What the heck is up with me and do I need to bother the GP?

For around the last week I've been feeling dizzy, had on and off nausea, no appetite, tired, emotional/weepy, and jittery/shaky like the feeling you get when you've had too much coffee, and a sort of discomfort in my left side near the bottom of my ribcage but even discomfort feels too strong a word for it. I feel like I'm coming down with something but it's been all week and the something has never arrived. My appetite came back yesterday and I'm not emotional now, I have more energy probably from now eating but I'm still dizzy and shaky/jittery and if I stand up for too long then I get little twinges from the left side non-discomfort.

I've googled it and Dr Google reckons I'm either pregnant or dying. Pregnancy is 100% not a possibility, DH is not only snipped he also works away at various times and the last two times he was away he managed to arrive home the same day as my period none of which have been missed. I would hope I'm not dying because so far I'm doing amazingly well at living and I'd hate to ruin my winning streak.

Anyone experienced similar? Hoping it's some weird bug doing the rounds. Obviously if I'm no better by Tuesday I will arrange to see my GP.

I thought they'd scan to see if it was a kidney stone.

Can you get back to your GP tomorrow?

MauisHouseOnMaui · 28/05/2019 20:08

I'm going to ring them first thing, shivers are back too and I feel sick.

Call 111.

Do you have anyone who could take you to A&E?

junebirthdaygirl · 28/05/2019 20:41

Kidney stone pain is horrendous and could come on really bad later so best be somewhere they can administer strong pain relief.

greenwaterbottle · 28/05/2019 20:44

I'd be ringing 111 now. Tomorrow is a long way away

GreenHatHacker · 28/05/2019 21:04

Make sure they check for gall bladder infection too. That's likely to hurt on right side, but all the other symptoms sound like what I had and I was misdiagnosed as kidney infection first. Might need a different antibiotic if so.

MrsAmaretto · 28/05/2019 21:22

Ring 111.

Your symptoms have changed between your post at 2pm & 8pm, so you need updated advice.

Hope you are better soon

CustardD123 · 28/05/2019 21:40

OMG the exact same thing happened to me where I was feeling nausea, teary, pain, etc for 5 weeks and antibiotics (I was given Nitrofurantoin too!) for kidney infection completely sorted it last week within a few days. I've never had it before so very surprised to see someone describe my exact symptoms (though oddly my urine dipstick test came back negative).

thaegumathteth · 28/05/2019 21:44

Call 111. Nitrafurantoin has never worked for kidney infections for me. DO NOT WAIT to call. I had vvvvv vague symptoms for 2 days but it was the summer holidays so ignored it only to end up with sepsis on day 3.

thaegumathteth · 28/05/2019 21:46

Get your dh to count your pulse and if possible respiratory rate. Heck out signs of sepsis - my main one was UNCONTROLLABLE shaking.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 28/05/2019 22:04

I've spoken to 111, the doctor there has said to take some of the naproxen I was prescribed yesterday and see what happens over the next few hours then they can see me at the walk-in with an appointment if needed or at my own GP tomorrow if not. Shivers have subsided and I've eaten without throwing up which are both positive improvements. I've had sepsis before so keeping an eye on things there too.

sorry to hear things still aren't right. I hope you can get seen soon and checked over properly

thaegumathteth · 28/05/2019 23:45

I’d be wary with the naproxen I was told that was bad for your kidneys particularly during an infection.

MrsMozartMkII · 29/05/2019 06:34

I hope you had a good night and that you're improving lass.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 29/05/2019 15:54

Saw the doctor again this morning. Wee sample is now clear of blood, protein, and white cells so no infection showing there, blood pressure and temperature are both normal although pulse is still a bit high. He doesn't think it's a kidney stone as the pain is in the wrong place and I have no other symptoms, he's booked for me bloods and then we'll see where we are when the results come back. If they pick anything up then that's a route to go down, if they don't pick anything up and the pain is still there then he'll refer me for a scan.

If it gets worse then present to a and e with suspected renal colic - kidney stones are shit
I’m just perfecting my 4th batch

MrsMozartMkII · 30/05/2019 23:30

I think that's good news, other than the pain is still there!

How've you been today?

ThePerturbedPenguin · 30/05/2019 23:35

Sorry you’re feeling so awful Flowers

MauisHouseOnMaui · 31/05/2019 06:36

I felt better yesterday than I have in almost two weeks, thank you for asking. Side still hurting but it's manageable with painkillers and, dare I say it, it feels a little bit better. I haven't had painkillers yet this morning and the amount it hurts right now is manageable, a few days ago that's how it felt after the painkillers so once I finish my food and can take this morning's dose I'm hoping it'll knock it down to almost nothing. I feel happier too and less like there's something horribly wrong with me.

That sounds very positive lass. Fingers crossed you're on the mend.
