How annoying are hot tubs?

I want to buy one for the garden. But they are quite noisy aren't they? Will I annoy the neighbours? We live in a terrace. What would be acceptable usage do you think?

we change the water every 3 months

Every 3 months! Sitting in 3 warm water that has been there for 3 months. That's disgusting.

BaffledEdna · 28/05/2019 13:02

Sorry don't know where that random 3 came from.

BogglesGoggles · 28/05/2019 13:04

If you live in s terrace it would be downright inconsiderate unless you have a very large garden and you could stick it at the bottom where your neighbours won’t have to put up with it.

mummyhaschangedhername · 28/05/2019 14:58

@BaffledEdna --- yes, I sit in water for the entire 3 months, I'm actually a mermaid 🤫

Seriously though, how often do swimming pools do entire water changes, our water is filtered, we use several chemicals to maintain the water and the recommendation on our hot tub is every six months, assuming you adhere to the maintenance. Husband tests the water a few times a week and adjusts as needed.

I was just looking at holiday lodges with hot tubs and wondering how many people have had sex in them and if you’re not having sex in them what’s even the point? Grin

PCohle · 28/05/2019 15:16

My PIL's neighbours had one and the hum was definitely audible and very irritating. Even more irritating was the constant shrieking and splashing their kids made. To be fair their parents shouted at them constantly to keep it down but that frankly just added to the cacophony.

streeeemline · 28/05/2019 15:45

I assume all those posters pearl-clutching about hygiene have never used a public swimming pool, then? Because I guarantee there's a hell of a lot more shit, piss, hair and skin cells from strangers in one of those than there is in my hot tub.

And if they make you feel unwell / uncomfortable then chances are the temperature is set too high. They're not saunas.

THIS could potentially be us

A friend of mine hired one for a month to see if she'd like it, could you do that?
She decided not to have a permanent one in the end.

GladAllOver · 28/05/2019 17:38

I'd never thought of having one, but the mention of having sex in it makes it sound a lot more interesting.

gobbin · 28/05/2019 17:47

Oh dahling, so very, very common.
Seems to be a feature of many back yards and gardens in the south Wales valleys, thinking they’re all sophisticated and that. Hideous.

I would be livid if my neighbour had one with a pump running every day, even if for a short time.

Yes, I am a human-soup snob.

Oldraver · 28/05/2019 17:50

My next door neighbour has one right up to the fence and about 6ft from our patio and miles from her living room.

Its a blow up one and fucking hums dreadfully...then there is the 'giggling' when they are both in it

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 28/05/2019 18:07

We have one and love it! Use it loads.
It has a UV filter which kills the bugs so we can use minimal chlorine etc. It’s not noisy.
DH goes in every day to relax after work.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 28/05/2019 18:08

And there is no jizz in the jacuzzi!

BaffledEdna · 28/05/2019 18:38

@mummyhaschangedhername I didn't say you you sat in the water for 3 months, I said that the water was there for 3 months.

BaffledEdna · 28/05/2019 18:38

2 you's now! sorry!

BenWillbondsPants · 28/05/2019 19:07

Awful things.

ForalltheSaints · 28/05/2019 20:22

Seems an awful expense and a few spa visits a year would be better.
