Just a musing really. I lost my dad in December and a colleague of mine said to me " It's okay not to be okay". And it has stuck with me. Just Saturday evening musings what quotes help you get through! Another one is "Not my monkeys... not my circus" when at work 🙈 x

Surround yourself with people who are radiators and not those who are drains.

Talk is cheap / Actions speak louder than words.

It was only in my 30s that I really understood this and live by it now. It’s astounding how clear and simple things become when you judge people ( at work, socially, family, anyone) by what they do as opposed to what they say.

Also ‘the darkest hour is just before dawn’. This has been a comfort to me in tough times. Knowing that potentially, things are just about to get better.

I’m sorry for your loss @funsized.

"Accept what you cannot change." It's trite but it means I can "let go" of the stuff I can't do anything about and it really helps.

StCharlotte · 25/05/2019 20:16

And sorry for your loss OP Flowers

Que sera, sera...

What will be, will be.

It’s my advice that I give everyone who’s faced with woes and is worrying but cannot change what has happened or will happen.

My stepdaughter had it put on a trinket type bracelet for me. It’s called a Life Token.

My husband sometimes says to me, ‘Shine on you crazy Diamond!’ Grin

gggrrrargh · 25/05/2019 20:24

‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent’ - Eleanor Roosevelt. Always worth remembering.

GentleBen · 25/05/2019 20:26

This too shall pass.

Helps with the tough stuff and reminds me to savour the good stuff too.

You're as happy as your least happy child.

Be kind to the inarticulate and tolerant of the verbose.

In MN terms it just means roll your eyes at dickheads Grin

Pearlfish · 25/05/2019 21:03

For me it's the serenity prayer:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

Peta11 · 25/05/2019 21:03

"You deserve the love you keep trying to give to everyone else"

" you cannot be everything to everyone"

" if you can't help someone at least dont hurt them"

"No reaction is a reaction. Sometimes silence is louder "

TSSDNCOP · 25/05/2019 21:05

My best friend had a postcard over her desk at Uni that said "we must have courage, faith and chocolate fudge cake". We used it often over the years of our friendship.

When she died aged 46 I wrote it on a card to her daughters.

Also "never eat yellow snow"

Per ardua ad Astra. It's the motto from The RAF, it means through adversity to the stars. It was said to me by a friend who was serving when I was going through a tough time and it's stuck with me for years Smile

VeryLittleOwl · 25/05/2019 21:08

Damaged people are dangerous, they know they can survive. - Josephine Hart.

My father died after a lorry ploughed into his car when I was 18 (over two decades ago now). I always think if I got through that year I can get through absolutely anything.

Even the smallest spark shines brightly in darkness.

If you're going through hell, keep going

Winston Churchill.

Very apt for my life right now

We are all in the gutter
But some of us are looking at the stars.
