Dress with leggings. Is this still or thing or fashion faux pas?

Just wondered. I feel slightly too cold to go out in a dress so thought the leggings might warm me up but, if it's out of fashion, I don't want to look silly.

Oh god faux pas

TransFannyUltrasound · 22/05/2019 21:48

I’ve always been a bit rubbish at fashion.

I say wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Today I wore denim shorts with grey leggings (quite thin material) and long black boots. Got to show me pins a bit without feeling too exposed.

@sideorderofchips I love those! Where are they from? (And are they sharks?)

Possess limbs of such glaring whiteness I may render innocent passers by snow blind without some sort of concealment. In summer I therefore do: linen trews worn with longer dress over them, footless tights or leggings with shorter dresses, occasionally dresses over jeans. Absolutely no idea if any of that is deemed fashionable or not. Care even less. Now at the age of unrepentent wearing of what I like. Grin

They are indeed sharks

How do you know it's not a good look if you've never even been aware of it Confused
Today I have a fitted dress, leggings, walking boots and denim jacket, and I'm fat, and I don't care. Grin

cranstonmanor · 23/05/2019 10:55

I'm fat and I wear dresses and leggings every day in the winter. In the summer I pair my dresses with short cycling type shorts or jersey shorts made especially for this against thigh rub, I don't need leggings for that! Tights work also against thigh rub. So wearing leggings isn't because of that. I wear leggings because they are comfortable and practical and last longer when I cycle everyday (dutchie in a village so cycle everywhere with my fat legs in leggings).

Tigger001 · 23/05/2019 14:44

I meant, I never knew it was know as a "thing" as in a good thing like people thought it was some sort of fashion statement that looked great.

I have only every really seen overweight people wear that particular outfit and assumed it was for practical reason rather than a fashion statement.

And dressing for me isn't about having anyone to impress, it's about me feeling good and about me being happy with how I look, not to impress anyone else. I most definitely don't think people should dress for anyone else except themselves.

FiremanKing · 23/05/2019 15:00

I saw a young woman yesterday wearing a short length, pretty summer dress. She was helping her child ride a bike and as such was bending over a lot. She was also wearing sandals and a pair of leggings which didn’t look thick and protected her modesty.

She looked summery and comfortable.

It’s an every day practical look.

People should dress for the occasion not for what they think they should look like.

Give over

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 23/05/2019 17:58

and assumed it was for practical reason rather than a fashion statement

The practical reason being that I work in a school so I'm on the floor,on the grass,on tiny chairs, crouching, bending, tying shoelaces, running, doing PE etc and I don't want to inadvertently flash anyone. Not because of fatness.

Tigger001 · 24/05/2019 07:10

So for practical reasons non the less.

Tigger001 · 24/05/2019 07:14

What am I supposed to be "giving over" ?

InTheEndgameNow · 24/05/2019 07:18

Where what you like and what makes you feel comfortable.

The people who judge you for your clothes are shallow and vapid individuals who are not worth your time. Don't give them a second thought.

Bluebluered · 24/05/2019 07:19

It is super practical BUT the look has been hijacked by fat people to stop their thighs rubbing together uncomfortably.

Wow. God forbid fat people wanting to wear clothes. What horrible bitchy comment.

Branleuse · 24/05/2019 07:24

Its a standard practical look that means you can wear dresses for longer, and also means that your arse is better covered. How else would you wear leggings? On their own? Surely not?

Moondancer73 · 24/05/2019 07:26

@BlueSkiesLies seriously? Heaven forbid you are even anything but a perfect size 10 😡

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 24/05/2019 07:31

Fat and in leggings. Loving it.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 24/05/2019 07:31

I'm never stylish tho,so maybe I shouldn't comment.Grin

origamiunicorn · 24/05/2019 07:38

Umm all this talk about thighs rubbing if you're fat. My thighs touch and I'm not fat, I just have naturally larger thighs, always have done.

There was a thread about this exact same topic a month or so ago and I posted pics of women off Pinterest with legs under tunics and most people agreed they looked fab.

origamiunicorn · 24/05/2019 07:38

Leggings* Grin

BarkandCheese · 24/05/2019 16:46

The legs rubbing thing just depends on how your body stores fat. I’ve a family member who’s a size 20 with a thigh gap, she’s an apple shape and carries all her weight on her abdomen. I’m the exact opposite, a pear shape with chunky thighs which rub whatever size I am.

Every year around this time someone starts a thread asking for advice to help stop the chub rub, and every year without fail some wag replies “try losing weight” 🙄.

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 24/05/2019 17:28

Men seem to cope fine without leggings, regardless of the weather or, um, their thighs rubbing together.

sweetkitty · 24/05/2019 17:36

I hate tights so wear short dresses/tunics in the summer with flat shoes and in winter with boots. All with leggings rather than tights, tights are uncomfortable, sweaty and itchy, I work with ASN children so need to be comfy and practical.

I didn’t know there was a size limit to fashion, that’s a horrible thing to say, women should wear what they want whether a size 8 or 28!
