Are there any conspiracy theories that you just think could have an element of truth?

I love all things conspiracy theory - from a psychological/social point of view it's interesting to see what makes people fearful or pessimistic.

But I often do see some conspiracy theories a bit like Urban legends in that they could be an exaggerated truth.

Are there any conspiracy theories or rumours that you just think 'maybe...' or even ones you're completely sold on.

The world is a strange place - I’ll give you that. A decade ago all these paedo rings would have seemed highly far fetched.

However - why on earth would anyone want to kill Diana.

Also not all opinions are made equal - anyone can spout an opinion - not all are well considered.

FunInTheSun2019 · 20/05/2019 13:51

Oh dear 🤦‍♀️😂

bigKiteFlying · 20/05/2019 13:56

Only one I think is a conspiracy - with actual government involvement is JFK. I've no idea what happened but so many people behaved so oddly in aftermath. It could just be they panicked did everything wrong and were covering that up - but something went on.

Other ones like Dr David Kelly and the M15 guy in holder I could easily believe there was more too - but equally it could see that being an individual getting away with murder and there just not being enough evidence left around to prove that.

Cure for cancer CTs: there are hundreds of them and they are all bullshit.

Current chemo costs a bomb BUT it doesn't last very long. These mysterious proteins (or radio frequencies is another one that features) would be cheaper BUT you would be able to give them to wealthy, healthy patients for a very long time. You could sell them to practically everyone in the world who had a moment of being "worried well"

Quite apart from all the complicated "it doesn't work like that" explanations which absolutely also apply here, a side effect free cure for cancer would bring its discoverers enormous wealth and glittering prizes beyond the dreams of avarice. That would completely outweigh anything that chemo, CAR-T, PD1 inhibitors etc will ever make anyone.

AnyoneButAnton · 20/05/2019 14:09

The pharmaceutical industry has done some very dodgy things over the years, and still has a tendency to bury negative results and even side effects in pursuit of cash. But it does it in consistent ways and for understandable motives. Burying a secret cure for cancer is a completely different matter.

I love conspiracy theories.

Not wishing to say too much as it will be outing but a family member used to work for the US AirForce.

MH370 - planes don't just fall out of the sky and disappear off the face of the earth. The 'debris' found is also questionable

bebeboeuf · 20/05/2019 14:20

Mh370 fascinates me in a morbid sense as I want to know what happened to it.
I’ve not actually heard any conspiracy relating to it though.

What’s the motive?

deplorabelle · 20/05/2019 14:29

Absolutely AnyonebutAnton

IrmaFayLear · 20/05/2019 16:30

It's funny how so many people "know" someone in the know . There must be thousands of people "in the know" about all these conspiracies yet they all keep their mouths shut Hmm .

I read an interesting piece on trying to argue with a conspiracy theorist. It's impossible because their default position is that you have been duped. All evidence is fabricated. Everything comes down to shady Big Business.

I would be interested to know how those who stand by Sandy Hook etc being all made up came to this position and how they defend it.

calpoppincalpol · 20/05/2019 16:54

@Alicesweewonders a few years ago I watched a movie about a secluded girls school in a woodland where they danced for paying guests. Abuse was never mentioned but it was insinuated. I always wondered if this sort of thing could possibly exist in reality.

VoteJadot · 20/05/2019 17:03

Fucksake they really should teach critical media analysis in schools. I've just looked at Ian R Crane's website. He's an ex oilfield exec AND a top specialist in cutting-edge oncology research AND an expert on the French legal system? Cmon he's a crank with his bee in his bonnet.

LoveLifeBeHappy · 20/05/2019 17:36

There is a lot of 911 which simply isn't true. Those buildings were designed for aircraft impact. The way they fell looked like a demolition.

I think the truth will eventually come out in about 20/30 years.

jane251 · 20/05/2019 17:40

The only interesting thing about conspiracy theories is why people find comfort in believing in them.A friend of mine-who was pretty nuts-used to believe that the BBC were sending out messages on their website in code to M15 agents .I asked him why they didn't just phone MI5-he didn't have any convincing answers.

LoveLifeBeHappy · 20/05/2019 17:42

@bigKiteFlying I watched a documentary about this yesterday. Good timing eh?

According to a lot of sources he was assassinated because he was going to expose the truth about NASA and Roswell. He was not authorised to have that information..

LoveLifeBeHappy · 20/05/2019 17:43

The best conspiracies are the ones that actually came true..

pudding21 · 20/05/2019 17:43

I love a good conspiracy theory and have spent hours researching the death of Kurt Cobain for example.

Recently I found out I have a mutated MTHFR, which means I cannot methylate folic acid and can lead to whole shit storm of problems including raised risk of adhd, autism, certain cancer, thyroid issues, heart disease, but can also cause issues with mental health etc. Anyway turns out this gene has a 20-40% mutation in the general population. This is a growing area of research and the science is proved. Soon the UK government want to put folic acid in all our flour and bread. For 20-40% of the population this can cause massive problems and is essentially toxic. For women at risk of neural tube defects who have the gene could make things much much worse. Its management although complex to get right in some people is a very simple and affordable supplement and lifestyle changes.

Illness+ big pharma=mega bucks and conspiracies galore. I am quite convinced from what I have read at a higher level it is known, and they will continue with it anyway.

Don't get me started on Monsanto.

endofthelinefinally · 20/05/2019 17:53

I agree about the Dando theory and I said as much at the time she was killed. It was clearly a professional hit.
It will never be solved because the people investigating already know the full story.

ToftyAC · 20/05/2019 17:54

That it wasn’t the Titanic that sank. It was her sister ship 🚢 and was done as an insurance job

Turnitaroundagain · 20/05/2019 17:54

I think there’s more truth out their than in the mainstream news which is 99% fake. But dinosaurs and the moon not being real is a bit of a shocker I find those two hard to get my head around....

DarlingNikita · 20/05/2019 17:54

Oh, stop being so mysterious about Jill Dando and just tell us the theory on here!

Like loads of others here, I don't think for a second David Kelley killed himself.

In My Opinion

MentalMaggie · 20/05/2019 18:01

I can categorically tell you 100% that the JILL Dando theory regarding paedophiles is 100% incorrect. That’s all I’m saying🤐
