the experience.

And they actually look in parts like old pallets and crates nailed together....

With bits missing!!

Any recollections??

Camelot, now there’s a whole other thread! It’s abandoned now. Is there anything creepier than an abandoned theme park? I’ve been dying to get in for years, just to look at all the derelict King Arthur stuff.

MarthasGinYard · 31/05/2019 00:42

NC4

I've just been looking on an abandoned theme park site loads of pictures loaded.

Amazing

Would love a mooch

The rollercoaster we could see is still fully intact apparently

Roller Coaster riders travel from all over the world to ride the wooden coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach as it's deemed to be a more authentic experience. The tracks are checked every morning. I owned a house close by and we could hear the Alice in Wonderland ride very clearly. Visitors would always ask about the music but I became oblivious to it. We could also hear the screams from the roller coasters.!

The steeplechase for the uninitiated...

Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blimey!!
managedmis · 31/05/2019 01:04

Yes, pie kebab, it's in a little display cabinet

Like, Wtaf?

Is it still there?

managedmis · 31/05/2019 01:05

Is that steeplechase even legal? Are they pinned in?

managedmis · 31/05/2019 01:06

Camelot is abandoned????!!

I've lived abroad too long

Time40 · 31/05/2019 01:06

*Apparently was 'Camelot' theme park in Lancashire

Now furiously googling that aswell*

I found some really good photos of that on an Urbex site, Marthas (not tonight, ages ago). It looks to have been a weird place.

managedmis · 31/05/2019 01:09

Crikey you lot don't lie

Time40 · 31/05/2019 01:11

Is there anything creepier than an abandoned theme park?

No. There really isn't. Sadly, I've never managed to get into one. I'd love to, though. I have managed to sneak into a couple of closed-for-the-season parks ... they were both extremely unnerving (in a good way)

Hidingtonothing · 31/05/2019 01:14

Another twister fan here, I always go on when our local fair comes and DD is just hitting the age/size where she can come on with me so reckon that gives me a few more years grace yet before I have to stop Smile

Time40 · 31/05/2019 01:16

I'm never stopping, Hiding. Not until my body makes me. I love them too much.

Papergirl1968 · 31/05/2019 01:17

Happy memories of the Funhouse when I was a kid.
We had a great weekend in Blackpool a couple of years ago, staying in the Big Blue Hotel with Pepsi Max virtually within touching distance of our bedroom window.
Amazingly Steeplechase is still going, with little lap belts. It goes scarily fast and is rather jerky, not that I’ve been on for about 35 years.

PivotPivotPivottt · 31/05/2019 01:33

I'm going to Blackpool in a couple of months so was looking at the rides online to show my daughter a couple of days ago. I'm definitely not as brave these days, straight away I thought no chance will we be going on the SteeplechaseShock. I remember as a child I would only go on the Grand National if my step dad sat next to me as he would put his arm over me to stop me bouncing off the seat! Cat and Mouse ride always felt like the cart was going to fly off the edge can't say I'll miss that ride. I believe Rollercoaster has had a makeover and renamed? The one with no safety harness Shock. I find it sad that's been changed tbh. Avalanche I just can't get my head around even though I loved it when I was younger. I can't wait for Alice and Wonderland it's my favourite ride at the Pleasure Beach. Also came on to ask if the clown is still there my oldest daughter is going to hate itGrin

I just looked at some pictures of the abandoned Camelot and my stomach was churning the whole time. Absolutely terrifying. Why have they not torn it down? I’m travelling up the M6 in the summer, I fear if I see the coaster on the horizon I may have to stop on the hard shoulder to vomit Envy

Moongirl10 · 31/05/2019 02:40

Grew up in the area, loved the Grand National, Rollercoaster and log flume. When I was young I rode my first ever coaster at BPB - the Zipper Dipper 😂 I thought I was so brave!
No way would I go on Steeplechase now, that thing is so unsafe but I didn’t seem to mind when I was a teenager and trying to beat my mate’s horse 😂

Shinesweetfreedom · 31/05/2019 02:52

What about the log flume. And when you came off right in front of you was the doughnut and waffle kiosk.Log flume not there now

EnidButton · 31/05/2019 03:00

I remember going on some rickety fast thing that felt like it was about to fall to bits. Reading this, it could've been any of them but I was pretty young (12ish?) so maybe it was the cat and mouse one rather than steeplechase. Although I'm guessing they wouldn't care about age limits in the 80's/90's tbh.

I'm was quite fond of the laughing man/clown but I'm sure he never looked that terrifying!

Butterymuffin · 31/05/2019 03:01

The conspiracy theory about the Fun House makes sense as I remember spending hours in there as a kid on the death slide. And yes the clown / policeman thing was creepy AF.

Camelot's been closed for ages! Surprised there's any of it still standing.

UrsulaPandress · 31/05/2019 03:15

Dd is 19. Every bloody year when she was at prep school they used to go to Camelot for the end of year trip. I have an hilarious photo of her taken on the log flume with eyes like saucers.

There was a programme on the local North West recently about Camelot. Not sure if someone was trying to buy it.

EnidButton · 31/05/2019 03:30

The laughing man/clown that I remember is the one that burnt down with The Fun house. Found this slightly weird pic of the head being rescued by a fireman. Even in that state it's not as creepy as the current one.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blimey!!
MLMsuperfan · 31/05/2019 04:03

I reckon the laughing clown did the arson.

Sparklingbrook · 31/05/2019 04:53

Ooh the Steeplechase. Brilliant and terrifying in equal measures. Plus the bruises next day were spectacular. I want to go again!

TenSheets · 31/05/2019 05:38

I used to love Camelot

Iris1654 · 31/05/2019 05:50

I Watched a documentary that included Camelot.
I think it had a drone flying in...
Very creepy
