How many fillings do you have and how old are you?

My parents never took me to the dentist 😩 I started going at 18. I’m now 28 and I have a feeling I’m going to need a lot of fillings. Iv had one so far but I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist! I desperately need braces too!

How many do you have?

Loads. I think I have to be a contender for winning this.

I had to have 8 teeth removed when I was little, small jaw. 2 top left, 2 top right, 2 bottom left, 2 bottom right. To make room.

Same 8 teeth removed when the big ones came through.

My top teeth. I have had the front 4 replaced with impants as chemo killed them.

I have 6 actual teeth on my top jaw and 4 implants.
XXXIIIIXXX

  • X= teeth (all have had fillings/been rebuilt), I = Implant

On my bottom jaw I have 11 teeth
XXXOOOOOXXX

  • X = Teeth that have had fillings/been rebuilt
  • O = Teeth that have no fillings

After the chemo when I had to have the implants I had all the old fillings replaced with white, and some teeth needed rebuilding.

Now I have a really nice set of teeth.

It's not lack of dental hygiene. I've always brushed and flossed twice a day and gone to the dentist regularly. Despite my user name I don't eat chocolate, or any sweet things at all actually, or drink fizzy pop. I drink water and always have.

Shit teeth just run in my family. My dad and uncle have had to have loads of work over the years, and my brother had to have all of his out and full false teeth at 22.

None. Mid thirties.

CoffeeChocs · 18/05/2019 15:55

Oh and I'm 39.

DH is 39 and has no fillings at all.

Coffeechocs, first so sorry about needing chemo and then implants. Could I ask you how painful/uncomfortable they were? I have 4 crowns and 2 gaps at the back of my teeth and (if I ever find the money!) would seriously love implants. I don’t enjoy the dentist though (!) and wondering if I can cope! How did you find it? Sorry if it’s a stupid question as I imagine it was the least you had to worry about.

Depends how you eat, how well and regularly you brush your teeth and your teeth themselves overall wear and tear.

I’m mid 20’s and over the years I’ve had 5 did have 6 but the tooth got pulled. All mainly on my molars because they just erode so quick, really I should probably brush after sugary foods and drinks but I do what everyone else does and do them twice a day. I usually do them three times if I’ve eaten something after brushing late at night but other than that I don’t forget or do anything different than the next person.

My partner has about the same amount after he didn’t go for years until his tooth broke and they decided to fix his tooth and sort the rest of his teeth out but in his teens he barely brushed his teeth 🤢 and ate so much sugary crap so really it’s no wonder. He gets a nudge off me if he forgets!

3 fillings and a crown. I'm 26.

Receding gums also from 7 years of smoking and only drinking pop and avoiding the dentist at all costs! Now have a lovley dentist, stopped smoking 2 years ago and my teeth and gums are in much better condition

CoffeeChocs · 18/05/2019 16:07

It's fine. The worst bit for me is the needles at the start (I am severely needle phobic). Once the jaw is numb I tend to doze. My dentist said having teeth out is worse. She is right, the sounds were worse. Take headphones and put some music on. The dentist says to raise one hand if there's any problem so hearing what they say makes no difference.

Honestly my teeth look so nice now, I'm happy.

Late twenties, think I’ve got about five or six. My front tooth was chipped eating ice during pregnancy (craving!) so has a white filling. The majority of my back teeth have silver fillings from childhood.

TeaLover2468 · 18/05/2019 16:15

I'm mid 20's and I think every tooth has a filling, 1 extraction and 3 crowns. Had weak teeth as a child and an awful dentist but as a PP whilst on chemotherapy they literally all crumbled, it really worries me that by 40 il probably have dentures as I just cant afford implants/crowns. Upsetting though as people tend to assume because I'm young with bad teeth I just never brushed them which isn't the case

MeadowHay · 18/05/2019 16:19

I'm 25. I got an impacted wisdom tooth extracted when I was 19 and a tiny filling next to it, don't think that was my fault as dentist said it's common because you can't brush properly in the tiny gap. Then I had one in August age 24 which was a fair size but not massive one one of my back-ish top tweth teeth, and I'm getting another similar one but on the left next week age 25. I'm really upset about these as my oral hygiene is really good but my diet in terms of sugar is bad so I guess I'm not doing enough to compensate for it. I had HG during pregnancy but that didn't have significant effects as the dentist told me I needed those two fillings when I was just about pregnant, before the HG started but said to delay them until after the baby was born. I'm getting this second one pretty late tbh because DD is 11 months now! Dreading it as I have an established problem where I need tons of local anaesthetic and then still feel them albeit without pain once I've had enough. Plus I have anxiety exacerbated in healthcare settings since my traumatic birth. But my new dentist is lovely. Not sure whether to go for white or not. I get free treatment with the amalgam but I do have a cashback plan with work so could get cashback for the white. I felt pressurised into having the amalgam for the last one from my previous dentist and she said it wouldn't be very visible and it's not super visible but more visible than I'm comfortable with, I cried so much when I got home and saw it :( so might go for white for this next one but then I've heard the white ones don't last as long?

@MummyOfTwo92 Try this www.amazon.co.uk/Gengigel-Clinically-Proven-Relief-Healing/dp/B002K5SWA8/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 3 times a day. It's brilliant.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 18/05/2019 16:25

None, 34.

elaine26 · 18/05/2019 16:51

I have 1 white one and I'm 41 ad terrified of the dentist even though he's lovely and understanding. He always says "do you want to come in?" and I always say "no" then apologise 😂
