I’m embarrassed at DP in his cycling Lycra

CompletelyDogTired · 23/05/2019 20:57

I started work at 8 today (I’m a cleaner) but forgot my lunch.
DP who was at home today offered to cycle it to me.
As soon as I saw him I ushered him away - 16 1/2 stone squeezed into a Lycra top & shorts (he only cycled 2 miles) everything bulging & not in a pleasant way 😂
I know not many look good in Lycra but really ??

It sounds like there is more going on than the lycra look. It sounds like the OP is working long hours and likely everything else when she gets home ...whilst her DH sits at home. I may be wrong but it sounds like she works, does the shopping and likely everything else. Him offering to drop off her lunch in his tight lycra outfit is probably tough as he returns home whilst she works long hours

I don't get this, though. I'm a SAHM with two kids in full time school. DH works. If he forgot his lunch and I biked it over to him, is it OK if he felt embarrassed at the way I looked and tried to shoo me off just because I could go back home and have a cup of tea after? Then started a thread about me behind my back on a forum saying he was embarassed about me?
Confused
I'd be like "I was doing you a favour, knobhead, won't bother in future" lol
It's a crap attitude.

SoupDragon · 23/05/2019 22:20

That's a really mean OP. No wonder you've name changed

Leftielefterson · 23/05/2019 22:21

OP he was only trying to do you a favour. To start a thread about his appearance seems quite harsh. I agree Lycra is hard to pull off but who cares what he looks like to others. I had a boyfriend who always wore Lycra cycling and whilst it didn’t exactly accentuate his physique I still found him sexy AF and if anyone had dared mock him I would have defended him tooth and nail.

My 60 something DH also looks great in his lycra & has 'amazing' legs that I'm quite jealous ofHmm

Patroclus · 23/05/2019 22:25

Why do men always need the lycra to go down the bloody road though?

Mishappening · 23/05/2019 22:25

Come one .......... let's have a pic!

NunoGoncalves · 23/05/2019 22:31

I don't really know why anyone wears lycra unless they're actually racing. Bit OTT.

cyclingmad · 23/05/2019 22:39

Typical bashing of cyclists. Seriously what is it anyones business what a cyclist wears. I don't understand it, if there was a thread about gym goers you woud never see any posts about whether they look stupid in their gym clothes.

How horrible to talk about your OH that way especially as he was doing you a favour. Imagine if he said that about you.

And for those who really don't understand why cyclists wear lycra it because

  1. it wicks away sweat really well
  2. prevents chafing especially in your most private parts
  3. material is like a second skin so it won't get caught up in the chain
  4. most cyclist tops (not always pure lycra) has practical pockets on the back, easy to reach for things and they don't drop out

Its just practical for wearing when cycling. I also know some cyclist wear normal clothing, good for them thats their choice but I personally never would because I have experienced chafing and it sucks like hell.

Al2O3 · 23/05/2019 22:39

Just wondering if you live in Llanddewi Brefi OP? I think I may have seen your ‘husband’ in the pub?

BlackPrism · 23/05/2019 22:48

@CheeseInACake Tbf I cycle 2 miles to work in london and I do just wear my normal clothes but could do with wraparounds as buses and cars constantly blow crap in your eyes. It can be dangerous

Eggshellnutmeg · 23/05/2019 22:50

I totally get it OP. It wasn’t de France but he dressed for it? Was the Lycra purple?

Sarcelle · 23/05/2019 22:59

I live in Surrey, surely the home of the MAMIL. All sizes, all togged up. Skinny, fat, all festooned with logos. Great they are trying to get fit but why the macho Bradley Wiggins attire? All the gear, no idea!

Titsywoo · 23/05/2019 23:05

I'd divorce my husband if he started cycling

Itsyersel · 23/05/2019 23:11

Imagine if a man came on here to say his wife was too fat and had squeezed herself into a particular outfit!........

LimeKiwi · 23/05/2019 23:17

I'd divorce my husband if he started cycling

Sad My husband recently taken it up in the past year or so (mid 40s) to try and get healthier. What with that and running he's getting pretty fit. Proud of him, more than me who wants to get fit, would be starting off in the same stage as he did but I lack the motivation and can't get past the "OMG I'm so unfit| stage lol. I find it easier to try then stay at home the next time despite wanting to as it's too hard Blush
daisychain01 · 24/05/2019 04:51

Does anyone, including the OP, know for certain the DH only cycled 2 miles. Maybe he went off after dropping the OPs lunch off and did more cycling.

If my DH had cycled over to drop off my lunch I wouldn't be bitching about him on here, how disloyal is that.

I suspect some resentment has built up rather than it being to do with his leggings.

Backwoodsgirl · 24/05/2019 04:56

Not everyone is suited to Lycra. DH wore it once his ass looked like two raccoons fighting in a sack of corn.

daisychain01 · 24/05/2019 04:58

@cyclingmad I'm with you. I wear Lycra because it's really functional and practical, gives protection against the elements, especially my fleece lined leggings to combat the wind chill, and I would never cycle without padding. I couldn't care less what people's opinion is, and I do cycle considerately, but often don't get the same courtesy by motorists. I give a good margin when I'm driving so cyclists don't feel threatened unlike all the boy racer types who deliberately rev their engines and scream obscenities at me.

People are just jealous and resentful of anyone doing something they can't do, and they lump all cyclists into one category.

Seahorseshoe · 24/05/2019 05:08

I'm a chunka, whenever I see a larger person jogging or cycling I always think "yessss, come on, you can do it!!!!"

Icandothisallday · 24/05/2019 05:17

Jesus wept. I just cant imagine all the laughing along with the OP, if the op was man saying the same about his wife.

And I also bet there would be loads of 'maybe she doesnr work because she is depressed from having such a nasty husband'

And no one would say 'middle ages fat women have no place in lycra'.

OP if you dont like your husband, you dont like him. Probably best leaving him, if this is the point it has got to.

mathanxiety · 24/05/2019 05:23

Did he spend money you earned to buy the ridiculous lycra?

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2019 05:29

Can’t believe all of these responses. I thought it was lighthearted.

I hope your dh is spending a lot of time looking for this job. Looking for a job should be a job in itself if he’s doing it right. And shouldn’t take months and months.

Ivegotthree · 24/05/2019 05:33

I cycle to work and can confirm that about one man in 100 looks good in cycling kit (despite what they appear to think!)

I fancy my DH in a suit but would be horrified at him in cycling gear (which thankfully he does not possess anyway).

Bloomburger · 24/05/2019 05:35

The majority of men look better naked than in Lycra OP, it's just a fact, even DH who is a proper gym bunny. It's just the way it clings to the bits that normally hang 🤭

Durgasarrow · 24/05/2019 05:41

He brought you your lunch.
