Do you have an alibi for 10pm last night?

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2019 14:04

I'm watching Midsomer Murders and they're looking hard at a suspect who has no alibi for 10pm the night before.

Thing is... Surely not having an alibi isn't suspicious? I live on my own so a lot of the time my alibi is my cat.. Would you have an alibi, or how would you prove "I was at home"?

I think I watch too much crime drama Grin

This thought has previously occurred to me, OP - I frequently don't see or speak to anyone for several days at a time. I'm a bent copper's dream suspect Grin

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2019 14:07

Exactly! Grin

Phone location could prove where you were. Or rather where your phone was, at a push.

My camera doorbell would show if I had moved my car / gone out, but wouldn't show me leaving via the back door.

ChocolateTea · 18/05/2019 14:08

Eeek I was in bed, telling the cats to stop mioawing and my two kids were asleep. I'd be stuffed.

wafflyversatile · 18/05/2019 14:08

I might be able to prove I was at home at 9.30pm through phone records and I was witnessed asleep on the sofa at approximately 12.30am. Can you prove I had enough time to commit the murder in that time?

Unsolvedtheory · 18/05/2019 14:08

If you have location switched on, your phone might prove where you were?

QueenofLouisiana · 18/05/2019 14:08

Yes, 2 as we all watched The Last Leg together. I also sent a photo from my phone as the opening credits were on do my location could be checked with that! It was a very specific photo to a very specific friend so not likely to be sent randomly.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/05/2019 14:09

Only DH.... The kids were asleep. Often when DH is out I go to bed early with a glass of wine and a book so don't even have a digital footprint.

listsandbudgets · 18/05/2019 14:09

I sent an email at 10.01pm. Investigation would probably confirm IP address I sent it from

I also had the cat with me but do was asleep upstairs... does the cat count?

DannyWallace · 18/05/2019 14:09

I wonder this quite often too.
My husband works away sometimes, and before I had DD I would literally spend my time outside of work with my dogs!
99% of my evenings were at home just with them.
Also, I have my location on my phone turned off....

ShesABelter · 18/05/2019 14:10

Yeah I would usually always have one. I'm never ever alone at ten pm. Always either with the kids and dh or out with friends/family if not at home. I am alone in work or during the day but never at ten.

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2019 14:10

But - HYPOTHETICALLY IN CASE OF LURKING POLICE OFFICERS Grin - If I was going to kill someone I wouldn't take my phone! Plus when I'm home my location is usually off Shock

Are you serious wafflyversatile? 3 hours? You could have committed a whole Midsomer series worth of murders in that time!

I was in bed watching Netflix at 10pm last night. Would that be provable?

TheFairyCaravan · 18/05/2019 14:11

Me and DH were watching the hedgehog, wandering about the garden, from our bedroom window.

Friday nights are fun in our house!

Mississippilessly · 18/05/2019 14:11

Yes my son could tell them I was getting him to sleep.
He's 8 months.
Fuck.

BigcatLittlecat · 18/05/2019 14:14

I was asleep in bed with the cats! DH asleep in sofa! I don't even think the cats would give me an alibi as they are too contrary and they may have to put a little effort into something! So no!

TakenForSlanted · 18/05/2019 14:14

Not only provable but also spoofable. Grin

I'm pathologically non-violent, but I'm also in tech and hence have thought in some detail about how I'd go about faking a digital alibi. Ironically, I probably did so alone at home one evening.

ohtheholidays · 18/05/2019 14:14

I was in the frontroom on the phone to my DD15 and watching tv with my oldest DS23 and the 3 Ddogs so I'd be alright.

If I was out though and the only proof I'd have was a phone I'd be doomed,I have no idea where my mobile is and I hadn't used it for ages before I missplaced it.

Temporaryanonymity · 18/05/2019 14:14

Well, I was driving home on the motorway so possibly there might be cameras that picked up my reg plate. I think I would probably ask them to prove that I was at the scene of the crime rather than me prove I wasn't.

Frangipane · 18/05/2019 14:17

Cats seem to feature a lot in these alibis. My 3 were noticeable by their absence last night so I can't even rely on them.

OTOH, if paw prints were found at the scene of the crime, I may know the culprits....

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2019 14:18

Actually I think my cat was out last night Confused

10pm UK time? That would be 2pm my time so I had just reached home after leaving work. Dashcam footage could confirm my arrival and that I didn’t leave again at least by car, on foot is a possibility though. I was then alone (apart from assorted cats inside and out) doing laundry and other chores until DH came home at 5pm. Do you think they’d take an empty laundry basket and sparkling countertops into consideration?

MsAwesomeDragon · 18/05/2019 14:19

I was on the sofa. DH saw me, I was snoring apparently i don't think I was even asleep

The dds were also home, but in their bedrooms. Dd1 could confirm I was home at midnight as we met at the bathroom door on my way to bed.
I almost always have an alibi, it's DH. We don't tend to go out very often, so we spend our evenings during together in the living room.

SystolicSyster · 18/05/2019 14:19

Nope. DH went to bed before 10 pm and he's a sound sleeper, and I know he had his earphones on in bed. I could easily have gone out and got up to all sorts. Not even a handy CCTV nearby that could prove I stayed in.

Frangipane · 18/05/2019 14:20

I think being then other side of the Atlantic might save you speck!
