Anybody else not voting again?

Just that, is anybody not voting and didn't vote last time?

OP posts:
SCST01 · 20/05/2019 21:40

I think everyone ought to vote. It's important to take an interest in the way that your country is run.

Voldethought · 20/05/2019 21:41

I wouldn't let a random stranger decide what I eat, watch, wear or the music I listen to, so why would I let them decide my future?

Please vote.

sleepyhead · 20/05/2019 21:41

I'm looking at a photo of my great grandmother who didn't get to vote until she was well into her 40s.

She was clever, well informed, interested in politics and active in her community but as a working class woman was last in line when it came to enfranchisement.

So fuck yeah, I have always voted and always will.

Notnownotneverever · 20/05/2019 21:44

For the first time ever I am probably not voting. But only because I genuinely am completely lost for who stands for what and who to vote for. I actually don’t have a single clue which will probably prevent me from voting this time around.

Winebottle · 20/05/2019 21:47

I have thought about not voting but I haven't quite lost all faith in the political system yet.

Women died for the right to vote, they didn't die for the oblige women to. It is about having the choice.

I'm starting to think that complaining doesn't get us anywhere anyway and the politicians will do what they want regardless of how we vote. In that case, I would rather not give them the legitimacy of being elected.

PanamaPattie · 20/05/2019 21:52

I'm not voting in Thursday's election. I have no idea who to vote for.

ssd · 20/05/2019 21:55

Ridiculous position to say you won't be voting again, like its a badge of honour.
I'd be embarrassed to admit I was so dumb.

chocolateworshipper · 20/05/2019 21:57

Damn right I'm voting. No party is perfect, but I'm voting for a party whose current MEP has campaigned hard for several things that are important to me.

wizzler · 20/05/2019 21:57

I will vote as a point of principle... but imho they are all a shambles. May do as a pp suggests , spoil my paper to make a point.. but no one will care!

SunsetBunny · 20/05/2019 21:58

If you’ve no idea who to vote for, just pick one of the parties that aligns with your view on Brexit, because that is all it is about this time round IMO.

exLtEveDallas · 20/05/2019 22:00

There is no-one for me to vote for. So it's a choice of no vote or a spoiled vote for me.

As I only live 50m from my polling station it will be a spoiled vote - even I'm not that lazy! But I have to say, if it was at all awkward for me to get to a polling station I probably wouldn't put myself out. It all seems like a complete waste of time these days...

Unescorted · 20/05/2019 22:02

Even if you feel you can't vote for one of the options on the ballot pleases take the time to go to the polling station just to spoil your ballot.

Tell the candidates they are not representing your views and explain what it is they are missing and what it would take to get your vote.

By not voting it is taken as apathy - taking your time to spoil your ballot lets candidates know you are angry.

I also ask you to make sure the vote you cast if any is the one that represents your beliefs - not the beliefs of the paper you read or the paper your parent's read when you were a child. Your opinion is important so make it count and make sure it is the one you truly believe in. If someone is telling you what you ought to think ask why they are spending so much money trying to convince you that is the right thing to think. Usually the more money the less palatable.

Lexilooo · 20/05/2019 22:02

The only message not voting sends is one of apathy.

If what you want to say to government is "I don't give a shit do whatever you want" then go ahead and don't vote. Otherwise turn out and either vote for the least worst candidate or spoil your ballot.

WrongKindOfFace · 20/05/2019 22:03

I will be voting. As a pp said, if you’re not sure who to vote for then vote for the party whose views align with yours on brexit.

The results (and turnout) will be interesting.

Tavannach · 20/05/2019 22:03

My vote will be counted as spoilt and I will have made my silent protest.

But it won't be a silent protest because your vote will be counted. It will be a protest.

For the first time ever I am probably not voting. But only because I genuinely am completely lost for who stands for what and who to vote for. I actually don’t have a single clue which will probably prevent me from voting this time around.

Each of the contenders has a website which will outline its policies.

As we may well be leaving the EU very soon this election is seen as essentially a vote about whether or not we want to stay in the EU. If you want to leave, one of Conservative or Brexit and others is the way to go. If you want to stay one of Lib Dem, Green, Change UK and others is the way to go. If you don't have a clue Labour is the way to go.

onalongsabbatical · 20/05/2019 22:04

If I wasn't lying in bed ill and feeling like shit I'd muster some arguments in favour of my stance on compulsory voting. But as I really can't right now I'm posting this for anyone who'd like to understand better both some of the implications of mandatory voting and how it is/can be done. www.psa.ac.uk/insight-plus/beyond-turnout-consequences-compulsory-voting

LadyGAgain · 20/05/2019 22:09

Completely disagree @MyNewBearTotoro . Women fought so hard for us to get the vote. We should vote.

AudacityOfHope · 20/05/2019 22:15

By not voting you send a message that says the electorate is so apathetic, that you politicians can now do whatever the fuck you like.

See Brexit, Farage, and Trump.

Great if you're cool with that, but seeing as you are part of a wider society, why not fucking join in like a grown up and try to mitigate the shite the rest of us are all living through.

The selfishness is beyond me, really Angry

MightyAtlantic · 20/05/2019 22:16

I always vote. Please use your vote, it's important.

BrokenWing · 20/05/2019 22:19

Any person who doesnt make the effort to vote or spoil their paper is basically a lazy arse. There is even an option for a postal vote available if you can't be bothered or are too busy to go and vote.

They have no right to complain about the state of the country if they can't do one simple thing to make their opinion known. You cannot justify to anyone other than similar lazy arses that not voting is an opinion.

SunsetBunny · 20/05/2019 22:25

Started off thinking this was going to be quite a pointless vote but given where we are, I now actually think this could be one of the most important votes we’ve ever had.

The outcome of this will be used to determine the British people’s views on Brexit so please tell them! Don’t let the vote be dominated by one side!

SunsetBunny · 20/05/2019 22:26

Let’s make it one of the biggest turn outs in history!

magimedi · 20/05/2019 22:36

You are lucky to live in both a time & a place that gives you a vote.

Please use it .

RomanyQueen1 · 20/05/2019 22:53

I don't have a view though, so voting for my Brexit view can't happen.
I didn't vote the first time because I didn't ask for a referendum.
I also think women died for our right to vote, it's a choice, not a summons.

OP posts:
Tavannach · 20/05/2019 22:56

it's a choice, not a summons.

It's neither. It's a responsibility.
