Just that, is anybody not voting and didn't vote last time?

OP posts:

I always vote. And always cite the women who died so I could vote. But then someone said that women died sonthat I could have the right to choose to vote or not. Which drew me up short. I still always vote but accept people’s right to choose not to.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:00

You don't have a view? You literally don't care whether the NHS exists in the future or whether people with disabilities can eat. Whether abortion is outlawed (if JRM gets his way), or whether, in the future, a fascist government is elected. Happened in Germany.

Or in this case, whether we are in or out of the largest trading bloc in the world, affecting our country for generations?

Blimey.

SunsetBunny · 20/05/2019 23:02

I didn't vote the first time because I didn't ask for a referendum.

So you wanted to maintain the status quo, therefore your position aligns most closely with remain.
Although if you ca

TheFaerieQueene · 20/05/2019 23:03

It says so much about you if you don’t vote. None of what it says is good.

PinkieTuscadero · 20/05/2019 23:04

I manage to have opinions on the tiniest of things. Can't imagine not having a big fat opinion on Brexit.

OhMyDarling · 20/05/2019 23:06

I’m definitely going to vote.
For me, for my kids, for the women that died to give me the opportunity.

Noname99 · 20/05/2019 23:09

Totally agree with you and disagree with the you must vote no matter what. No, just no! I will not vote for “the best of a bad bunch” There is not s single party I doesnt have at least one absolute fundamental policy or belief that I can not ever agree with or sanction so no I will not vote for this abhorrent group of self serving, amoral, hypocritical horrors.

Noname99 · 20/05/2019 23:09

*doesnt = don’t

mingebags · 20/05/2019 23:12

Women died to secure your right to vote. it should be compulsory if you ask me.

You could at least be bothered to go along and spoil your vote as a protest if you're not prepared to at least attempt to make an informed decision as to which party would get your vote.

Anyone who doesn't vote without a very good reason ought to be ashamed of themselves. Not voting is not a badge of honour.

Chocmallows · 20/05/2019 23:13

Definitely voting so I can complain afterwards

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:23

There is not s single party I doesnt have at least one absolute fundamental policy or belief that I can not ever agree with or sanction so no I will not vote for this abhorrent group of self serving, amoral, hypocritical horrors.

I agree. So go, write exactly that on the ballot and they won't think you can't be bothered, they'll think you care and don't like them.

Or write the policies you do agree on the ballot. So that they know!

Peakypolly · 20/05/2019 23:23

Not trivialising here, just genuinely shocked that Azerbaijan and
Belarus are not democracies. I am disappointed by my ignorance.
I will be voting (in fact have organised a proxy vote) on Thursday and have tried to make an informed choice to the best of my abilities.

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:25

What difference does it make if we vote?

17 million voted for leaving the EU

Voting means bugger all. I'm not voting.

Who is there to vote for? No one!

cucumbergin · 20/05/2019 23:26

Not voting when there are actual fascists on the ballot, talking about "putting on khaki and picking up a rifle" - is equivalent to saying you don't give a fuck about BAME lives and safety (and it doesn't matter if you are BAME yourself - shame on you). Just pick anyone who isn't an actual fascist. Even spoiling your ballot is better than nothing.

There is a massive difference between living in a society that is passively hostile (systemic racism) and where we could end up in a few short years time.

pivotagain · 20/05/2019 23:26

This is actually frightening reading some of these comments.

Please understand that absolutely no-one cares if you don't vote.

Votes are all that matters.

If you don't vote you CANNOT complain!!

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:31

So

If
There is nothing and no one you believe in or want to vote for.....?

You make one up?
You choose the lesser of all evils?

What?

Genuinely there is not a single politician I trust or want in power.

I'd vote for me . The others are corrupt fuckwits.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:35

Then spoil your ballot.

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:36

Please
Explain what the point o
Spoiling the paper is! What difference does that make!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:37

http://www.votenone.org.uk/protestvotess_count.html

whatswithtodaytoday · 20/05/2019 23:39

Of course I'm voting.

Politians don't give a shit if people don't vote. It just makes their lives easier and they're answerable to fewer people.

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:39

It's discounted. Spoiling the paper actually means nothing at all. It's not
Counted. It's not some punk ethos protest .

It means nowt.

I'm not wasting time going to the poll. What exactly is the point?
All those who voted in the referendum ....did it achieve anything ?

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:39

Basically if you don't turn out, they assume you are apathetic. If you turn out and spoil, you vote is available and active, you just don't agree with any of them. Which means your vote is worth something.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:39

Spoiled ballots are counted.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 23:40

And if you really think you know better (likely you might considering the field of candidates) form a party. Or organize. Or do something else.

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:41

So what does a spoiled ballot paper actually achieve please ?
