What is it 😥.

Please excuse the stretch marks. There's nothing I can do about them.

It's about 1cm tall. And isn't hard. It doesn't hurt much either.

I'm assuming a hernia would be hard and horrifically painful. And bigger?

OP, is your name Ellen Ripley?

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/05/2019 19:40

If it’s a lump that disappears when you press it, probably a hernia. Were you lying down when you took the photo? Hernias tend to disappear when you lie down and you can push them back in place. Incarcerated don’t go back in place. In any case I’d get that checked out ASAP.

StyleOfTheTimes · 21/05/2019 19:41

Could it be an insect bite or sting that’s gone a bit funny?

justforareply · 21/05/2019 19:41

Is that the side of your thigh or abdomen? You said your side?

myhamster · 21/05/2019 19:42

I have had spots like that before, they start as a little tiny black dot, so if I see them I remove them then when they are easy. It will eventually pop if you leave it alone. I would put Sudocrem on it and squeeze it and stab it first

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/05/2019 19:43

No. They can be completely pain free. They can also be painful. Normally when incarcerated. Hernia queen here. Have a massive mesh holding my stomach together from an 8 1/2 inch incision. The incarcerated part hurt shit loads. The other smaller hernias, which had formed and were forming didn’t hurt. Or at least I couldn’t feel them. Dh didn’t have issues with his apart from when doing sport.

FiremanKing · 21/05/2019 19:45

Is it a sebaceous cyst?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 21/05/2019 19:54

Please don't stab or squeeze it - both can spread infection if there is any present. Could be a spot, infected spot, boil or cyst. My late father was a GP and always said that if something does not go away within 10 days, then you need to see a doctor - wait and see for a couple of days and hopefully it will go away!

agnurse · 21/05/2019 19:58

It's red, so I'm thinking it's inflamed or possibly infected. I'd get it looked at it.

My thinking is that it is quite possibly either a boil or an inflamed cyst. (Sometimes cysts will break down and this can cause a local inflammatory response. It's not a true "infection" because there aren't usually any organisms present.)

daisyboocantoo · 21/05/2019 20:02

Put sudocrem on it x

BlueJava · 21/05/2019 20:35

If it's not a nipple and it's appeared suddenly you should get it checked out by a GP.

Likethebattle · 21/05/2019 20:35

I have two of these, go said they were insect bites tray had scarred. They were there for years.

Awesomeo90 · 21/05/2019 20:54

I get these sometimes, always on a stretch mark. They go after a day or so usually. Don't know what exactly they are but I wouldn't worry

ronaldbiliusweasley · 21/05/2019 21:28

Ok my health anxiety is kicking in. What if it's a hernia or an alien...😱

It's on my abdomen at the side.

BastardMozzies · 21/05/2019 21:33

Have you been anywhere forin?
It could be a mango fly maggot.

FiremanKing · 21/05/2019 21:41

@BastardMozzies

Well that’s awfully reassuring for the op!

user1471465525 · 21/05/2019 21:43

I have this on my leg, red brown colour and slightly raised .Gp assured me it is harmless sun spot ,nothing to worry about but obviously you should get checked out to make sure.

nuttynutjob · 21/05/2019 21:45

Ingrown hair (there's a black bit in the middle)

Or sebaceous cyst

sirmione16 · 21/05/2019 21:58

I get quite a few of these. Mine go quite purple and sometimes bleed. Sometimes they don't. Doctor just said they were cysts. My skins atrocious anyway tbf so one more ailment goes over my head

Dippypippy1980 · 21/05/2019 22:17

Go to go.

Possibly keloid scar?

Dippypippy1980 · 21/05/2019 22:32

GP

QueenOfTheEighthKingdom · 21/05/2019 22:42

Looks quite like how the sebaceous cyst I had started.

Fingers crossed for you it's not one of them as I will never forget the pain of having it removed, that was quite something!

ronaldbiliusweasley · 21/05/2019 22:55

Not been anywhere exotic in years.

I really don't get bitten either.

I've had like a boil thing before on outer thigh. But it was like a really aggressive spot.

This is weird as it's just like a big puffed up bit of skin that's really red. With a grey bit in.

I'm not unfamiliar with ingrown hairs and this really doesn't have a head or anything. I also don't have any sort of hair there except downy hair.

Bit worried now. Surely I'd know if it was a hernia. If would hurt and be internal poking outwards?

Haggisfish · 21/05/2019 23:00

Hernias don’t always hurt, no. Go to Gp in morning.
