What the heck is up with me and do I need to bother the GP?

For around the last week I've been feeling dizzy, had on and off nausea, no appetite, tired, emotional/weepy, and jittery/shaky like the feeling you get when you've had too much coffee, and a sort of discomfort in my left side near the bottom of my ribcage but even discomfort feels too strong a word for it. I feel like I'm coming down with something but it's been all week and the something has never arrived. My appetite came back yesterday and I'm not emotional now, I have more energy probably from now eating but I'm still dizzy and shaky/jittery and if I stand up for too long then I get little twinges from the left side non-discomfort.

I've googled it and Dr Google reckons I'm either pregnant or dying. Pregnancy is 100% not a possibility, DH is not only snipped he also works away at various times and the last two times he was away he managed to arrive home the same day as my period none of which have been missed. I would hope I'm not dying because so far I'm doing amazingly well at living and I'd hate to ruin my winning streak.

Anyone experienced similar? Hoping it's some weird bug doing the rounds. Obviously if I'm no better by Tuesday I will arrange to see my GP.

I was similar last year OP. Good news is I wasn’t dying, surprising news was I was nearly 4 months pregnant!!

SeaToSki · 26/05/2019 00:37

Go and get your thyroid levels checked. GP visit needed for that.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 26/05/2019 00:41

Definitely not pregnant, I'd be a medical marvel if I was!

Thyroid is a good call, I've looked it up on NHS website and fit many of the symptoms for over and under active so will ask the GP to check that out.

Thyroid, other endocrine issues, anxiety, kidney problems, definitely worth getting checked out. Don’t leave GP without getting blood tests!

MauisHouseOnMaui · 26/05/2019 06:46

Urrg, have woken up this morning with the discomfort now a definite pain that's got me holding onto my side. Was bursting for the loo so went and only managed to pass a dribble of what felt like liquid ground glass and made my side hurt even more. Lying in bed at the moment shivering and waiting for Out Of Hours to call me back with an appointment. I'm guessing UTI or kidney infection?

Hope you get it sorted OP Flowers

SallyWD · 26/05/2019 07:38

It definitely sounds like kidney problems. Hope you get it sorted.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 26/05/2019 07:38

It does sound like a uti. If you need to pee and are unable to though that's a medical emergency and you should go to a&e.

eurochick · 26/05/2019 07:44

Kidney stone maybe? Hope you are seen soon.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 26/05/2019 07:46

Out of hours have said to go to A&E. The doctor I spoke to said it probably an infection and it's probably that infection making me think I urgently need to pee, even though I don't, because I did a full wee but still felt like I needed to wee immediately after. Very hot now too and feel sick so fun day ahead! Just waiting for my mum to arrive to sit with the DC and then DH is going to take me over.

get well soon OP Flowers It does sounds like a UTI

Winglessvulture · 26/05/2019 08:09

Sounds like it could be kidney stones and/or a uti - one of the signs I get that my kidney stones are playing up is feeling a bit lightheaded and emotional. Glad to hear you are seeking medical help, hopefully you will be feeling much better soon!

Fairylea · 26/05/2019 08:11

Sounds like a UTI or kidney stone. Hope you get sorted quickly.

ColdToesHere · 26/05/2019 08:14

You poor thing. That sounds miserable.
I hope you get some answers soon x

MrsMozartMkII · 26/05/2019 08:18

Ouch and yuck lass

Hope you're better very soon.

rainbowstardrops · 26/05/2019 08:50

Hope the Dr can sort you out and you're feeling better soon Thanks

Rystall · 26/05/2019 09:02

Good luck OP. Hope you get seen quickly.

Could it be your appendix? Those symptoms sound familiar.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 26/05/2019 12:27

Home now. Sample tested positive for blood, white cells, and protein so with the pain been diagnosed as a kidney infection and given a week of antibiotics, got to follow up with own GP in a week to check another sample to make sure it's cleared up but fingers crossed these will kick in quickly and I'll be feeling more human in 24hrs or so.

Got a mini-lecture from DH about making time for my own health and a bigger one from the doctor but I honestly thought I was okay with self-care seeing as my symptoms were quite vague until this morning.

Thanks everyone Flowers

You poor thing. I hope antibiotics kick in soon. Contrary to the popular advice of drinking masses don’t go mad. I’m seeing on of the experts in the uk about chronic uti (privately in desperation ) and he says too much fluid diluted the effect of the antibiotics and that you can’t ‘flush out’ an infection with liquid.

Don’t worry if you feel or get sick today. I usually do but as soon as the antibiotics kick in there’s usually a big improvement. Hope you feel much better soon. Lower and upper uti are awful.

ColdToesHere · 26/05/2019 13:45

Poor you. Glad you’ve got some answers and I hope you start to feel better soon x

MrsMozartMkII · 26/05/2019 15:12

Echo the hoping the antibs kick in soonest lass.

And ditto your DH's and GP's advice!

Feel better soon Flowers

CigarsofthePharoahs · 26/05/2019 15:18

Hope you're ok op.
The last time I had AB's for a nasty UTI they turned my pee yellow and made me very spaced out.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 26/05/2019 16:55

I wonder if you had the ones I'm on Cigars, I've spent the last few hours asleep and had the weirdest dreams. Nitrofurantoin? Four times a day so due another dose soon, hoping to start feeling better once the first 2-3 doses are in.

OP posts:
CigarsofthePharoahs · 26/05/2019 21:12

I can't remember what they were called. I was told it was a "new protocol" of less pills but a stronger dose. Left me feeling very weird - and bright yellow wee.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 28/05/2019 14:29

Some of my symptoms have gone like the shivers, the fever, and the dizziness but the pain in my side is worse. It's constantly there and not painful but I'm aware of it, if I take a deep breath then it hurts a bit like a stitch and every so often it'll sort of flare up in pain like I'm being stabbed. They're now saying it is a kidney stone but haven't checked to confirm, and that it will pass in a few days but the pain isn't changing location which says to me that it's not moving anywhere and I have none of the other symptoms aside from this pain and being really emotional.
