So Iv handed my notice in and next Wednesday is my last day. I’m on WTC etc and get dla and carers allowance due to having a disabled son hence why Iv had to stop work.

Should I apply today (last full pay slip was yesterday) or should I wait until I wait until 29th June when Iv had. My last, albeit small pay slip?

OP - not sure the advice you've received on this thread is completely correct. Visit entitledto.co.uk to check what you will get.

If you get severe disability premium - you've said higher rate DLA - you cannot claim UC at the moment. You will however be able to claim ESA in addition to your existing benefits although you will lose your WTC.

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 07:06

High rate care of dla is for my son, not me wow.

Pressed post too soon

If you don't get severe disability premium, you should use entitledto to check whether you would be better off on UC or not. If you are better off on UC, you should claim straightaway - there is no advantage to waiting until your last small payslip. You pay date will be one month and one week after your claim and then it will always be on the same day of each month. You may want to take this into consideration regarding your DDs.

This advice is from someone I know who works for UC.

Checking re: the higher rate dla for your son.

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 07:22

I’ve applied now anyway. Everything indicates I’m better off on UC, Iv only been stressing as everything I’m my life has a tendency to go wrong so I tend to think ‘of it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ to try not to add anymore stress! Oh well it’s done now other than the verification.....

@Inbedbynine if you click 'I can't do this online' it gives you an option with lists of I'd to select then the phone number at the end

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 07:30

I can see a phone number for the post office verification dept? I’ll call them. It’s annoying. It says the passport has been verified it’s just the ‘selfie’ causing the problem!

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 31/05/2019 07:36

That's not the number. When it asks you to verify your id online there's an option to say you can't. You might have to go back a step

kaytee87 · 31/05/2019 07:37

Not sure how easy it is to go back. I always select can't do it online for clients as the success rate for online isn't great in our LA

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 07:41

Oh yes it says ‘book an Id interview at a job centre’. Will that literally just be to take my proof of id, they won’t do that at the same time as the other stuff so I will have to go twice?

OP posts:
wowfudge · 31/05/2019 07:41

The answer is that your son getting the higher rate DLA won't affect your ability to claim UC.

kaytee87 · 31/05/2019 07:46

As long as you ask for both verifying id and interview with work coach when you phone that will be fine. I've never had anyone having to go twice

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 07:54

Post office just emailed to say it’s all done....

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 31/05/2019 08:05

That's good then :)

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 08:09

Despite it being verified and it saying on UC that it’s verified it’s still saying I need to go to an evidence interview???!Angry

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 31/05/2019 08:11

Yeah... that's why I never bother verifying online for customers. You have to go in anyway.

Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 08:12

Oh now daring ‘attend an interview’

OP posts:
Inbedbynine · 31/05/2019 08:28

saying. All booked for next week!!!

Well done OP!

If you'd have read all the back story (it's long!) you'd have realised that the OP is in fact better off claiming UC Smile

wowfudge · 31/05/2019 10:15

I missed that post AnotherEmma - thanks for the put down.

AnotherEmma · 03/06/2019 19:08

How are you doing, OP?

(wowfudge, I wasn't putting you down! Confused)

Inbedbynine · 03/06/2019 20:50

Hiya. Yeah ok... still stressing but out of my hands now! Off to the job centre on Wednesday. Tax credit is due this Thursday and housing ben next Tuesday... I’m praying I don’t owe them money. Do you trunk tax credit will stop the payment due Thursday?

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 03/06/2019 20:54

I'm not 100% sure I'm afraid but as tax credits are paid 4 weekly you will still be due to receive something on Thursday. You will probably need to call the tax credits helpline when you have your last payslip and they will do a final calculation to work out whether you have been over or underpaid. Meanwhile the UC claim will end your tax credits claim, I'm just not sure how quickly it all goes through with their automated system. Sorry I can't be more helpful on that question!

Inbedbynine · 03/06/2019 21:02

That’s ok. I think I will ring them tomorrow as well as once I had my last pay slip. It’s going to be a looooong month!

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 05/06/2019 20:21

Did you get on ok at the job centre today?
