Travel agent has sent us to the most awful place :(

Me and my mum booked what we thought would be a lovely little break in Majorca with my 9 mo dd. Nice hotel right by Palma. However we are actually in Playa de Palma and she failed to tell us that this place is basically owned by Germans. We are the ONLY English here. Went for a walk along the beach and didn’t even hear any Spanish. Nothing but German. Noisy stag dos, very tacky that sort of thing. Now I’ve got nothing against Germans but when I imagined my relaxing holiday to Majorca this is not what I had in mind. Feel mega out of place and awkward!! Just wanted to have a rant about it.

OP posts:

How is it an awful place because it's full of Germans? Why the hell would a travel agent tell you it was popular with Germans?

And does it matter what nationality the other hotel guests are? Do you talk to them much? Just enjoy your holiday as you normally would.

Maybe OP did check the reviews but couldn't read them because they were all in German? Grin

Foreigners abroad! Disgusting.

MitziK · 25/05/2019 16:40

You have a problem with the place being full of Germans?

Have we slipped through a time vortex into 1941?

Get over yourself.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/05/2019 16:42

It’s very German there. Has been for years.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/05/2019 16:42

I quite fancy being 'sent' on holiday, as opposed to researching, choosing and booking my own, as it sounds like it's a present!

What's wrong with Germans, OP?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 25/05/2019 16:43

Why don't you try chatting and getting to know a few of them? I have always found Germans to be thoroughly nice people, very polite and love to have a chance to practise their English!

Delatron · 25/05/2019 16:43

Much rather be surrounded by Germans than Brits! I love it when I go abroad and there are no British!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 25/05/2019 16:43

Highlight of the trip was convincing DH that the actual German for 'flip-flop' is 'flippen floppen

Also the mention the war. Look you’ve made her cry.
I didn’t - it was you. You started it!
No - the Germans did!

MaybeitsMaybelline · 25/05/2019 16:47

Is it a Tui holiday 😂

RainbowWaffles · 25/05/2019 16:49

I feel like I am posting on a website in the early nineties. Mind blown.

BackforGood · 25/05/2019 16:50

I have to agree with everyone else.
Nobody has 'sent' you anywhere.
Plus, unless you go on holiday to make new friends, what does it matter where other people are from ?

Bunnybigears · 25/05/2019 16:52

We went on holiday to Majorca years ago with the hotel allocated on arrival, the other guests were mostly German and we cringed with embarrassment when an Englishncouple there insisted serving sausages to an English person on a Sunday was an insult! We went to Portugal last year to a hotel mainly used by French people, we had the time of our lives and the French reps went out of their way to include us. In conclusion I think you should get over yourself. Presumably there is still sun, sea, sand etc

Upzadaizy · 25/05/2019 16:52

YABU

And a bit xenophobic. If it’s a hotel with a lot of German guests, the breakfast will be really good. And so will the coffee.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/05/2019 16:53

I went to Majorca many years ago, probably 25years now. Stayed in a small inland town called Orient. The hotel there was full of German people too (although no stag parties). I had no issue with it (might have if there had been a stag party, fair enough).
Germans like Majorca.

lovelylondonsky · 25/05/2019 16:57

I can't believe anybody who is capable of using the internet would still use a travel agent (possible exception maybe if you were going on a specialist trip and used a specialist agent) but not for Majorca!

prampushingdownthehighst · 25/05/2019 16:57

Met some absolutely fabulous Germans in France years ago.
They made the holiday to be honest!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/05/2019 16:57

@Upzadaizy
My DH always raves about English breakfasts whenever he's there ....

Live and learn!
I went to a very British resort few weeks ago. it was nice... but I go abroad for a change & lots of Germans would have been a bigger change.

Embrace it.

magicBrenda · 25/05/2019 17:05

Well I’m going to buck the trend of posts..

Can’t stand stag parties.

Always found Germans abrupt and stand offish.

Went to a hotel that has lots of Russian people and found they were rude to the staff and smoked like chimneys.

Went to Mexico and couldn’t stand the loud Americans, the more they drank the more they got louder.
