Which quotes have meaning to you?

Just a musing really. I lost my dad in December and a colleague of mine said to me " It's okay not to be okay". And it has stuck with me. Just Saturday evening musings what quotes help you get through! Another one is "Not my monkeys... not my circus" when at work 🙈 x

The meanest worm will turn when trodden on.

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 25/05/2019 21:48

I have quite a few that mean a lot (although quite a few have been written already):

When you're going through hell, keep going (Churchill)

Not my circus, not my monkeys

This too shall pass

When someone shows you who they are, believe them (Maya Angelou)

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts (Winston Churchill)

Ships in the harbour are safe, but that's not what ships are for

If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life thinking it is stupid

The Invictus poem, especially the last 2 lines - I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul

Comparison is the thief of joy

A bit longer than a quote but it sent a shiver down my spine the first time I read this

“I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.”

Oh these are wonderful! Ive had a little cry at how apt they are. Thankyou those for your kind wishes. I had a wobble today and these words of strength are working wonders. And some have made me laugh! I find it amazing how a few simple words can keep us going even in the darkest of times..

Talk the talk, walk the walk.

Some of my ex colleagues very good at spouting, very poor at actually doing something

I have a few, but one which has stuck with me since I was a teenager is from the film The Crow. “It can’t rain all the time”

I really love it

frasersmummy · 25/05/2019 22:35

Courage is not having the strength to go on.. Its going on when you don't have the strength

This has helped me get out of bed many a morning after losing my dh and being left with a grieving teen

It is what it is, not what it should, not what it could be. It is what it is.

‘Just keep going’ - I have that engraved on a band around my wrist and I find myself glancing at it a lot.

Still I rise.

What other people think of you is none of your business.
