I’m embarrassed at DP in his cycling Lycra

I started work at 8 today (I’m a cleaner) but forgot my lunch.
DP who was at home today offered to cycle it to me.
As soon as I saw him I ushered him away - 16 1/2 stone squeezed into a Lycra top & shorts (he only cycled 2 miles) everything bulging & not in a pleasant way 😂
I know not many look good in Lycra but really ??

He needs to get a job.

'Just wondering if you live in Llanddewi Brefi OP? I think I may have seen your ‘husband’ in the pub?'

@aquamarine ..... it might be best to look up the difference between pedal and peddle before you tell people to peddle their arse haha.

Take a photo of him in his Lycra and put a print of it on your fridge or somewhere he can can see it.

BuildBuildings · 24/05/2019 06:27

When I lived in London I cycled every day. I wore whatever I was wearing that day. It seems its normally men of a certain age decked out in lycra as if they're doing the tour. Bur probably are cycling less than 5 mils.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 24/05/2019 06:32

You obviously loathe and disrespect him about his joblessness, don’t make out this is about his choice of sporting attire.

Taken in isolation your OP is terribly cruel and as the old trope goes you would never get away with that if you were a man chatting about his wife, never.

daisychain01 · 24/05/2019 06:40

Yup that's right great advice. Completely fat shame someone, degrade them and make them feel like shit. Great way to resolve a relationship problem, not.

Why would you do something so dickish?

cakeandchampagne · 24/05/2019 19:19

I thought he showed confidence by wearing the authentic bike gear he enjoyed wearing, despite not being the typical build.
Any size, any type clothing- wear what you like. And he did.

maggienolia · 24/05/2019 20:07

Maybe this would be preferable if the Lycra is a problem. ...

sonjadog · 24/05/2019 20:14

Why would she want to take a photo of him in lycra and put it on the fridge?

Would that be if she wanted to be pointedly nasty to him and make him feel horrible about himself, or is there some other reason for doing that?

teyem · 24/05/2019 20:32

Not one helmet amongst them Maggie!

SoupDragon · 25/05/2019 07:33

Qweenbee · 25/05/2019 07:41

Why dd you have to get the shopping?

floraloctopus · 25/05/2019 07:55

Some cyclists look great in Lycra, sometimes it's the pay off for being stuck behind them on country lanes Wink

LolaSmiles · 25/05/2019 08:04

How horrible.

Let's imagine another thread:
This is about my DW. She enjoys running and going to the gym but it's so embarassing. She's wearing lycra running leggings but after 3 children and the big 4-0 she really shouldn't be wearing things that are so tight. They cling to her thighs in all the wrong ways and when one of my mates said he saw her I was mortified.

Replies from other men:
I know, right. It's totally possible to run in jeans or harem pants or any other item of clothing that doesn't cling to every wobble. There's a women's running group near me and they'd look better naked than in their running tights
I feel your pain bro. The problem is that these women think that buying some expensive trainers and wearing the costume makes them look the part, but get real they're not exactly race material. You're lucky if they do one lap of the park.

Commenting on how anyone looks whilst doing health and fitness activities is a nasty and dickish move.

Bedsidedrawer · 25/05/2019 08:07

You sound like a bitch tbh
Maybe he is comfy in his lycra which encourages him to cycle and get fitter rather than take the car.
I have a real distrust of people who look down their noses at others who aren't supermodel figures but want to wear the correct gear for the sport.

user123454321 · 25/05/2019 08:09

Has op name changed?

DH is a cyclist and very good at it too. However he still has a cyclist belly when in lycra.

NerrSnerr · 25/05/2019 08:13

Wearing Lycra while doing it is not a necessity and from what you describe, is not pleasant for those around him! I'd be worried that he might get skin irritation if the Lycra isn't breathable.

Can you imagine if a man asked a women to change her clothes as they may not be 'pleasant for those around them'? I'm sure as a grown man he can make choices regarding clothes and skin irritation.

If the OP has relationship problems then they need to be sorted but that doesn't make it right to mock someone for what they wear.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/05/2019 08:19

My DH cycles to work in the summer. He wears cycling shorts and a loose mountain biking top, which is a better look for him than a tight jersey. Carries his work clothes. However, when he started he used to just wear his usual shoes and socks. So lycra plus black socks and black lace ups. Took a lot of persuading to carry the shoes in a rucksack with the rest of his stuff and wear something less.... discordant with the rest of his ensemble.

Ledkr · 25/05/2019 08:19

Op you should have put "light hearted" in your thread title as some people on here need some help with their gsoh 🤔

I'd probably feel the same as you. Do has a pair of saggy old shorts which are his favs and I scowled at him the other day when he was wearing them to my daughters dance competition. So he changed 😂

LolaSmiles · 25/05/2019 08:22

Ledkr
Nothing to do with sense of humour.
It's a thread where a bunch of women think it's fine to ridicule people for what they wear when exercising.

Or if from a man to a group of women exercising 'smile love. It's just a joke. Sure we said your thighs are fat and you look ugly and we don't want to look at you, but chill out chic and take a joke'.
Would the people on this thread be telling women who are ridiculed for their fitness clothing by men to chill out and have a sense of humour?

Grumblepants · 25/05/2019 08:23

My boss used to cycle into work. He'd walk over to say hi when he got in the office and when I turned around I'd see I was eye level with his lycra crotch!
It was a bit weird.

TeaForDad · 25/05/2019 08:50

If my dw thought I looked terrible, she'd tell me and I'd think whether to change or not. Same for her.

The fact he's a useless jobless lump is the issue. Did her a favour bringing lunch? Yeah thanks that's your 10 hours work done

floraloctopus · 25/05/2019 09:01

That's a bit much. You have no idea why he is jobless.
