Is there anyone who holds an incorrect belief about you, which you can never put right?

Partly inspired by the revenge thread, is there anything in your past that people believe about you which isn't true, and which you'd like to put right? Or something inaccurate that was said which you've never had a chance to correct?

Mine is from a 4 year relationship I had in my early 20s. We bought a house together but weren't married, and unfortunately things didn't work out.

To that guy I'd like to say, "You thought I was cheating on you, but I wasn't - I had binge eating disorder and when you mentioned in a row after we split that you had noticed the extra plates and bowls in the washing up, and that I must've thought you were stupid, I thought you were referring to my dysfunctional eating. That's why I didnt defend myself. But I wasn't having men round, I was just stuffing my face on my own and I was mortified when I thought you knew!"

I have no idea why this still niggles at me 20 years later, I'd just rather he went to his grave knowing I wasn't a cheating trollop, just a greedy bastard.

Are there any wrongs you'd like to put right (reasonably lighthearted)?

@FiremanKing I know, such a random coincidence!

My mother thinks we’re poor.

Our household income is £220k, we’re both on over £100k each. We have a small house in the centre of a ridiculously expensive city (a nice but small three-bed terrace costs c. £900k here). Generally have nice cars and holidays etc. but not flash. My mother thinks I’m impoverished. I think it’s because she doesn’t understand my job so thinks I’m in a minimum wage office job.

I saw her at the weekend and she slipped me £100 to treat myself. Thanks mum!

By comparison, my SAHM sister with 6 children, husband working part-time in a failing hobby business and the bank breathing down their neck to begin repossession of their large house is doing very well for herself, according to mum.

@Kernobhead have you seriously still not realised that was a ruse by your boss to unofficially get you the afternoon off work on your birthday?! Hope you did something nice!

This thread is making my blood boil.

No one ever believed that after we had broken up I really did just want to be friends with an ex. We werent together very long and he was good company.

Ooh another one that still gives me rage even though it was 20 years ago. It's pretty outing but meh.

When I was at secondary school I was particularly noted because I was ~ahem~ quite busty. One day someone cut my head out from a photo and stuck it onto a page 3 model body, scanned it and printed loads out in colour before handing them out across the school.

Photoshop wasn't really a thing in those days and I have to say (horrendous misogyny, defamation and effectively bullying aside) it was pretty well executed and looked real.

As well as everybody at school thinking I was some kind of wannabe glamour model someone shoved a load of these print outs into my blazer pocket without my knowledge. When I got home my dad knocked my blazer off the back of a chair and they fell out. No matter how much I've argued or tried to convince my dad over the years, he genuinely thinks his 15 year old daughter posed for that picture. And what's even worse he didn't get cross! We're low contact now as he's turned out to be a pretty horrid human being but at 15 he was my idol.

The whole thing was horrid and looking back I'm absolutely shocked the school didn't step in or my parents. I'm also appalled I just tried to laugh it off as being funny. If anything like this happened to my daughters I would be straight down to the school.
